Chapter 724 - 726: Too Unromantic
Chapter 724: Chapter 726: Too Unromantic "Shitou," Xia Xiao, and Gao Jiaxing were both somewhat excited.
Xia Xiao quickly stepped forward and asked, "Are you feeling any discomfort?"
"No, I feel very good." Shitou felt that his body was now in excellent condition, brimming with energy, and even his spirit was much better. His senses had strengthened significantly, and he could even sense every movement outside the villa.
It really felt awesome.
Gao Jiaxing and Xia Xiao breathed a sigh of relief internally, but still suggested to Shitou, "It might be better to go to the hospital for a checkup."
"No need." Shitou thought about how he had woken up sitting in a wooden tub, and everything, including the tub and his shorts, was dry. He felt there was something unusual about his own condition.
If possible, he preferred to avoid being examined by others.
Seeing the concern on the faces of Gao Jiaxing and Xia Xiao, Shitou added, "I can perform the checkup myself."
With that statement, Gao Jiaxing and Xia Xiao no longer said anything. Shitou did have a multidisciplinary Ph.D. which included a medical specialty.
"Grandpa, grandma, you go home first, I won’t be going back yet," Shitou said.
"What do you want to do if you’re not going home?" Xia Xiao looked at Shitou.
Shitou then looked at Gao Jiaxing and said, "I want to go there once more."
Gao Jiaxing and Xia Xiao frowned simultaneously. They had just escaped danger and did not approve of Shitou risking himself again.
"First, call your parents and tell them you’re safe," Gao Jiaxing handed the phone to Shitou.
Shitou took the phone and called Feiyang and Li Min. Upon hearing Shitou’s voice, they both became excited.
"Mom and Dad, I’m with grandpa and grandma now, I’m fine. Hmm, I will go back home with grandpa and grandma in a bit."
After thinking it over, Shitou decided to go home first and reunite with his family to give them some peace of mind and to acknowledge the worry they had experienced during this time.
Originally, he had contemplated using his own mishap to lower the enemy’s guard and infiltrate their ranks once more, but now he had changed his mind.
Shitou drove Gao Jiaxing and Xia Xiao back to the Gao family’s residence. As for the things left in the villa, Xia Xiao picked some of the essentials to bring back, leaving the rest behind and handing the keys to Shitou.
The space was originally Shitou’s, so even if it was entirely handed over to Shitou, Xia Xiao felt it was only appropriate.
Xia Xiao had some sentimental attachment to the disappearance of the space. After all, she had been accompanied by it for decades— not just thirty or forty years, but over sixty years.
However, in the end, the space had granted Shitou a second life. Although Xia Xiao was reluctant to let it go, she held no regrets. In her heart, the space was merely material, nowhere near as important as Shitou.
Upon returning to the Gao family’s home, everyone hurried over to welcome Shitou. His recent brush with disaster had worried them deeply, and now they could finally relax knowing he was safe.
The Gao family was full of joy and celebrated Shitou’s safe return.
Afterwards, Li Min personally conducted a checkup on Shitou, ensuring that her son was truly alright and then feeling relieved.
After three days, all the children and grandchildren returned to their positions at work, and Shitou rejoined the military.
Every day, Gao Jiaxing and Xia Xiao would take walks in the park, surf the internet, watch television, and ask the housekeeper to cook whatever they fancied. Life was still very leisurely for them.
Only now, the grandchildren had all grown up and were either working or studying abroad, and their own children were not home either, leaving only Gao Jiaxing, Xia Xiao, and the housekeeper at home, making it feel a bit emptier.
"I’m just looking forward to when Shitou gets married and we can hold great-grandchildren," Xia Xiao, interlocking arms with Gao Jiaxing, strolled down the park’s path.
"Yes. But after all, children and grandchildren have their own luck; let them be," Gao Jiaxing said, although he hoped Shitou and the others would marry and have children, he was also open-minded about it.
Back in the military, Shitou hadn’t seen Xi Shanyue, who frowned slightly upon learning about the situation. She called Feiyang and asked, "Dad, where have you sent Shanyue?"
Shitou knew from Feiyang that Xi Shanyue was helping to investigate the spy, but he didn’t expect that Shanyue hadn’t returned and that the spy was well-hidden and not easily exposed.
"Don’t worry, rascal, Shanyue is fine and will be sent back to you tomorrow," Feiyang assured him from the other end.
Shitou grunted in acknowledgment, and Feiyang added, "You’re not getting any younger. When you meet a good girl, just go ahead and mingle, and report back when you’re ready to get married."
"I’m not even of legal marriage age yet; no rush," Shitou carried on the conversation leisurely until Feiyang hung up.
While Xi Shanyue had yet to return, Amy found her way to Shitou’s door.
"Peize," Amy looked at Shitou with tear-filled eyes, and upon seeing Shitou’s reactionless face to her, she continued, "Peize, I’m sorry, you must be blaming me, right? It’s all my fault. If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt. It’s so good that you’ve woken up."
At those words, Shitou paused, "You still know something, why didn’t you report it?" Shitou had seen Amy’s reports.
"I was just suspicious and not very sure about it, so I didn’t write it in the report," Amy hesitantly said.
"Hmm, what are you suspicious about?" Shitou inquired.
Amy suggested, "Can we find a place to sit down and talk?"
Shitou nodded, "To my office."
"Let’s go out and find a restaurant, have a meal, drink some tea, and have a good chat," Amy proposed.
After Amy spoke, Shitou countered, "You could also choose not to talk."
Hearing Amy speak like this, Shitou lost any desire to chat with her.
Where was she lacking compared to Xi Shanyue? Amy was very unsatisfied, but still followed Shitou.
She had thought that being in Shitou’s office would mean a private moment for the two of them, but to her surprise, there were two more people present, both ready to take notes, which only deepened Amy’s frustration.
