Chapter 102-Brother's girl
Chapter 102-Brother's girl
Phill's POV
What unfolded before me made me both woeful and happy. I saw her head slump on his chest. I saw the worry lines fade from her forehead. Her eyes shut in a peaceful slumber and that was all that I ever wanted. Seeing Lea happy made me happy. I wanted nothing but her happiness. But why then was I burning inside? It wasn't like I was seeing the two of them together for the first time. It wasn't funny because I wasn't even jealous. I mean I was jealous but not of their love. I mean I was jealous because Lea had that shoulder where she could lay her head and forget everything. But I didn't.
" Umm, I am going to make this call. I will be back real soon. " I excused myself before my face gave away my frustration. " I am going to grab some more coffee! " Mercy also excused herself and we both walked outside in the lawn. She kept walking behind me without saying anything or catching up.
I stopped and turned around. She paused as well. I tilted my head and gave her the questioning look. "Aren't you going to make that call? " She mocked me finally walking up to me. " At least I can actually make a call out here, but last time I checked there wasn't any coffee machine installed in the lawn. "
She heaved a deep sigh. " I just didn't want to be alone." I opened my mouth to protest. She wouldn't be alone. Jake and Lea were inside. But I shut it nevertheless. I understood what she meant.
" It's not after people leave that you truly understand your true feelings towards them. It is when you can finally figure out what they meant in your life.... " I sat down on the lawn bench and pulled her beside me. "Are we talking about Percy? " She didn't look up.
The two of them had been really close since childhood. I was always envious of how much Mercy idolised and patronised him. She was too fond of him. And ever since the revelation about the family fiasco, I could see a change in the way she looked at her brother. It wasn't merely family love. I saw it but didn't bother. It was between the two of them after all.
" I am leaving after Kai comes around." Mercy said looking up towards the stars. " Leaving? " I asked, taken by surprise. She nodded. " I need to find him. He left me hanging. I need some answers, Phill. I need those answers real bad. I won't be able to live without them. "
Before I could ask her what she meant a car pulled right in front of us. A car that we knew too well but a car that should be there.
We stood up on our feet, " Mother? " Mercy and I almost yelled in unison. The chauffeur hurried to open the door as she stepped out. She flashed a bright smile, pretending to breathe, looking curiously around. " It's been a long time since I last visited this property. "
That sly woman never missed a single chance to let us know who was the boss. " Why are you here, Mother? " I asked her directly because she definitely was there for a property visit in the middle of the night.
" Why, Phill? What did I do to receive this rudeness? Wasn't I the one who tipped you about the real culprit? Don't a deserve a little gratitude? " She had no sorrow or empathy in that tone. Sometimes I envied her for her heartlessness. It was perhaps a bliss to not feel anything, not be moved by decisions made by the heart. The stupid organ.
" I wasn't being rude. I just asked you a question. Why are you here in the middle of the night? " I repeated myself. " Well, I am here to visit family. " She turned around walking towards the main entrance.
" Mother, wait! " I ran after her. " Wait? Why? Where? Here? " She pretended to be offended , frowned at me and resumed walking. " Mother please, I beg you. Kai is still unconscious. And Lea... " I gulped. " Lea isn't in the right state of mind. Please don't add to your agony by presenting yourself in front of her. You know you are not in her right books. " She gave me a very stern look. Mercy stepped back. We all knew that look and it meant no messing around. She grabbed my shoulder and shook me a couple of times. " Boy, get your acts straight before lecturing me about what to do and what not to do. Get over your brother's girl. They have a child. Now that they are back together, they might end up marrying. You don't want to hang around your brother's family while your heart still throbs for that girl. Do whatever you need to. Get over your feelings. It will ruin more than you can imagine. " She turned around after poking my chest, leaving me absolutely flushed and speechless.
" Besides, I never bothered about that Sully girl, before. But now that she might turn out becoming a part of my family, I gotta take care of some matters. I wouldn't have bothered, had it not been because of Kai. Ahhhh! To think about that I have a grandson. I mean look at me? Do I even look that old? I wonder what the boy is going to call me... What do you think Mr.Locus? " She chirped as she asked her butler as they walked forward, strutting as she did, her heels clicking on the ground as automatic door shut on our face.
Mercy looked at me dejected. We knew we need to intervene. Both of us scurried towards the emergency staff elevator that was installed outside the building.
