Chapter 137: Champions of Munera
Chapter 137: Champions of Munera
Zyrus stood above the highest vantage point of the island and observed the players doing their work. It had been a few hours since his talks with others were over. Half of his vision was occupied by his status screen, much of which had changed since the last time he checked it.

‘About time I work on the skills which had been neglected recently.’
Zyrus closed the status and leaned back on the soft grass. Many of his skills were on the verge of getting an improvement, but due to lack of suitable opportunity he had yet to rank them up to the next threshold. It was fortunate that the next event would give him the opportunity he needed.
All he could do now was wait for the system’s announcement.
As it turned out, he didn’t have to wait much longer. By the time the sun was about to settle below the horizon, a rose gold colored status screen appeared before every player. Just the borders alone gave off a valiant and heroic aura.
❰❰ Congratulations to all the Flag Bearers for their successful conquest ❱❱
[It has been more than half a year since the initiation of flag march]
[Out of the 100 crown holders, 96 have managed to retain their position!]
At this moment, every player on the second ring saw the silvery text appear on the gold screen. Many were indifferent whereas the ones in question, the 96 kings, had mixed feelings. On one hand, it was good that they survived but on the other hand, it took a mere six months for four of them to die. One had to remember that each and every one of the kings was a formidable player who stood above millions.
“Looks like the event you were talking about has arrived.”
“Indeed. We were right on time,” Zyrus replied to Ria and the others who had arrived before him. It could be said that out of everyone in the entire second ring, his group was the most well prepared for what was to come.

[To celebrate this moment, an event called “Champions of Munera” will be held starting from tonight!]
[This will be an arena battle where the 96 kings would be pitted against one another, to find out who stands at the apex]
▐ Following are the rules of the Champions of Munera
At the beginning of the events, the flag bearers will be divided into groups of four by drawing lots. Each king can select up to 10 participants from their factions. There will be 24 of such groups, divided into two groups. Each group will have their members battle against one another in a 5v5 arena battle, and the one who achieves most victories would advance further. Each group, namely Red and Blue, will have 12 such victors. They will then be divided into four groups, again battling in the same manner. The process would repeat until the victors of both groups have been determined. At last, the two will then clash on the grand finale ofthe Champions of Munera. The rules were nothing too extraordinary, but the key part was what came after this.
[From the first 24 victors to the last runner-up of the event, all would receive generous rewards]
[At the same time, the victors of the Champions of Munera will earn a special medal as well as the grand prize]
[All battles of theChampions of Munera will be broadcasted live to all the players!]
For a moment, everyone was speechless after reading the last line. It wasn’t out of expectations for the system to be able to live broadcast the event, but the fact that they were generous enough to do so was surprising.
There were countless players who never had the chance to see those at the top battle with all their hearts. It was a great learning opportunity for the ambitious players. Even for the rest, it was a great source of entertainment.
The abrupt announcement and less than an hour of preparation time only added fuel to the players’ excitement. No matter who or where they were, all of the players were focused on finishing their task and getting ready to watch the event.
The sole exception to this hubbub of excitement were the 96, or well, 95 kings. They couldn’t help but curse the administrator for such untimely arrangement. While they were rushing here and there to make arrangements for their absence, Zyrus and the group were ready to depart.
“Are you really not going to participate?” Lauren asked as she saw Zyrus put on a black robe. The fabric was luxurious and very much unsuitable for a battle.
“Indeed. Kyle, you’ll be the captain. Pouka, you’ll be the reserve member.”
“Understood.”
*Rooar*
Kyle and Pouka were feeling contrasting emotions at the moment. The former was under pressure since he would be representing their entire faction, while the latter was just excited to go out. The island and ships didn’t suit the bear afterall.
Just then, a sudden vortex appeared above Zyrus. While the notice said the time would be at night, it was night on the Kyros continent. Due to slight difference in time between the two places, Zyrus had even less time to prepare. Not that he needed any.
He nodded at Ria one last time and channeled his mana into the vortex formed of golden motes. In the next instance, he, Franken and the remaining six disappeared from the island.
…
*BOOM*BOOM*BOOM*
House-sized drums rang on their own and welcomed the participants. No matter which faction they belonged to, the first thing every player did after teleportation was to look at the mesmerizing city below them.
Thousands of players were summoned on the edges of a flying colosseum, and yet, it wasn’t crowded at all.
*Crackle*
As if to welcome them, countless fireworks set off from the city below and blanketed the night sky. Multitudes of colors and drumming sounds instantly lifted off everyone’s heavy mood. No matter what, just this sight was worth the trip. It was without a doubt one of the most memorable scenes they had ever seen.
[Welcome Players! It is I, Aurora!]
An energetic voice overlapped with the firecrackers and rang in everyone’s ears. When they looked above, they were once again surprised by what they saw.
Meeting an administrator wasn’t that surprising; however, this was the first time they had seen many of them gather together. Aurora, Anansi, and two unfamiliar administrators were floating above the center of the colosseum.
Zyrus also looked at the other two administrators, or rather, at the veiled woman besides the mountainous slime. She was Citlalli, the administrator who showed up after the fourth ring. Matope being here was expected since he was in charge of the oceanic regions, but she was an unexpected surprise.
‘Considering her nature, something must have changed drastically.’
Not even his own presence as a variable had caught her attention. Regardless, now wasn’t the time for that.
[Without wasting any time, let’s just start the event]
Aurora flapped her butterfly wings, causing dozens of red and blue fireflies to float towards the flag bearers. Zyrus also saw a blue firefly landing on his shoulder, placing him in the group ‘Blue.’
*Clap*
With a clap of her hand, the players were separated on two sides of the colosseum; this time they were on the wide arena. Looking at the sides, the colosseum seemed even more gigantic. The only strange thing was that the seats were empty.
And as if sensing everyone’s thoughts, Anansi took a step forward and lifted his fedora in a welcoming gesture.
“Ho ho ho… its been a while since we all gathered.”
“Quite a few greenhorns we’ve got.”
“Indeed, and they look loaded.”
Boisterous chatter instantly filled the entire colosseum. Those who appeared on the spectator seats were someone no one expected to see, be it the players on the arena or those watching the live broadcast.
“Never thought that there’d be so many merchants,” Shi kun spoke as he craned his neck. Almost half of the stands were filled by Elder souls and Merchants they had seen in the first ring.
“There are even more. It’s just that due to our unique circumstances we haven’t seen them after the first ring,” Zyrus looked around and settled his eyes on the familiar figures. One of his primary objectives was to ‘invite’ these elder souls and merchants over to the Pisces archipelago. Now that the ocean routes were open, the system shouldn’t have any issue if he sped up the process.
“Still, the place looks a bit empty.”
“Haha…it won’t in a moment.” Zyrus looked towards the sky and stared at the administrators. How could they have done such a miscalculation? This colosseum and the city below weren’t just for them, but rather, all of the players.
[Before we start with the event, we have prepared a special privilege for those watching the broadcast]
All of the broadcasting screens focused on Anansi who was wearing his signature black tuxedo.
[This colosseum will give you the best experience to watch the fights, whereas the city below is a safe zone full of countless entertainment and trading venues. Both of them are part of a brand-new map, created solely for this event]
[What does that have to do with you, you ask?]
[Well, with the cheap price of just 100 silvers, you can earn a place on the empty seats….Starting NOW!]
Anansi spread open his arms and opened thousands of portals. All seats of the colosseum were filled in just a minute.
