Chapter 298 - 297-

Chapter 298 - 297-

That was only the first step... yet, the overwhelming force that had nearly dominated him was so immense that he had nearly went unconscious. He looked at the captain who stood on the seventh step with a pale expression on her face while blood trailed down the side of her lips.

This was only the first step, there were many more before he could reach the top of the crystal palace.

While trembling, Grey raised his right foot and took his second step unto the second stair.

Boom!

The overwhelming force came again, but this time, it was like a whole mountain had been swung at him with a force that he couldn’t contend with.

The feeling of something rushing into his sea of consciousness and pushing him was very strong and sudden. But after experiencing it from the first step, Grey was no longer as surprised as before.

With grit teeth, he roared inwardly and took the third step.

Three muffled booms rang out inside his body at the same time. Blood spurted from his nose and mouth as his eyes became bloodshot.

Grey looked to have become a crazed beast at this moment with red eyes and blood trickling down the side of his nose and mouth.

But in reality, his mind was very clear and his thinking was full of clarity. He struggled to take the next step, but failed before he could even raise his foot up.

At the same time, the captain who was in front of him took several more steps forward. With each step she took, her body would tremble intensely and blood would fall to the ground.

Roxanne too also started to ascend the stairs, but when her first feet touched the step, her expression changed drastically as she struggled with the sudden mental attack.

This type of attack did not target a particular person with high or low cultvation. Anyone in every realm would feel this sort of thing and it depended on their mental fortitude to go forward.

Maybe the Soul Ascendancy realm expert knew this and deliberately made these staircase this to test those who would come for it.

But Grey determined that to be very unlikely. Only an almighty expert who was at the end of his life and was about to die would do this sort of thing.

Leaving an inheritance for the next generation to gain a serendipity. But from what Grey had observed and noticed, this Soul Ascendancy realm expert was likely still alive and awaiting a chance to revive.

If he knew that he was going to revive in the end, he would not bother about any of this and would fully focus on reviving. That said expert might even wish for the opposite to happen and try to keep other cultivators away from himself.

That did not line up with the idea that it was a secret inheritance.

’Its more likely that this expert died suddenly without having any time to prepare. And to prevent him from reviving anytime soon, his enemy beheaded him and suppressed both his head and body in different places.’

’Without his head, it will take a very long time for him to revive. Even if he does try, the chances of failure will be dangerously high. And with his head and body being suppressed in different places, this expert will have to use several thousand of years to even be able to do anything.’

Grey spoke in his heart as he tried to take the next step. It was not only his body that was being supressed by the stairs, but many of his spells and techniques too.

Like now, he couldn’t summon the Life Demon or use many other techniques. The Soul Devouring Bird was free to come out... but it was also thoroughly suppressed and in a passive state just like Grey.

Just taking a single step forward was like crossing the distance separating two continents. Grey felt like it was possible, but it was incredibly hard at the same time.

When the captain took the ninth step, he face turned flushed as blood seeped out of his skina and pores. It looked as if her blood was about to separate from her body.

It was quite a ghastly sight. The captain also wobbled on the ninth step and it looked like she was going to stumble down and fall... but right as she was about to, a black illusory hand reached out from her chest and pulled her back.

It’s actions of pulling her back saved her from falling over. But the illusionary hand disappeared just as quickly as it came.

The captain became even more weak and in a miserable state. But she did not dare to back down even a little bit.

She was the elder sister who had brought Grey here to obtain this serendipity. She was the first person to take the step and start ascending the staircase, she could not allow herself to stumble backwards even if she had to use all the means she had.

’I cannot degrade my status as the leader and the strongest one her before little Grey. If I stumble... he’ll no longer respect me and getting him to do even more crazier stuff will be a lot harder.’

The captain muttered inwardly. Although the steps did not seem too far and long, but the moment the captain took the seventh step, she felt as if she had crossed a boundless region and was gradually appearing before her destination.

Now that she was in the ninth step, the distance was getting closer, and it was as if she had left the place where she started.

She could not even see Grey and Roxanne behind her, she could only hear the booming sounds as they went up a stair.

All around her was a thick blue fog. This fog permeated everywhere and everything including the captain. She could not see in front of her or behind her. She couldn’t even see the steps in front of her.

But she felt that... she was getting closer to the top of the crystal. It was no longer a faint feeling that she was having... it was for certain.
