Chapter 347: Ch 347: A Bizarre Dark Aura
Chapter 347: Ch 347: A Bizarre Dark Aura
"What was that?"
Emrys’s expression changed completely. That pair of eyes he saw earlier was terrifying. Moreover, he was sure they were not human eyes. In fact, they should not belong to Spiritas as well.
After all, Spiritas, mainly pure Spiritas, are beings without a physical body. In fact, it can be said that Spiritas are living souls. There is no way for them to have that pair of demonic red eyes.
Not to mention, those eyes were huge.
The old man saw the change in Emrys’s expression. Coupled with the earthquake just now, he knew something was wrong.
"You... what did you just do?" the old man asked in anger. He didn’t know why, but he had a feeling that Emrys had already discovered what should remain hidden.
Emrys didn’t answer. Instead, he looked at the old man with cold eyes and said in a low voice, "You’re not just a village elder, are you?"
All expression from the old man’s face disappeared. A silence fell between them.
Then, without warning, the old man raised his hand. His eyes began to glow and almost instantly, a powerful beam of starlight energy burst out from his left eye, shooting straight toward Emrys.
But Emrys didn’t even move. He simply raised his hand and flicked his finger.
With a simple flick of his finger, the beam of starlight stopped midair. It was frozen and gave the illusion as if time itself had paused.
Although the beam of starlight was strong, the person executing this attack was only a mortal. No matter how strong a mortal is, they can never harm a powerful Soul Master, mainly Soul Masters like Emrys who is only one step away from truly reaching the peak of Spiritarium.
The old man’s face changed. He stepped back again, clearly afraid now. He could not believe that someone could stop his attack.
When talking to Emrys, he lied about a few things.
It is not that not a single villager is left to venture outside. From the time this village was established, many people have gone out. It is just that no matter who goes out, one thing remains unchanged about them. No one ever tried to cultivate their soul. They were not interested in cultivation at all.
He was one of the people who went outside and even killed many powerful Soul Masters with the beam of starlight. He never encountered a person who could easily stop his attack.
Now that this happened, he was naturally afraid. It means the person in front was totally capable of killing him.
"I’ll only ask once," Emrys easily shattered the beam of starlight and said softly. "What is this village really hiding? And how did you obtain those eyes?"
The old man didn’t answer Emrys. But his body began to shake, and a faint black mist started to rise from his back.
This was no normal old man.
And this village... It was not normal either.
Emrys watched as the dark aura coming out of the old man’s body. It was rising from the old man’s back like a creeping shadow seeping out in tendril-like wisps that twisted and coiled with a life of their own.
Emrys watched intently, his eyes narrowing slightly. The air around the old man seemed to grow colder. The once faint scent of burnt metal and sand was now replaced with a suffocating heaviness. The dark aura was oppressive.
What stood out to Emrys wasn’t just the malice of the aura but how unnatural it felt. It wasn’t the typical abyssal aura nor the demonic aura. This aura was different from anything Emrys had ever felt or known.
As the dark aura continued to rise, the old man’s body trembled as though he were fighting to contain whatever force was surging within him. The black fog swirled and grew thicker with each passing moment. The old man’s expression twisted into something grotesque.
The old man was still a mortal, but this dark aura caused Emrys to feel threatened. He felt like the very essence of the old man was changing. He also sensed that this dark aura was crazily sucking the old man’s vitality, and very soon, the old man’s body became more like a dried corpse.
However, the old man was still alive.
The dark aura had yet to suck dry the old man of all his life force.
Despite the danger, Emrys did not act immediately. He stood still, trying to assess the situation. He was curious, not just about the old man’s current state but about the origins of this dark power. This dark aura should be something beyond the reach of ordinary mortals. In fact, he felt like Spiritarium itself should not have this kind of aura.
Where does it come from then?
With his hand still raised, the old man let out a strained breath. Then he spoke in a trembling voice, "You should have done what I asked when you still had the chance. Now, you will bear my wrath and pay the price of looking at something that you should not have."
Emrys shook his head and suddenly appeared in front of the old man. In that instant, the dark aura rising from his body shattered like broken glass and disintegrated into thin air.
This happened because Emrys used his ability, ⧼Disintegration⧽.
"What?"
The old man was surprised, not expecting the sudden change. However, before he could understand what was happening, he felt someone had grabbed his soul directly.
An invisible wave of energy wrapped around the old man’s soul and forcefully pulled it out of his body. And then, it was trapped in a cage manifested from pure Soul Force.
This time, Emrys used his newly learned Soul Skill called ⧼Soul Cage⧽.
This skill allowed Emrys to separate the old man’s soul from his body, and trap the soul in a cage made of soul force. This skill could also be used to capture wandering spirits. The more powerful Emrys became, the stronger the cage would become.
The instant the old man’s soul was pulled out, his body became lifeless and the last bit of his vitality dissipated.
Perhaps, this happens because the old man’s vitality is already too weak.
In the end, due to the disappearance of his vitality, the old man’s mortal soul also dissipated before he could understand what just happened.
The old man died pitifully, without realizing that he truly died.
