Chapter 1423: Chapter 1424: Bridging Emotional Distance

Watching Wang Li and the others flee in a panic, Xiang Yu paid them no mind, instead driving the vehicle in the opposite direction.

At this moment, a man’s voice echoed inside the armored vehicle.

“Where did everyone go?”

“They must’ve been scared away.”

“It’s past midnight now, our mission is complete, let’s head back.”

“Number One, what’s your position?”

Xiang Yu now realized that the armored vehicle he was driving was Number One. Since his mission was also completed, there was no need to keep driving this beast.

Xiang Yu didn’t say a word, stopped the car, and ran alone towards the hotel.

Over at Wang Li’s side, he ran up to Ivan and, seeing no armored vehicles following them, felt a lot more at ease.

“Instructor, what you said earlier was disheartening.” Wang Li looked at Ivan, somewhat displeased.

Ivan snorted coldly, “Right now, I am the instructor, and I must consider the safety of all members. If you lead the armored vehicle here, who is responsible for the safety of the other brothers?”

Ivan’s words sounded righteous, and others nodded repeatedly. Some even looked at Wang Li with a hint of disdain.

Clearly, they were unhappy that Wang Li hadn’t considered their safety.

“Let’s not mention this anymore, the key is to find Xiang Yu quickly.” Ivan switched the topic promptly.

After speaking, the group hurried towards the hotel.

When they arrived near the hotel, it was already ten minutes past midnight. They initially planned to enter the hotel, but those black-clad figures stepped forward to block them.

“I just want to ask you, has Xu Wanguan arrived?” Ivan looked at the black-clad figure in front and asked.

The faces of those in black changed, knowing well that Xu Wanguan had indeed made a dazzling entrance earlier.

“You don’t need to know that.” The black-clad figure replied seriously.

Without the armored vehicle, the black-clad figures no longer feared Ivan and his group.

“You guys are fast.” Just then, Tie Zhuzi walked over from a distance and said.

Upon seeing Tie Zhuzi, Ivan knew that Xu Wanguan must already be inside the venue, leaving him with mixed feelings.

Protecting Xu Wanguan had been their primary mission, and yet, they had once again become the supporting characters.

Ivan looked around and, seeing no sign of Xiang Yu, felt somewhat relieved.

It seemed this mission wasn’t completed by Xiang Yu either.

Cheng Wulan also walked over and, a bit worried, looked at Ivan and asked, “Are you all safe?”

Ivan nodded, “No casualties.”

“That’s good.” Cheng Wulan said, quite happy.

Despite the complexity of this mission, fortunately, none of the brothers were hurt.

“Where’s Xiang Yu?” Ivan finally couldn’t help but ask.

Cheng Wulan didn’t want to undermine him—after all, he was still the coach of her Orchid Mercenary Corps, and she would need him to train her brothers.

“He’ll be back soon.” Cheng Wulan casually replied.

“Miss me after just a short while?” At this moment, Xiang Yu came over with a smile.

“Xiang Yu, you’re really late. It’s fifteen minutes past midnight, and you’re just arriving now. You’re pretty bad with time.” Wang Li stood aside and, thinking Xiang Yu just arrived, mocked.

“Just a habit.” Xiang Yu chuckled without defending himself since it was unnecessary.

Wen Shengbao stood aside, seeing that Xiang Yu didn’t refute, thought Xiang Yu was indeed late, and coldly snorted: “Some people just like to be lazy, often claiming credit for themselves; this time, he’s exposed.”

Wen Shengbao was referring to the last mission, where although they had suspicions, they couldn’t believe Kruse was killed by Xiang Yu.

Now that Xiang Yu arrived last, Wen Shengbao could finally taunt him.

“Enough, don’t argue.” Cheng Wulan worried they’d say something even worse, promptly stopped them.

They didn’t know the whole story, but Cheng Wulan was fully aware that if not for Xiang Yu, not only would Xu Wanguan, but she herself nearly lost her life.

She didn’t understand why Xiang Yu didn’t argue, only standing there with a smiling face.

“Since the mission’s complete, we don’t need to stay here. Let’s all head back.” Cheng Wulan casually said.

Their ultimate task was to ensure Xu Wanguan could attend the meeting smoothly; now that he’s inside, they could leave as well.

Hearing Cheng Wulan’s words, many finally breathed a sigh of relief, after an adventurous night, they could finally go back.

Now their cars were damaged, so they could only walk for the time being.

“Will you come back with me too?” Cheng Wulan looked at Xiang Yu and asked.

Now she began to value Xiang Yu; the strength he displayed made her see him in a new light.

Xiang Yu didn’t refuse and nodded in agreement.

With their mission finished, they wouldn’t concern themselves further.

A large group of people walking down the street was quite a sight, chatting and laughing, obviously happy.

Cheng Wulan intentionally stayed close to Xiang Yu, “With your capabilities, you should have a bigger stage.”

Xiang Yu smiled, “The stage is big enough already, I’ve never desired more.”

Cheng Wulan nodded, “Stick with me in the future, I won’t treat you poorly.”

Xiang Yu eagerly nodded, looking very loyal.

Seeing Cheng Wulan in a good mood was a good chance for him to get close, and so they chatted about everything under the sun.

Cheng Wulan didn’t expect Xiang Yu’s knowledge to be so broad, enjoying their conversation.

“Commander Cheng, among all these mercenary groups, you must be the first female leader?” Xiang Yu asked casually.

Cheng Wulan shook her head and laughed, “In the future, just call me by my name, it’s more comfortable for me to hear.”

“Alright then, Cheng Wulan.” Xiang Yu said straightforwardly.

Cheng Wulan smiled wryly, not expecting Xiang Yu to be so blunt, “Speaking of famous figures in the mercenary world, I know one; she’s also a woman.”

Xiang Yu’s heart raced but maintained a calm smile, “Oh, is there another woman more formidable than you?”

Cheng Wulan, flattered by his praise, blushed, “She’s my good sister, I often consult her opinions.”

“Who is she? Why haven’t I heard of her?” Xiang Yu asked curiously.

Cheng Wulan was about to speak but held back, looking at Xiang Yu with a smile, “Perhaps you’ll meet her in the future.”

She smiled and didn’t elaborate, showing she was cautious.

Xiang Yu didn’t press further, not wanting to raise Cheng Wulan’s suspicions.

“Wulan, I think you should head back to the hotel once more.” Xiang Yu quickly caught up with Cheng Wulan.

Hearing Xiang Yu’s friendly address, Cheng Wulan felt a ripple in her heart, while the people around were left speechless…
