Chapter 788: Slander
Chapter 788: Slander
"Oh, it’s just that a few strangers have come to the bar recently," the woman responded a bit sullenly, "It gives me a bad feeling."Lydia Ingram, who had been tense all along, let out a sigh of relief, his face cold and stern, "Isn’t that normal? You run a bar."
He felt the woman deliberately made excuses to get him to come over, and he was very displeased inside!
"The bar isn’t new, can’t I tell whether they’re customers?" The woman stopped in front of him, wrapped her arms around his neck, and said coyly, "I just feel they’re very unusual, you have to believe that women’s sixth sense is strong."
"Just being paranoid." Lydia Ingram said unhappily, pulling her hands off his neck.
"Don’t go!" She hugged his waist tightly, burying her face deeply into his chest, as if she was terrified of losing him, "You haven’t stayed overnight at my place for a long time, can you not leave tonight? Since you’re already here!"
Lydia Ingram didn’t address her request, but instead asked, "Why did Monica Usher want to kill you back then?"
The question made the woman’s heart skip a beat! Her eyes flickered with guilt.
She lifted her gaze from his embrace, asking cautiously, "Did that girl say something to you?"
The man’s gaze shifted downward, his face stern as he waited for her answer.
Compared to this clingy old mother, he preferred the alluring figure of the daughter, and the daughter was like a wild, unruly mare, always making him interested in the challenge.
Grace White had a strong capacity for improvisation; though she was actually a bit flustered inside, she still appeared calm.
She sighed, speaking with disappointment, "She’s not my biological child, just an ungrateful brat. I worked so hard to raise her, and she doesn’t have an ounce of gratitude."
"Get to the point." Lydia Ingram was a straightforward person, lacking the patience to listen to her nonsense.
To cover up her own nature, Grace White kept throwing dirt on Monica Usher, "She fooled around with some wild man during her school years instead of studying. As her mother, I just disciplined her, but it triggered her rebellious nature, harboring the intention to kill me."
Lydia Ingram listened, but his emotions remained unchanged.
Grace White observed his expression, unable to discern whether he believed her or not.
Perhaps it didn’t matter whether he believed or not, he was just casually asking.
"Forget it, let’s not bring up past things, it’s just heartbreaking." She sighed again, inquiring, "How is she doing at your company? Wasn’t she a vice president at The Kingston Group before?"
That’s what Grace White found out later; she kept guarding the bar every day, and since her daughter had renamed herself and changed so much, it was impossible to recognize her.
After all, she was so ruthless at a young age, and if she gained power as she grew up and found out her mother was still alive, who knows what terrible things she might do.
Grace White was afraid of Monica Usher; narrowly escaping death had become her lifelong shadow.
Monica Usher was also afraid of Grace White, afraid she would report her to the police.
They both had different fears, and neither had lived well over the years.
"Lydia... how are things between you and Monica Usher?" She meant in terms of the superior-subordinate relationship, as she didn’t know they were together.
But Lydia Ingram heard it as a different implication.
He was puzzled, only Joe knew about this, how did she know?
However, he had no intention of answering such a boring question.
His business was none of Grace White’s concern; she was just his pawn, a subordinate!
"Stay, will you?" Grace White pleaded, "You haven’t accompanied me in a long time. I’ve done so much for you, even if not meritoriously, surely laboriously."
Just as she finished speaking, she reached out to unbutton his shirt...
