Chapter 636 - 432: Pioneering the Tomb, Reaping Rich Rewards!

Fang Zhou, well-acquainted with the Undead Creatures Atlas, naturally knew that ghosts were an extremely rare Bronze-ranked undead creature.

If the creature from earlier had been a legitimate Bronze-rank ghost, Fang Zhou would have immediately called a retreat without a second thought, leading everyone as far away as possible. Then he would have called for the Sea City Military Academy’s instructor support group to launch a dimensional reduction attack on this Undead Tomb.

Fortunately, the feedback from his Soul Eagle Eye skill made Fang Zhou breathe a huge sigh of relief. Since he was in combat, he had kept Soul Eagle Eye active the entire time. Although he had only caught a fleeting glimpse of the creature, in the world revealed by his skill, the soul-light of the suspected ghost, while exceptionally bright, did not exceed the intensity of a Lower Black Iron creature.

This meant it was still only a Lower Black Iron undead creature. In a battle between opponents of the same tier, Fang Zhou had no fear.

Just then, Hong Yang hurried over from the other side, clutching a warhammer and a magic book. He was covered in white bone dust, clearly from a recent, fierce battle. "What happened? What’s going on?" he panted.

"Zhang Wu was just ambushed by a ghost and has temporarily lost his ability to cast magic," Liu Diewu replied. "We need to find that ghost and get rid of it. Otherwise, being repeatedly attacked by it in this tomb will only become more troublesome."

"Where is that ghost?" Hong Yang’s eyes darted around, but he saw nothing. "There’s nothing here—"

Before Hong Yang could finish, a piercing cold from behind made him clamp his mouth shut.

"Watch out, this thing can turn invisible!" Liu Diewu’s shout came a step too late.

A tall, hideous ghost appeared behind Hong Yang, a particularly vicious smile twisting its translucent face.

HISS!

The ghost’s withered arm, glowing with a ghastly green light, plunged fiercely toward Hong Yang’s spine. In the next moment, however, the venomous smile on its face froze. A bright holy radiance, solid as a rock, firmly blocked its ghostly claws. In the next instant, the ghost’s vision was filled by a warhammer bristling with spikes.

SMACK!

Hong Yang cursed as he brought the warhammer down, but it hit nothing. The ghost had vanished into thin air an instant before impact, completely unharmed.

"Damn it! How are we supposed to fight an enemy that’s invisible and can’t be hit?"

Cold sweat beaded on the battle-hardened Hong Yang’s forehead. As a Priest, he kept the holy radiance flowing relentlessly around his body. This would fend off the ghost’s ambushes, but it also consumed a large amount of mana. Even though Hong Yang was on the verge of breaking through to the Middle Rank of Black Iron, he couldn’t sustain it for long.

Besides, he wasn’t the ghost’s only target. An angry shout from another direction suddenly twisted into a shrill scream.

The ghost cackled grimly as it turned into a green light and vanished into the night once more. The Snake-man archer who had screamed stood frozen in place, the skin on his face and arms turning a bruised, bluish-black color. A companion touched his body, only to find the Snake-man had become as hard and cold as a block of ice. He was no different from the warriors they had found frozen to death!

The Snake-men of the Poison Fang Tribe cursed in panic. They finally understood how that group of Arm Movers they had passed earlier had died.

In the blink of an eye, another shrill scream pierced the air.

"Get lost, ghost!" The sound of rapid spellcasting accompanied a fierce shout as Fang Zhou, from a distance, raised his Undead Magic Ball and pointed. A solid Skeleton Armor dropped directly onto the ghost as it was absorbing its victim’s life energy.

The ghost’s expression turned to one of reluctance, but it was forced to abandon the student it had yet to kill. It retracted its ghastly green claws and vanished into thin air.

The ghost’s wild cackling came from all directions at once, erratic and making it impossible to pinpoint its location. Hong Yang and the other students nervously whipped their heads around, trying to spot the ghost the instant it reappeared.

However, Fang Zhou, the ghost’s most likely next target, showed no sign of panic. He sat firmly atop the Mutated Demon Swamp Frog, as motionless as a statue.

The ghost’s cackle rang out again. This time it was closer, the sound filled with an even more intense craving for flesh and blood.

A shiver went down Hong Yang’s spine, and he yelled frantically at Fang Zhou, "Fang Zhou, watch out! The ghost’s target is probably you!"

"It’s my target as well!" Fang Zhou replied, fearless. He suddenly pointed to his side, and a web of Skeleton Chains shot out to form a Skeleton Cage.

A piercing shriek erupted from the area enveloped by the Skeleton Cage as the ghost’s translucent body flickered into view.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Fang Zhou followed up with a Skeleton Heart-Piercing Flying Spear that precisely struck the location of the ghost’s Soul Fire.

The ghost struggled and shrieked repeatedly as its wounded body belched out large clouds of black smoke and green ghostly flames. For a moment, the damage from the Skeleton Heart-Piercing Flying Spear seemed to be suppressed by the smoke and flames, producing a violent sizzling sound, like water being thrown into a blazing fire.

Soon after, however, Fang Zhou landed another accurate Skeleton Shock Wave. This time, the damage finally surpassed the limit of what the ghost could endure.

The ghost’s most troublesome traits were its ability to appear and disappear without warning and its power to lurk invisibly as a spirit body.
