Chapter 32 Mega Event

" Yeah, it's tonight. I think around seven or eight. Yeah! I will be back as soon as it's done. Don't forget your medicines. Alright, bye bye! ”

Phill hung up with a smile on his face.

" Girlfriend? ” Percy asked he popped up from th back.

" Good Lord, Percy, you scared me! " Phill hurriedly put his phone back in his pocket.

" Sorry! I was just curious. Never saw you smiling like an idiot all by yourself before! ” He chirped in lifting both his hands as if surrendering.

Phill tried to ignore him as they both walked back towards the main event.

Phill was worried about Lea.

She had been working over time and he knew that being an introvert she didn't interact well with people.

He wanted to rush back to her but it was necessary that he waited.

Lea hung up on the other end, cleaning up a little, taking a good shower and then making herself a big bowl of porridge as she comfortably snuggled in the couch before switching on the television.

She could tell right away how grand Mercy's debut was going to be.

Lea lounged on her couch, spooning up her porridge as she flipped on the TV. The even way every where.

The screen lit up with glitter and glamour,Mercy's debut ceremony was off the charts, and the cameras didn't hold back on capturing every bit of the action.

Celebrities strutted down the red carpet like peacocks on parade, each outfit more outrageous than the last. There was Mona, decked out in a gown that looked like it was made of actual clouds, floating around like she owned the sky. And then there was Jack, sporting a suit covered in blinking LED lights, turning heads and causing a mini blackout every time he winked.

The host, a notorious joker, cracked jokes faster than a peanut vendor at a baseball game, keeping the crowd in stitches. Even the paparazzi were getting in on the action, snapping photos like their lives depended on it, elbows flying and cameras flashing like fireworks on the Fourth of July.

Lea knew those faces because of Jake. She used to watch him just like she was watching Mercy take the stage.

The ceremony kicked off after a lengthy sermon by their mother, Mrs.Rodgers.

Lea could help but feel that she looked very similar to both Phill and Jake.

The similarly was uncanny and it didn't go unnoticed by her.

The stage transformed into a spectacle straight out of a sci-fi movie. Laser lights danced across the audience, making everyone feel like they were in a disco from the future. And when Mercy finally took the stage, the crowd erupted into cheers that could probably be heard from space.

The event focused extensively on Mercy and the show she was staring in got completely over shadowed.

Lea felt a sting of jealousy thinking about the partiality of the world.

How hard Jake had to work to get to where he was ans how easy it was for Mercy to climb up that ladder in a day.

Finally Mercy took the stage.

The audience went absolutely silent as her soulful voice mesmerized all.

She was gifted, there was no doubt.

Lea found her own feet tapping to the rhythm.

Finally when she was done, it was time for her producer and director to take the stage.

Lea was about to turn the tv off when her eyes caught a very unexpected sight.

She saw Lea hurriedly run down the stairs.

She saw Phill and other members of her family waiting for her but she ran in the other direction as the camera focus on her.

And then Lea saw Jake.

Mercy ran into his arms and hugged him, smiling and nodded while the shook their hands.

Jake looked happy as he talked with her.

Lea focus on Mercy's lips.

" I am so glad that you made it! "

Lea read her lips.

" I wasn't honestly excepting this! "

She read further as Mercy beamed.

Then the camera zoomed out and focused back of the stage.

Lea switched off the tv and left the bowl of porridge on the table.

Suddenly she wasn't hungry anymore.

It felt good to see Jake smiling.

But it stung to know that he wasn't as miserable as she was. It was a good news but it was also sad.

Lea stormed out of her apartment, her mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. She needed to clear her head, to escape the suffocating weight of jealousy and disappointment that had settled over her like a heavy fog once again.

She headed straight for her car, rolling down the windows, hitting the accelerator, letting the cool night air calm her down.

The wind whipped through her hair, offering a temporary reprieve from the turmoil within. But just as she was starting to feel a semblance of peace, a sudden downpour caught her off guard.

Raindrops pelted down relentlessly, soaking her to the bone within seconds because she refused to close the windows.

"Great, just what I needed," Lea muttered to herself, squinting through the deluge. She pushed the door open and got out of the street, soaking head to toe, giggling like a child.

When she got back behind the steering wheel she was already feeling ten times better. But instead of going back home, she decided to push forward.

Lost in her thoughts, Lea took a wrong turn, finding herself in an unfamiliar part of town. But instead of feeling anxious, she felt a spark of curiosity ignite within her.It felt great for a change. The allure of the unknown didn't scare her, it was inviting at the moment.

"Guess I'm going on an adventure whether I like it or not," she chuckled to herself as she pressed the accelerator, making her way forward, tearing through the rain.
