Chapter 221 - 220: Designated Service
Chapter 221 - 220: Designated Service
"How does it feel? Kicking preschoolers, fun?" Only after everyone had dispersed did Lin Qing ask, smiling.
"You know, it’s actually quite interesting." Chen Xuan candidly faced his inner thoughts and found not a shred of guilt at his unfair advantage. If he wasn’t an Ability User, he would have been kept in the dark the whole time, just like those two classmates.
Moreover, unlike the dense superpower atmosphere in Jiang City, hardly anyone from his hometown suspected the possibility of him being an Ability User. Whether that’s good or bad, he wasn’t sure.
Half an hour after the card game ended, Gu Zhaoning called.
"Dr. Chen, we’ve arrived at the White Swan Hotel entrance. Do you need us to pick you up?"
"No need, I’ll meet you in the lobby. There’s a quieter booth there." After hanging up, Chen Xuan said to Lin Qing, "Let’s go, the guests have arrived."
He left without saying goodbye to Zhao Jin.
Having learned a lesson this time, the other party probably won’t want to deal with him for the rest of his life.
Upon arriving in the hotel lobby, Chen Xuan immediately spotted Gu Zhaoning and the "patient" she brought. Although the latter was thoroughly covered with sunglasses and a mask, the intimate posture in which she clung to Gu Zhaoning suggested their relationship was closer than ordinary friends.
He walked toward Gu Zhaoning, who noticed him as well, her eyes brightened, and she quickly tugged at the person beside her, waving at Chen Xuan.
At that moment, seven or eight people chatting idly at the hotel entrance suddenly came over.
"That’s him!"
"Two of you, block the security."
"Chen Xuan, you’re quite arrogant, huh? Care to step outside for a talk?" The leader was Zhu Wu, glaring fiercely at Chen Xuan, holding a short baton.
Chen Xuan couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Losing a card game, not even costing him a million, why such a big fuss? He quickly called people to regain face, couldn’t even wait for the reunion to disperse, truly shameless.
Seeing Chen Xuan not answering and showing disdain, Zhu Wu flew into a rage. After years in Yue City, classmates treated him politely as Brother Wu, and someone from Jiang City dared act cocky? He swung the baton at Chen Xuan’s shoulder—
But halfway through, Zhu Wu felt himself lifted off, intense side pain as if hit by a truck! Then his vision flipped, the baton slipped from his hand, and his face slammed into the ground, his head buzzing.
Wha—what happened?
It took him over ten seconds to regain his senses from the concussion.
Not just him...all his companions were pinned down by burly men in suits, each astoundingly strong, immobilizing them effortlessly with one hand and one knee.
"Dr. Zhang, are you okay?" Gu Zhaoning approached, concerned. "I saw they seemed intent on violence."
Of course, he was fine... Zhu Wu hadn’t even touched him.
Somewhat surprised, Chen Xuan asked, "Are those your bodyguards?"
"They’re not mine, they’re my dad’s." Gu Zhaoning sighed. "I wanted to come to Jiang City; he wouldn’t allow it. I begged for ages until he agreed, but I had to bring Uncle Gu and the others."
"Mr. Chen, hello. Do you know these people?" An older man looked at Chen Xuan, having swiftly arrived first, skillfully taking down Zhu Wu. "How should we handle them?"
He must be the Uncle Gu mentioned by Gu Zhaoning. Chen Xuan replied, "I don’t know them. Leave them to the police; gathering for trouble and armed assault, they deserve to be locked up for days."
"What are you doing!? Stop causing trouble here!" The hotel security arrived belatedly.
"Take them outside." Uncle Gu ignored the security, ordering his colleagues directly.
Without a word, they dragged Zhu Wu and the others out as if they were chicks.
"It might not be good to stay here," Chen Xuan said, surveying the area with some resignation. Though the event occurred swiftly and ended quickly, it still drew many onlookers. Curiously, they eyed Chen Xuan and his group, and some took photos with their phones.
"I was just about to say that," Gu Zhaoning nodded. "I booked a suite along with the flight, and now that it’s inconvenient in the lobby, we can go upstairs to discuss."
They even prepared a room?
Chen Xuan agreed happily.
The elevator stopped at the top floor, where he found the best suite in White Swan Hotel, nearly occupying the entire floor. On both sides of the living room, floor-to-ceiling windows offered sweeping views of Yue City.
Bodyguards accompanying Gu Zhaoning guarded the door.
Seeing Lin Qing follow them inside without a hint of avoidance, the woman couldn’t help coughing twice.
Gu Zhaoning looked at Chen Xuan, "May I ask who this is..."
"She’s my assistant, Lin Qing. You can entirely trust her. Regardless of whether we find a cure today or not, this matter will remain confidential."
With Chen Xuan’s assurance, the woman didn’t insist further. After they sat on the sofa, she removed her mask and sunglasses, revealing her face.
She was quite a beautiful girl, similar in age to Gu Zhaoning, around seventeen or eighteen, with narrow almond-shaped eyes, rare amber pupils, a high nose bridge, a slim jaw, and three silver earrings on her left ear.
However, having seen many beauties like Liu Shuyue and Lin Qing, Chen Xuan was unfazed.
"This is my friend, Su Xingwan, whom I mentioned earlier." Gu Zhaoning introduced proactively. "Dr. Chen, praised by Beitian Academy as a master, with skills reaching perfection."
Lin Qing couldn’t help covering her mouth.
She seemed to be holding back laughter.
Chen Xuan, feeling slightly awkward, wondered if they exaggerated his abilities. If he couldn’t diagnose her illness, wouldn’t it be a joke? Also, he truly couldn’t discern any issues with Su Xingwan now. Able to accompany the Gu Family heiress, her complexion was like any ordinary person’s, not the look of someone cursed.
"Dr. Chen, you’re really young." Su Xingwan, evidently doubting too, eyed Chen Xuan and subtly remarked, "I thought the renowned doctor praised by Ning would be an experienced expert at a big hospital."
Young again...
Being questioned by peers or elders is one thing, but how could a seventeen or eighteen-year-old decry his age? Chen Xuan chuckled, "Experts from big hospitals at best reach Beitian Academy’s entry level. I suppose Miss Gu has already recommended you to famous doctors."
"Indeed, I’ve visited hospitals ranked top nationwide, even Yue Beifeng at Beitian Academy consulted, but their treatment showed no effect." Gu Zhaoning explained quickly, "Don’t be fooled by her current good complexion. Once the symptoms flare up...it’s excruciating, causing unimaginable nightmares. I worry her condition might be similar to mine, so I hoped you’d examine her."
"Nightmare?" Chen Xuan raised an eyebrow.
He noticed Su Xingwan clenching her fists.
"She says...it’s far from an ordinary dream..."
"Let me explain myself," Su Xingwan interrupted her friend.
"Are you sure?" Gu Zhaoning worried.
"No problem, I’ve said it many times already." She sighed, paused briefly, then began slowly, "I’ve had this illness for about a year, recurring occasionally, symptoms being nightmares. The problem is, these dreams are almost identical to reality, I can see, ask, hear... It’s almost like another reality. Even if I get hurt inside, there’s no immediate escape."
"The most severe occurrence was being chased by strange creatures, forcing me to jump from the third floor, breaking both legs. I felt like I was about to die, bones piercing the flesh, even breathing tasted of blood, but despite that, I remained in the dream for a full two weeks!"
Her lips tightened, seemingly recalling that agonizing moment, "Once the dream ended, I was fine physically, legs working, but I can’t pretend that experience didn’t happen! I’m scared to sleep, fearful of nightmares appearing... It’s severely affecting my life and work!"
"Work?" Chen Xuan was a bit intrigued; shouldn’t she be studying at this age?
"My friend formed a band, she’s the lead singer." Gu Zhaoning quickly answered, "OneHit, they’re quite popular online."
This was outside Chen Xuan’s knowledge range, although he didn’t pay much attention. Unable to sleep peacefully, singing surely wasn’t ideal. "What did other doctors say?"
"They suspect it’s some kind of mental illness, brain nerve disorders, etc... But all tests returned normal; no issues found!" Su Xingwan gritted her teeth, "Sometimes I wish there was a problem in my brain, at least there’d be a target for treatment, better than being helpless as now!"
