Chapter 1436: Chapter 1437: Xiang Yu’s Heart-Wrenching Emotions

Cheng Wulan had no way to deal with Xiang Yu. She gritted her teeth and waved her fist at him from behind. If she wasn’t infatuated with him, she’d hit him right here.

The place had now turned into a ruin, with smoke still rising from some spots, clearly not fully burned.

Xiang Yu continually inspected every corner, his brow tightly furrowed.

Cheng Wulan followed closely behind Xiang Yu, her eyes reddened, almost on the verge of tears.

“What on earth happened here?” Cheng Wulan murmured to herself.

At this moment, Xiang Yu turned around, looking seriously at Cheng Wulan, and asked, “Is your friend part of the rebel army?”

Cheng Wulan quickly shook her head, replying, “No, she’s just a mercenary leader.”

“It can’t be that simple, can it?” Xiang Yu suspiciously stared at Cheng Wulan, but seeing her earnest expression, he knew she wasn’t lying.

That meant she actually wasn’t aware of the other person’s true nature.

“Why do you say she’s in the rebel army?” Cheng Wulan asked, puzzled as she looked at Xiang Yu.

“Those two soldiers are local ****, and there was a bombing here. Only **** could deploy aircraft,” Xiang Yu stated seriously.

Cheng Wulan was taken aback by this. If it was a **** attack, then the situation was more complicated.

But she’d known Zhong Min for so long and had never heard she was part of a rebel army.

Looking at the surrounding chaos, she suddenly felt like a fool who knew nothing.

“What should we do now?” Cheng Wulan asked Xiang Yu.

Her mind was blank, unsure of what to do next.

“If they’re not dead, they must have been captured,” Xiang Yu said earnestly.

At this point, he suddenly turned to Cheng Wulan and asked, “What’s your friend’s name?”

“Zhong Min.” Cheng Wulan answered without much thought, already considering Xiang Yu one of them.

Hearing the name, Xiang Yu couldn’t help but shudder. Although he’d already suspected it, hearing it confirmed was a different feeling.

So it was really her.

At that moment, memories from the past flashed through Xiang Yu’s mind. It was also on the hill ahead, at Fangcun Mountain.

He had met Zhong Min when he was injured. He had received meticulous care and had fallen in love for the first time in his life.

That feeling, even now, seemed unreal, like something only appearing in his dreams.

“What’s wrong with you?” Cheng Wulan exclaimed, seeing Xiang Yu staring off into space.

“Nothing, just feeling a bit hungry, thinking about where to get some food,” Xiang Yu casually replied.

Cheng Wulan gritted her teeth in anger and shouted, “At a time like this, can’t you be serious?”

Xiang Yu ignored her and continued surveying the surroundings, circling the entire area.

Cheng Wulan sat still, watching Xiang Yu wander around like a madman.

“Any findings?” Cheng Wulan asked when Xiang Yu approached.

“They’ve all been taken,” Xiang Yu simply stated.

“How do you know?” Cheng Wulan questioned doubtfully.

Suddenly, in front of Xiang Yu, she felt like an ignorant fool again.

“Don’t tell me you guessed.” Cheng Wulan quickly interjected as Xiang Yu was about to speak.

She now realized that if Xiang Yu guessed it, it was most probably true.

“I can predict, calculated it.” Xiang Yu said and started retracing his steps.

This place had lost its value to him now. His foremost desire was to rescue Zhong Min quickly.

“Where are we going?” Cheng Wulan chased after Xiang Yu.

“Going home to sleep,” Xiang Yu tersely replied.

He needed to act fast; if Zhong Min was really part of the rebel army, she would definitely face punishment by ****.

From those two soldiers earlier, it seemed these **** were not all very disciplined.

“Xiang Yu, stop right there.” Cheng Wulan finally couldn’t stay calm and shouted aloud.

Xiang Yu could hear the anger in Cheng Wulan’s voice and stopped.

“With Zhong Min captured, do you have any plan to rescue her?” Cheng Wulan asked softly.

She realized this was a task for Xiang Yu. Hiring another mercenary group wasn’t feasible; the cost was beyond her reach.

Attempting to save someone from a **** base, especially if they were part of the rebel army, might not just be impossible; just hearing the mission might scare others off.

Xiang Yu turned back, looking seriously at Cheng Wulan, “This is not something to rush; haste makes waste.”

Seeing Xiang Yu’s solemn expression, Cheng Wulan nodded. Indeed, it couldn’t be too rushed, otherwise, it would backfire, putting Zhong Min in danger.

“We better leave here quickly; otherwise, **** will arrive.” Xiang Yu remarked and began walking forward.

Cheng Wulan followed quickly. Those two **** earlier almost cost them their lives. If their forces came, both of them would be doomed.

As they got outside and drove away, helicopters began appearing in the sky.

Seeing this, Cheng Wulan was startled, and she stepped on the gas pedal, speeding forward.

Looking in the rearview mirror, she saw Xiang Yu lying in the back, resting. Suddenly, she felt a change in him.

They remained silent, each lost in their thoughts.

Cheng Wulan was worried about Zhong Min. If something happened to Zhong Min, she’d lose her best friend in the world.

Xiang Yu’s mind was blank. What should he think about? For years, he’d imagined meeting Zhong again.

Finally hearing news about Zhong Min, his heart couldn’t stay calm.

“Stop the car.” Xiang Yu suddenly said.

Cheng Wulan quickly pulled over. They had entered the city by then.

“You head back first.” Xiang Yu said, opening the door to step out, needing some time alone.

Cheng Wulan hurriedly jumped out, attempted to call out to Xiang Yu but saw him vanish quickly.

She had no idea what was going on with Xiang Yu, and then drove away herself.

When she returned to the base, something seemed off. A crowd gathered in front of her villa.

Looking closer, it was her mercenary group’s members.

They gathered around as Cheng Wulan’s car approached, eager to learn where their instructor and captain were after the mission.

Already in a foul mood, their presence worsened Cheng Wulan’s disposition.

The scene was chaotic, with calls for “brother,” “commander,” and “Lan sister.”

“Everyone be quiet,” Cheng Wulan suddenly exclaimed, immediately silencing the crowd.

Then someone stepped forward and said, “Commander Cheng, the instructor hasn’t returned, and we can’t train without them.”
