Inside a seemingly dark castle, a young man stood, staring at the bright illusionary skies that had nothing but little stars to light up the place.

The man seemed to be in his forties, but anyone who would guess that way could never be more wrong, for he had lived for over 20,000 years.

As the ruling vampire king and as one of the offspring of the progenitors, he held his head high. But this night, his deep red eyes held a bit of worry; his usual prideful demeanor was replaced with a nervous look.

Behind him, a young woman stood in a white blouse and long black trousers. In her hands was a tray, with three cups of red blood sitting on it.

"Why do you still serve me, Sarah?" Lucian asked, turning around slightly to face her.

He rested his arm on the throne that stood beside him, and he brushed it with his claws.

The woman in front of him had a frown on her face. Her long black hair seemed to blend with the shadows, and her red eyes stared at her master.

"You are the king of all vampires—"

"Stop. Speak the truth. I won’t hold you here because I have a crown. You’re already on the level to be called a count, but you still follow me. Why?" He asked once more, walking towards her.

Seeing that the elderly man in front of her really wanted her to speak, she smiled, talking.

"Remember the day that you turned me into a vampire? You turned me with a promise."

Lucian took one of the cups, giving it a subtle twirl before walking back to the throne.

Meanwhile, Sarah continued;

"I made up my mind that if that promise was fulfilled, I would serve you for the rest of my life." She smiled, her expression one of pure joy.

"And you fulfilled your promise, just like you said you would. You saved all of my family and killed the soldiers after them."

"Because of you, I got to see them live a good life. And I’m grateful. I would not leave you just because I’m powerful now."

Lucian nodded subtly, a smile of satisfaction spreading on his face.

He looked at Sarah, seeing her exquisitely small frame, standing just at 5’6 and having a round face. She really did seem like a daughter.

"In this era, loyalty is a fickle thing. A lot of the vampires have gone rogue, and they don’t even know what’s coming." He drank the cup of blood entirely, wiping his lips.

Then he gestured for Sarah to come to him.

She moved closer, obeying his word.

After all these years, he was more like a father figure to her a lot of the time, and she adored him above any other person.

"I’ll adopt you. From now on, you’re no longer my servant, but my daughter." Lucian picked up the two cups, giving one to Sarah.

The young woman, who hadn’t seemed to have pure emotions, was suddenly smiling like a little girl.

At first, she was taken aback, but then she realized what he said. And when she did, he was already staring out the window.

She dashed towards him, hugging the king from behind.

Lucian smiled, looking into the distance. In his mind, he wondered whether he would see that man again—the one who was reborn as his brother.

All around him, he could feel the presence of vampires who were sleeping, while some were moving around or doing other procreational activities.

...

"Impossible," Rose mumbled, raising her hand to feel the warmth of the sun.

She turned to look at Dexter, who also stared at the sun and basked in its light freely. He could see the fascination on Rose’s face.

He remembered the time when he became a full daywalker by drinking Hannah’s blood. He felt glad to be able to be partially normal again.

"Hmmmm..." Rose looked at him with a smile, removing her blue hair from her face.

"What the hell are you looking at?" Dexter asked, staring at her now golden eyes.

"Oh, you know. I think it wasn’t a bad idea coming to you after all. You even fed me your blood, kehehehehe." She was wearing a simple brown blouse that definitely didn’t fit her, with shorts that were also right for her.

Now that he looked at her in these clothes, he knew that she was even more blessed with well-proportioned curves than an average person.

’Could it be because she’s a count?’ Dexter thought. Then his brows flared up as he saw Rose pulling the button of the blouse with a sly smile, revealing even more of her cleavage to him.

"Behave yourself if you don’t want to be burned alive," Dexter said with a smile, and that was when Rose felt a gaze behind her. She turned to see Hannah walking towards them.

’Huh? Just before now, I saw wings,’ Rose thought, looking at Hannah.

’Ah, I should have let it play out. She won’t die from being burned, right?’ He smirked.

"It’s time to go," Hannah spoke, walking past Rose and completely ignoring her.

’Ah, I see. No one wants to respect me after getting beat by that demon. How delightful, how strange.’ A red aura seeped from her body as she turned to see Hannah standing beside Dexter.

"I see witches don’t teach their peers to respect the counts." Rose’s claws extended and seeped a cold air.

Hannah felt it, and instantly she left Dexter and smiled at the blue-haired woman.

"I’m sorry, I was very confused. It’s nice to see you in shape and back on your feet again, Count Rose." Hannah said, nodding once at the count before turning back to Dexter.

"Tsk. I’ll take that." Rose pouted, looking down from the Sunwalker camp.

Immediately after she was healed by Dexter’s blood, she was brought here to familiarize herself with the vampires. But they were all too weak and out of her league.

Her ear twitched a bit as she looked at Hannah again, and she frowned.

"What do you mean you’re leaving? Where the hell are you going?" Rose asked, looking at Dexter as if he had betrayed her.

"It’s none of your business."
