Soon, someone brought them food; just plain bread and bottled water.

"Disgusting," Xi Beilei bit into it and frowned in displeasure, wanting to spit it out.

"I’m not eating," Xi Beilei stubbornly threw the bread on the ground, drinking only the water, refusing to eat the bread.

Shanyue, feeling helpless, picked up the bread from the floor, dusted it off, and put it aside without trying to persuade her sister any further.

Xi Beilei, having been pampered by Dr. Xi and Assistant Qian since she was little, was used to getting whatever she wanted, living a life sweet as honey — unlike Shanyue, who had been raised more freely.

But water alone wasn’t filling. After using the restroom twice, Xi Beilei couldn’t stand the hunger any longer.

"Eat," Shanyue handed the bread Xi Beilei had thrown on the floor back to her.

"Beibei, don’t fight with your own stomach. If you don’t eat, you’ll stay hungry. By noon, afternoon, or even if we’re not rescued by then, our meals will still be bread and water," Shanyue patiently explained.

"I don’t want to; I want to go home. I want my mom and dad. I don’t want to stay here..." Xi Beilei cried loudly in the secret room, unconsolable by Shanyue this time.

Shanyue felt a headache coming on and helpless with her sister. Having been fed only bread and water since being kidnapped, she had requested other food, but the kidnappers didn’t care.

She was just a kidnapped victim; the kidnappers hadn’t tortured them, which was somewhat fortunate.

Shanyue lacked the skills to save herself; she didn’t dare make a scene.

Especially now that her sister was here, she feared the kidnappers might harm them. She had no idea what the situation was outside.
