Chapter 849: Bitten
Chapter 849: Bitten
"You..."Claudia was at a loss for words but had no strength to retort, as she was so angry it hurt her chest.
Finn Morgan held Hailey Hale’s hand, interlocking their fingers tightly. He said sincerely, "Auntie, we’ll stay here with her tonight. You and Uncle should get some rest; Dr. Shelby will surely have a way to help her."
"As long as Cindy doesn’t wake up, don’t even think of leaving here! Don’t rely solely on Dr. Shelby; this is your responsibility!"
Claudia couldn’t stand seeing him with another girl, especially in front of Melissa, and even holding hands with interlocked fingers!
But she had no reason to stop them.
Zachary Merce supported his grief-stricken wife and said to Finn and Hailey, "If anything happens to Melissa, you both will be responsible, so you better think it over!"
Hailey was baffled, thinking what does this have to do with her! Is it really true that the vulnerable are always right?
The two elders left, closing the door behind them.
The calmness on Hailey Hale’s face slowly faded away. She released Finn’s hand, immediately showing a sense of detachment!
Finn quickly looked over, "Thank you, Hailey."
"Stop talking to me." Hailey Hale went over to a nearby chair, sat down, and opened a bottle of banana milk, "You go wake her up. I won’t help with that; I’m just keeping you company."
Finn kept his eyes on her; even her jealous looks were quite cute, "I’m sorry for putting you in this awkward situation."
Hailey ignored him and didn’t respond.
Finn walked towards her, "Thank you for buying me bread. I really hadn’t had time to eat dinner."
The girl turned around, her back facing him, took a sip of banana milk, really not intending to pay any attention to him. Hmph, did he think she was that easy to talk to?
"How did you get here?" Finn asked again, "Did you see Jocelyn? Did she tell you everything?"
Hailey Hale continued eating the bread and drinking her milk, as if she hadn’t heard a word he said.
Why did this girl seem like she’d become a different person?
Finn moved closer, squatted down in front of her, tore off a piece of bread from the bag, and offered it to her lips, "Thank you for understanding me, silly girl."
Hailey finally glanced at him, then opened her mouth and bit his finger!
Finn winced in pain but wore a smile, grateful to finally get a reaction.
"As long as you’re not angry, bite away." His finger hurt, but his heart felt sweet. "Even if you break it, it’ll be a beautiful imperfection you created. I promise I won’t consult Dr. Shelby."
Hailey bit down hard, and he really didn’t resist.
When she found it boring, she let go, panting as she glared at him, "Why didn’t you resist?"
Finn’s finger bore a deep imprint, but he immediately held her hand and said without anger, "Hailey, as long as you’re not angry, I’ll do anything."
Hailey didn’t reply.
Finn explained to her, "Melissa got hit while saving my mom; I’ve investigated, and it’s not her scheme; it was an accident."
The girl withdrew her hand from his palm, "Then marry her, redeem yourself."
"That’s not what I mean."
"Then be honest, speak up if there’s something on your mind. I ran into this out of the blue, what do you expect me to think?" Hailey Hale asked, "After Jocelyn explained everything to me, couldn’t I also understand? What’s the point of hiding something so minor? Do I seem like someone who can’t keep things to themselves?"
"I didn’t want to hide it from you." He answered honestly, "I planned to go back to Riventhal tomorrow to tell you face-to-face."
"Alright, alright, no more explanations." Hailey Hale decided for him, "Starting tomorrow, you work here! I’ll stay with you, and whenever Dr. Shelby cures her, that’s when we leave."
