Chapter 864: The Final Mercy
Chapter 864: The Final Mercy
"Do you have amnesia or something?" Hailey Hale casually added, "I said, Finn and I will stay with you, your parents can go back and rest!""Who wants you here?" Melissa retorted.
"I’m eager to stay with you, alright?" Hailey wasn’t angry at all.
Claudia was still immersed in infinite sorrow, unable to lift her spirits, gazing at her daughter with reluctance. A month from now, will she really not be seeing her again?
"Mom, what’s wrong?" Melissa noticed something was on her mind, feeling perplexed, "I’m awake now, haven’t lost my memory, or thought about suicide anymore. Shouldn’t you be happy? Why the long face?"
"Happy, happy, mom is happy." Claudia tried to adjust her mood, "It’s good you’re awake." Her lips curved slightly.
Zachary Merce also showed a smile, "Then we’ll head out? Just let Finn and Hailey stay with you, since having them around makes you happier than having me and your mom with you."
"Just focus on getting better!" Hailey Hale said carefreely, "Don’t think about anything else."
Melissa teased, "Seeing you gives me a headache." She just wanted Finn alone with her.
"As if I really want to see you." Hailey retorted, then poured her a glass of water, "Drink up, don’t choke."
When the Monroe Family elders stepped out, Finn also escorted them out, and shortly after, Hailey came out too.
This was the first time the four of them saw each other since learning of Melissa’s terminal illness.
Claudia secretly wiped her tears, with sadness that couldn’t be expressed.
Zachary Merce’s spirit was lacking too, his brow tightly furrowed, a giant sorrow enveloping them, "Perhaps this is fate? Ultimately, death..."
"Auntie, let’s make this month joyful for her," Finn suggested, "Keep the illness from her, maybe her mental burden won’t be so heavy."
"Finn..." Claudia looked up at him, begging, "Could you stay with her a bit longer? Only when she sees you is she truly happy."
"No problem at all." Hailey Hale was very kind. She held onto Finn’s arm, "But how should we spend this month meaningfully? We need to discuss it."
"Let her be discharged, the hospital is too depressing." This was Zachary’s suggestion, "Wait until she recovers a bit, then see what the doctors say."
Claudia was hopeless, "Even Dr. Shelby is uncertain, so there’s definitely no hope. You have to get a check-up every year, this can’t be skipped. Once discovered it’s already late-stage... it’s too late for anything."
"You should also prepare yourselves mentally." Finn advised, "I’ve researched, late-stage lung cancer can take one unexpectedly, without warning."
Upon hearing this, Claudia’s tears rolled down again, turning to lean against Zachary and cried aloud.
"Uncle, Auntie, you head back for a day’s rest, Hailey and I will stay with her. If everyone stays, it might make her suspicious, so we can’t be overly anxious about her."
The news quickly reached the Morgan family, Everett Morgan and Jasmine were all very remorseful, shocked, and regretful.
They unanimously believed Finn should stay with her again and called Finn to instruct him—
"Melissa’s life is now in countdown; the Monroe family and Morgan family have been close for generations. To Melissa, you’re like a spiritual pillar, so spend this month well with her."
"You have compassion for strangers, let alone a girl who loves you? This girl once saved my life."
"Finn, you must handle this well, can’t let Hailey down, accompany Melissa as much as possible, don’t let this be a regret."
"I understand, mom." Finn took the call in the hospital hallway, pulling Hailey beside him, putting the phone on speaker.
The words his mother just said were all heard by Hailey.
