Chapter 145: Ten items

Chapter 145: Ten items

[Starting bid for this item is eight gold, with each following bid of 50 silvers or above]

The players began bidding fervently as soon as Anansi’s words ended. Who didn’t want to get some dimensional power?

Those who wanted to use this as research material were far outnumbered by those who wanted to improve their skills. Dimensional or space related power was versatile in nature. There were pretty much no skills which would be worse off with it.

‘Let them bid all they want.’

Zyrus crossed his arms and observed the situation. Making hasty or worse, very high bids would achieve the opposite results. He waited and waited until the bids started to slow down at fifteen gold and fifty silver. Right now, only he and two others were going for the item.

“One gold.”

“Two gold!”

His competitors increased the bidding to more than 50 silvers, but Zyrus wasn’t provoked by that. Each time he weakly raised his hand as if he could barely afford it. Finally, he obtained the dimensional fragment at the steep price of 20 gold.

‘Great. Forget 20 or even 200 gold, this isn’t something one could buy with money.’

Zyrus was thrilled at the possibility of using Stefna at the end of flag march. Initially it was pretty much impossible to use that authority before reaching the third ring, but with the core component in hand there were many workarounds to it.

The auction proceeded without any unexpected items showing up. In the next hour the 90th item was sold for the highest price thus far: 30 gold. It was a ranged crossbow which could automatically create different attribute mana bolts. Despite being a rare quality item, its utility was on par with unique grades.

Zyrus stretched his arms and got up from his slouching posture. So far he was just casually looking for items, but now was the time for the real deal. Each of the last ten items were bound to be exceptional.

‘I have about 150 gold left, perhaps I’ll have to sell some rare items Nidhoggs’ lair.’

Since Zyrus, the wealthiest sylvarix was feeling like this then there was no need to consider the others. Of course, this was the case after Zyrus had pocketed pretty much all the blueprints, each costing above ten gold.

[Now then, let us begin the finale of the auction. In consideration of your…poor wealth, we’ve decided to auction the last ten items at once. Consider it a small favor as this will be the first and last time something like this is allowed]

*Whoooo*

“You’re the best!!!!”

The entire auction hall erupted into cheers. At this moment, Anansi had become the players’ favorite administrator.

*Clap*Clap*

Anansi clapped his hands and ten maids appeared on the stage with various items in their hands.

[You will have one minute to observe the items. The bidding will begin after that, and if no new bids are placed within ten seconds then the item will be considered sold. Also, there’s no rule for maximum bids for this section]

Noone had the time to ponder on the intricacies of the new rules. At the moment, every player’s eyes were glued to the ten screens.

[Thread of Life]

An old band woven from the whiskers of a deceased Dragon. It carries the weight of long history.

Tenacity: Every day for 1 minute, Grants a 10% defensive boost based on the HP lost. As long as the wearer has tenacity to endure, they cannot be reduced below 1 HP from a single attack. Upon activating this effect the Thread of Life will be destroyed

[Coat of the Diplomat]

A simple yet elegant attire suited for those representing their faction. It is unaffected by dust and stains, provides minor slash and stab resistance.

Blessing of Thoth: The wearer of this item could read, write, and speak any five common languages.

[Blueprint of Mana Transformer]

Contains technical plans regarding complex mana applications. Comes with a total of 10 mana transformation device blueprints.

[Yarn of Fateful Eve]

A special crafting material. Said to have been blessed by the light of stars.

Allows the craftsman to weave magical enchantments directly into clothing. The quality and capacity of the enchantment will be improved based on the used materials.

[Mutated Seed of the Dracaena cinnabari]

A seed that was soaked in the blood of Kraken. It could absorb ambient mana from the air and feed it to its root system.

With enough mana supply and careful planting it is possible to create an ecosystem originating from the seed.

[Mantle of the Shadow Assassin]

A tattered gray cloak that could blend in with the shadows. Resistant to below D grade identification and detection skills.

Feather Flight: Allows the user to slow down their fall and glide into the shadows. The effect is nullified under the presence of direct light.

[Stormcaller]

A crossbow made from the trunk of a thunderstruck tree. Can only be used with lightning imbued bolts as other, regular materials would be turned to ash upon contact. Allows rapid, precise firing.

Chain Conduction: The archer can link up to ten bolts if they were shot within 10 second duration or if they were directed at the same target. Each link will increase the final damage by 10%, each chain has 10% chance to apply a stackable ‘Shock’ debuff.

[Borrowed Time]

A potion found from the ruins of a fallen civilization. It is nourished by regrets and futile hope.

Upon consumption the user's perception of time slows by half for 30 seconds. Cannot be used during combat or near-death situations.

[Jar of gathered wails]

A cursed mason jar that echoes with screams. Prolonged exposure with this item might cause one to lose their sanity

Ear of Gossip: After supplying mana, the jar records all sounds within the range of 100 meters for the duration of a day. After playing the record, the user must speak to the jar for ten days. If not fulfilled within a month then the user would be cursed by the jar, forever losing their tongue.

[Tales of Things Unborn]

A handwritten book by a famed explorer. Contains the appearance, habitats, and anatomical structures of creatures that haven’t been born in the world.

A great aid for those with an adventurous heart! May you be a step ahead in evolution.

Zyrus was glad that he had a high intelligence stat. Reading everything within one minute and focusing on what to buy was crucial. As expected from the last items for the auction there wasn’t one mediocre thing.

‘Still, it’s easy to eliminate a few.’

Coat of the Diplomat, Stormcaller, and Jar of gathered wails were items he was least interested in. They were great for those who needed them, but he wasn’t among them.

Yarn of Fateful Eve and Borrowed Time were items important for specific scenarios. Zyrus could think of how to use them, but in all honesty they weren’t at the level where he must get them.

‘This leaves the remaining five. I could buy three with the funds I have if all goes right.’

Even Zyrus wasn’t sure what he would end up getting. His first priority was to get the Mutated Seed of the Dracaena cinnabari while the last was Tales of things Unborn which had uses unknown to him.

[Now then, let the bids begin!]

Immediately the auction house was engulfed in shouts of various bids. It was difficult to keep tabs on all items so most had done an elimination process similar to Zyrus.

At 44.5 gold Zyrus was the leading bidder for the Mutated Seed of the Dracaena cinnabari. At the same time, he was kicked out of the competition from the Mantle of the Shadow Assassin and Thread of life.

‘Well damn, looks like I underestimated someone.’

The thread of life going over fifty gold was something he had expected. Afterall, what the wealthy feared the most was death. What caught Zyrus off guard was that someone had bid sixty gold at once on the mantle of shadow assassin. It was an exaggerated yet successful bid since no one dared to compete for the mantle, making it the first item to be sold.

[Borrowed time, Sold for 45 gold!]

[Stormcaller, Sold for 55 gold]

.

.

.

[Blueprint of Mana Transformer, sold for 35 gold]

‘Nice, that’s one in the bag.’

Zyrus bid more aggressively after getting the blueprint for a price cheaper than he had estimated. It didn’t take more than a minute before he acquired the item he wanted the most.

[Mutated Seed of the Dracaena cinnabari, sold for 51 gold]

Zyrus sharpened his eyes and did some calculations to see what he would be able to buy. His final decision was Tales of things Unborn since they had a lot of research value even outside the animal rearing aspect.

Just as Zyrus was about to make a bid though, his hands paused out of instinct.

[Eye of Annihilation]

A pair of blood red reptilian eyes scanned the auction hall for the mana fluctuation he had felt. At this moment, all of Zyrus’s scales were trembling with mana.

For the first time since his regression, he was feeling a threat from another player. The dark, necrotic mana he felt was likely due to them being excited; and yet, it gave him a dangerous premonition.

His instincts were screaming at him that he should never allow them to have what they sought.

[Curse of Uncertainty: Void Quandary]

Zyrus covered up all traces of his mana and at the same time, targeted the cloak of the player his eyes had caught. No matter how powerful the cloak was, it wasn’t above the power of concepts.

‘Motherfucking hell!’

He almost cursed out loud and immediately placed all the gold he had left on Yarn of Fateful Eve. The next seconds seemed to stretch infinitely as not just Zyrus but even the others felt the surge of necrotic mana. Noone seemed to care much as there were still a couple of items being auctioned off.

‘Fuck.’

Zyrus slumped back on the seat and rubbed his forehead. Even with all his experience he couldn’t maintain his composure. The person he saw after going past the cloak’s effect was someone who shouldn’t, under any circumstances, be in this auction house. This was a scenario that defied all logic and the very core of the sanctuary’s working.

The dwarf he saw was the greatest enemy he had faced in his conquest of Kyros. He was the foe who had slain more than half of his army.

The greatest necromancer of the sanctuary, the Dwarven Emperor, Xar-Tharoth.

He had appeared in the second ring, as a ‘Player’.
