Chapter 75: Ch 75: A Different Situation
Emrys slowly began to retreat. He wanted to get as far away from this place as possible. His intuition told him he couldn’t afford to mess with the one hiding in the dark, silently observing everything.
As he had expected, the one watching from the shadows had no intention of making things difficult for him as long as he didn’t interfere with the Ghostflame Beast. Just like that, Emrys safely retreated.
"I better avoid involving myself with those Ghostflame Beasts," Emrys muttered inwardly. Even the first time he saw them, his senses told him to stay away; they were very dangerous. Now that he was about to get involved, he suddenly sensed a horrifying presence. Fortunately, he did not make any rash moves and was able to come out of there safely.
He started walking deeper, however, to his surprise, he walked out of the petrified forest in just half a day.
"Isn’t this petrified forest a little too small?"
Emrys mused. Generally speaking, even the smallest forest should be tens of thousands of miles big, and crossing them on legs in just a few days should be impossible.
However, here he was, out of the forest in just three or four days.
Now that he was outside the petrified forest, he could see a towering mountain range not far from where he was standing. This mountain range was entrenched in front of him and he could not see the end of it. There was a tall pillar standing on top of each mountain peak. He could see a huge chain bridge, burning red for some reason, connecting each pillar to the other.
This mountain range was also filled with dense trees. Unlike the petrified forest, the trees here were not stony but real, living trees. It is just that there was still not a trace of green present. The forest of this mountain range was filled with dark, black trees.
"What is wrong with terrains here?"
Emrys shook his head, took a deep breath, and decided to enter the forest.
As soon as he entered, Emrys suddenly frowned. The atmosphere around him was obviously different from that of the petrified forest. He could actually see a small village.
"Are there people living here?"
Emrys was surprised and slowly walked to the village. This village was very different from a village back in the Infinite Soul Star. A few run-down houses were situated within. The surroundings were very spacious and looked somewhat sinister and terrifying.
Emrys swept his gaze around before continuing to walk toward the depths of the forest. However, just as he took a step forward, several pairs of blood-red eyes suddenly lit up in the surrounding houses at the same time.
These eyes were filled with ferociousness and cruelty as they stared at Emrys’s back.
When Emrys was about to leave, a few houses nearby exploded at the same time. A few creatures rushed out. From the looks of it, they were about the height of eleven or twelve-year-old human children, but their entire bodies were completely red. Their ears were slightly stretched up, and they had small horns on their foreheads. They also had a red tail, it was an arrowhead-shaped tail.
At present, their bodies were emitting an evil aura. From time to time, they would let out low roars.
These few red creatures took the initiative to attack Emrys.
"Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!"
When the two of them exchanged blows, Emrys immediately noticed that the opponent’s bones were as hard as steel.
Emrys released his soul force, held the blade in hand, and slashed out. His strikes produced sound waves like thunder, piercing through the air in the blink of an eye.
The few red creatures that were charging at the front were instantly drowned by this powerful attack. Emrys did not stop, he continued to slash. In just a short period, a few of those creatures were directly torn apart.
Their bodies shattered and transformed into countless fragments of red light that automatically flew inside Emrys’s body.
This was the first time Emrys killed a creature after the appearance of the bead. He immediately felt the foreign energy cycling through his meridians, roaming inside his veins, and then went straight to the bead.
The intricated patterns on the bead lit up the moment it was touched by the foreign energy. Immediately after, Emrys noticed all the energy was effortlessly absorbed by the bead.
However, that was not the end. To Emrys’s surprise, this time, the Soul Force inside his Soul River also increased by a small amount.
"Umm?"
Emrys frowned. He was completely focused on the bead to notice that a small amount of energy also slipped inside his Soul River, increasing the amount of Soul Force with ease.
But how?
The foreign energy is definitely not the Soul Force, then how did his Soul Force increase?
Emrys looked at the other red creatures in front of him and exhaled deeply. He could only find the answer after killing them, and thus, he gripped the blade tightly and was ready to attack again.
"Come at me!"
Emrys targeted a group of three red creatures preparing to attack him from his right side. He used his Flying Blade Skill and killed the three creatures in the blink of an eye. These creatures only had two circle patterns in their eyes, making them easy targets for Emrys.
As before, the dead creatures immediately shattered into countless fragments of light.
Emrys, observing closely, did not notice anything unusual at first.
However, as the fragments of light poured into his body, he noticed a difference. A small number of these fragments separated midway and took a path inside his body that led directly to the Soul River. This small amount of energy was actually pure Soul Force.
No matter how many creatures he had hunted in the past few days, his Soul Force had never increased. However, this time, it did.
Why?
What is the difference between earlier and now?
After a moment of thought, Emrys’s eyes lit up. He looked at the red creatures as if he had found a piece of gold.
There could only be two possibilities. Either this happened because of the strange bead or these devil-like creatures are different from the others he had encountered before.
If the first theory is true, then it will be very easy for him to increase his Soul Cultivation from now on. And if the second theory is true, then these red creatures are very precious to him. He would need to seek out and hunt each one of them.
This way, he can achieve two goals with a single arrow.
