Chapter 141: Vector Fall

Chapter 141: Vector Fall

It was unknown how long had passed, but finally, Zyrus managed to reduce the threads until only dozens remained. The sphere had thinned out by a lot and his eyes were on the verge of bleeding up.

‘Still, it was worth it.’

He once again closed his eyes and immersed himself in sensing the mana and thinking about the Vector Throw skill. Thunder crashing on the mountaintop, an arrow striking the wooden bird, a frog eating the cicada that was taking flight….various scenarios passed by his eyes.

Zyrus felt himself becoming different creatures and objects. He even felt like he had become the lightning and the air that accompanied the arrow for a moment. He knew that by focusing on any of the sensations it would be easy to rank up his skill. What mattered the most was what he wanted from the skill, the direction he wanted to improve.

‘Speed, Power, and….trajectory.’

All of them were already there. What he wanted to do was to modify them in a way that negated the range limitation without affecting the overall power.

Numerous scenes changed in his eyes before finally, the sphere dissipated into nothingness. Zyrus opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was the floor filled with players, and the system’s notification.

[Congratulations! After understanding your skills deeply, you have attained Stage 3 of Vector Throw]

[Vector throw has met the Requirements to Rank up]

[Due to successful enlightenment, the ranking up has been improved. The skill is transformed into Vector Fall]

[Vector Fall has reached C+ rank]

Zyrus clicked on the screen, and with a flicker a blue window popped up.

[Vector Fall (C+)]

Throw the javelin into the air and by consuming mana, control its trajectory and speed. It is possible to change angles, accelerate or decelerate based on the javelin’s property and mana used.

Effects: Acceleration causes damage to increase by 15%, Deceleration causes damage to decrease by 15%. Both effects cannot go above 100%. With each action there is a 5% chance to create mana projection, dealing 10% of the original damage.

Changing angles will affect the following based on usage:

Armor Penetration: 0-20%.

Mana Penetration: 0-15%.

‘Perfect. It’s a lot more flexible now.’

Zyrus was more than satisfied with the improvement. What he cared about more was the controlling trajectory aspect. The skill would be useful in controlling the enemies while also posing a lethal threat if they choose to ignore it.

Seeing that the rest of his subordinates except for Franken were here, Zyrus didn’t dally and went back to the receptionist. All of the players were busy in their own spheres, so none paid him any mind.

“Congratulations, dear guest. You have fulfilled the requirement to go to the second floor of the pagoda. Would you like to ascend?”

“No. How much time is left from my 12 hours?”

“One hour and thirteen minutes,” the elf lady replied after checking the clock.

“I’ll come later then,” Zyrus nodded and left the area. As expected, a small crowd was gathered at the front since none were able to enter. The players were ready to grill whoever came out for details, but seeing Zyrus’s red eyes, none dared to bother him.

“Fear sure is useful huh.”

“Indeed. Where have you been?” Zyrus heard Franken from a distance and walked towards his companion who was resting under an oak tree.

“Just wandering around. There’re some good restaurants if you’re hungry.”

“Sure, let’s go.”

Not long after the two left for a street stall, a dwarf in black armor also walked out from the pagoda.

***

The next three days passed just like that. Every morning Zyrus went to the enlightenment pagoda and at night he went to spectate his team’s matches. Kyle was improving every day and so were everyone else.

The victors in the champions of munera got the fixed price of 5 gold for each victory. It was a lot considering the player’s current economy; however, the enlightenment pagoda was a bottomless hole that sucked their wealth.

Three gold coins were needed for twelve hours of usage. Those who won the matches spent more than half of their income on this alone. And if they were unlucky enough to have their equipment broken then it was common for even the victors to be losing their own money.

And all of these were the fortunate problems for the victors. No matter what, they were able to achieve the goal of improving their power. The truly unfortunate fellows were those ranked at the bottom who were losing match after match. This tournament was nothing short of a disaster for them.

*Whoooooo*

The colosseum erupted into cheers as Anansi appeared in the middle of the arena. After numerous battles a total of 24 teams were left from the original 96. Both blue and red groups had 12 teams, and now, they would be separated into four groups of three.

[Greetings, players. The second phase of the Champions of Munera would begin tonight!]

[This time, the groups aren’t chosen randomly, but rather, based on their performance. It is arranged in a way so that the teams who performed very well don’t face one another from the get go]

[Another change is that this time, there will only be a total of three matches for the eight subgroups. Each team will have one match against others of their subgroup, and those with the highest victory will win. In case of a draw the team who won in a shorter time would win]

[Also, there’ll be a surprise announcement during the break, so look forward to it]

The crowd once again erupted into cheers. Zyrus, on the other hand, was busy looking at the status screen. In the past couple of days he had upgraded [Spear Aura] to stage 2 and [Master of Sojutsu] to stage 1.

‘And I have saved up thirty gold as well.’

The sudden increase in wealth was due to Franken betting alongside him. He had to haggle with Anansi for a bit, but in the end they both ended up making a small amount of fortune.

Zyrus closed the tabs and looked at the players walking into the arena. It was fortunate that the first matches were of the blue team.

“Want some?”

“Sure,” Zyrus took two skewers from Franken’s hand and gave one to Strongfist who was sitting on the other side. Their group was weird even among the presence of Elder souls who were in all shapes and sizes. Strongfist and Zyrus were unique on their own, but the one who caught the most attention was Franken. A reindeer sitting using magic to eat from levitating skewers wasn’t something one saw everyday.

*Clang*

The bell chimed again and marked the beginning of the first match. After seeing the participants, Zyrus who had a skewer in hand stood up and walked towards Anansi.

“Betting on someone else as well?”

“Indeed. We’ll be needing some money tomorrow since the announcement is likely to be about the auction. Besides, it’s melee orcs against an elf team who has at least two mages.” Zyrus spoke to Franken and pulled him along as well. Another reason behind his bet was that he recognized the elf mage wearing a blue cloak.

‘I recall he was called Overlord of Marsh. It wasn’t that impressive of a nickname, but only those who fought against him knew how annoying that man was to deal with.’

It was a bad matchup for the orcs, and he didn’t want to miss out on the free gold. After passing through a few rows the duo were once again in front of the administrator.

“What are the odds?”

“Five times return for the orcs’ victory, double for the elves.”

“Elves it is then. Also go all in for my team as well.”

“How much?”

Zyrus didn’t answer out loud and gave Anansi the cloth bag. The latter didn’t even look at the pouch and shooed them off. It was afterall in their interest if others didn’t know how much the others were betting.

“Oh, Mr. Zyrus, hard to see you around this time,” A chubby goblin waved and walked over from the nearby seat. He was one of the few acquaintances Zyrus had made after his daily visits to betting areas and famous restaurants. The fact that he was wearing luxurious clothes and that his team was winning made it easier to make allies.

“Can’t be helped, my team was placed at the end for two consecutive days. What about your team, Chief Bron?”

“Pretty well. Barely made it to the second round.”

The two chatted for a while and talked about some future trades and such. Zyrus had been having similar conversations with others as well. As for how many would eventually form a partnership, it was up to luck.

By the time he and Franken came back to their seat, the match had already reached its climax. The elf mage had trapped the orcs in a swamp which gave them no chance to get close.

Combined with sniping from the elf archer and healing from a priest, the orcs were unable to do much besides throw their axes and take damage over time. It was an anticlimactic battle to say the least.

“Guess we made sixty gold?”

“Mhm. It’ll probably cross hundred soon,” Zyrus pointed at the other two teams that were walking into the arena.

One side was Kyle and the rest, while on the other side was a team led by a minotaur king.
