Chapter 1429 - 1430: Departure from the Orchid Mercenary Corps
"What do you mean?" Cheng Wulan frowned as she looked at Ivan.
"Half of the five billion I want is for you," Ivan said. "Cheng Wulan, I know you’re short on funds now. Otherwise, you would have already started recruiting and expanding. The opportunity is right in front of you; you better think it through."
Indeed, Cheng Wulan was short on funds. Most mercenaries are in it for the money. They work for an organization and participate in tasks when hired for money.
But the Orchid Mercenary Corps is still too small now, so there are few missions and therefore not much business. The mercenaries wouldn’t come on their own initiative.
If she had money, she could recruit and grow her force.
Twenty-five billion is an astronomical number for Cheng Wulan. If she had that money, it would mean a qualitative leap for their organization.
Xiang Yu stood there silently; after all, this matter was Cheng Wulan’s responsibility.
"I’m not like you, I’m not in it for the money," Cheng Wulan said coldly, clearly refusing.
Ivan was somewhat shocked by Cheng Wulan’s blunt response. He sneered and said, "You don’t like money? Then why did you start a mercenary group? Cheng Wulan, stop being so hypocritical."
Seeing that cooperation was impossible, Xiang Yu stepped forward and said, "Enough nonsense. Release the hostage now."
Ivan was unwilling, but there was nothing he could do now. Five billion flew away for nothing.
"Xiang Yu, this is all your fault. One day I will kill you," Ivan said viciously.
"That’s for another time, let’s talk about it then," Xiang Yu said indifferently.
"Hmph!"
Ivan let out a cold snort and then suddenly exerted force to try to finish off Xu Wanguan.
Seeing this, Xiang Yu rushed forward and kicked out.
Ivan was startled and then shoved Xu Wanguan forward.
Xu Wanguan lost his balance and stumbled forward.
Xiang Yu unhesitatingly kicked him in the chest again, causing Xu Wanguan to lose balance and fly backward.
At the same time, he spat out a mouthful of blood.
Xiang Yu originally intended to use the "hitting the cow through the mountain" technique to make Xu Wanguan hit Ivan, but Ivan saw through Xiang Yu’s intentions.
After throwing Xu Wanguan aside, Ivan didn’t linger and turned to run. He was no match for Xiang Yu, not to mention Xu Wanguan’s people were watching around like tigers eyeing their prey.
"Xiang Yu, you’ll regret what you’ve done today," Ivan said and then disappeared into the darkness.
In a corner of the darkness, Wang Li and Wen Shengbao were hiding and talking.
"What should we do now? Should we follow them?" Wen Shengbao asked Wang Li.
Wang Li shook his head and said, "There’s no need. Xiang Yu and his team will definitely escort that kid out; we have no chance."
"That bastard Xiang Yu, one day I’ll kill him," Wen Shengbao said through gritted teeth with hatred.
Xiang Yu seemed to be their nemesis, always ruining their plans.
"Let’s go find Instructor Yi," Wang Li said and then chased after Ivan.
Wen Shengbao thought for a moment and followed Wang Li.
Now that they had left the Orchid Group, he didn’t want to live a wandering life again. That kind of life was worse than death.
His body had just regained some resilience. If he wandered for a while, he’d be in for another round of injuries.
Besides, they both knew Ivan had a good reputation in the mercenary world. As long as they followed him, they’d eventually find a place to settle, even if this wasn’t the case here.
Ivan was run off by Xiang Yu and was fuming. Relying on his reputation in the mercenary world, he believed he’d eventually have a chance to make Xiang Yu pay.
Just then, he suddenly heard two people catching up behind him.
Ivan was startled; could it be that Xiang Yu was pursuing him? His first instinct was to quickly flee.
"Instructor Yi, don’t run, it’s us," Wang Li shouted from behind.
Seeing it was Wang Li and his companion, Ivan stopped himself. Their decision to leave him and run earlier was disappointing.
"You two have the nerve to come see me," Ivan steadied himself and said.
Wang Li awkwardly smiled and said, "Instructor Yi, we couldn’t beat them. Running was a strategy too."
Ivan let out a cold snort and said, "Now look, we have nothing. You better fend for yourselves."
Saying that, Ivan turned to leave. Although the five billion were gone, he could still join other mercenary groups as an instructor.
"Instructor Yi, don’t go. We’ve decided to follow you from now on; you’re always our instructor," Wang Li said with determination.
"No, I’m not your instructor anymore. We should go our separate ways; from now on, we’re strangers," Ivan wasn’t willing to mix with Wang Li and his group.
"Instructor, you’re our big brother from now on. Wherever you go, I’ll follow," Wang Li said firmly.
Ivan initially wanted to refuse but then thought having two followers was convenient; they could do chores like wash his underwear and socks.
Finally, he glanced at Wen Shengbao and reluctantly agreed. The three of them now had a common enemy and a common goal: to take down Xiang Yu.
On Xiang Yu’s side, he was standing next to Cheng Wulan.
Xu Wanguan sat for a while to recover. Xiang Yu’s kick almost did him in.
"You’re really ruthless," Xu Wanguan said through clenched teeth, pointing at Xiang Yu, clearly dissatisfied with the earlier kick.
"What, want another kick?" Xiang Yu replied with a cold smile.
Xu Wanguan shuddered and had someone help him up. He then looked at Cheng Wulan and said, "Your man hit me; forget about the other million."
Cheng Wulan was quite frustrated. She had rescued him. Without her and Xiang Yu, the other side would have lost five billion.
But now, her million was in jeopardy. Such people are truly exasperating.
Hearing this, Xiang Yu stepped forward and grabbed his collar.
The people around him wanted to act, but Xu Wanguan stopped them. He knew his men were no match for Xiang Yu and would only anger him further.
"This protection wasn’t free. The commission is ten million. Transfer it to us quickly, or I’ll personally come to collect," Xiang Yu said coldly.
Xu Wanguan began to regret his earlier words and forced a smile, "I spoke wrongly earlier, please forgive me. We’re all friends here; talking about money hurts emotions."
"You don’t need our forgiveness because we never blamed you," Xiang Yu said.
"Good to hear," Xu Wanguan laughed awkwardly.
"But you must send the money. Got it?" Xiang Yu poked Xu Wanguan with his finger.
Now Xu Wanguan could only nod with a bitter face. It seems some people should not be offended no matter what.
But it’s manageable; ten million is much simpler compared to five billion...
