Chapter 407 - 219 Naga
Chapter 407 - 219 Naga
The currents in the passage ahead grew increasingly turbulent. The way they surged no longer resembled anything on the open sea. Instead, it was like rapids in a mountain gorge below a waterfall; surrounding waves constantly smashed against each other, flowing rapidly forward. On the sea, the Sound of Dawn pitched and rolled violently, occasionally tossed into the air by a wave, only to slam back down. This violent motion made everyone onboard quite uncomfortable. The ship’s sturdiness was truly being tested.
"We’re almost there! Everyone, hang on!" Alka shouted, his waist secured by a rope.
They had been navigating these turbulent currents for the better part of the day. It had been like this since before daybreak.
"Why are these currents getting so much stronger?" Jason couldn’t help but shout.
"Didn’t I just tell you?" Chadite yelled from nearby. "The passage is narrowing on both sides! All that seawater is being squeezed as it flows through, forcing it to churn and collide. That’s why the currents here are like this." He then added, "This also means we’re getting closer to the gate!"
"Look ahead! Look ahead!" Lucilia shouted, secured by ropes and hanging in mid-air.
Everyone turned to look.
An unbelievable sight unfolded before them.
They saw... the boundary of the world.
High in the sky, at the very edge of their vision, two vertical, wall-like cleavages in space plunged downwards. They didn’t know how to describe these cleavages. Their surfaces shimmered with an extraordinary array of colors, yet they also seemed transparent, almost colorless. They were clearly there, yet somehow indistinct. As the sun’s rays struck them, they began to reflect light, making them all the more indescribable.
Though it was the first time they had ever seen such a phenomenon, their minds instantly identified them as cleavages in space itself. This was the boundary of the world.
As their speed increased, the boundaries, once distant on either side, drew closer, narrowing the passage. The seawater below surged even more violently, and the surrounding waves crashed relentlessly. Water thrown up by the impacts rained down continuously on the deck. These so-called raindrops were the size of fists, some even as large as human heads. They hammered down on their heads and bodies, each impact sending a jolt of pain.
Thankfully, the Sound of Dawn was sturdy enough; otherwise, the colossal waves and raging currents would have smashed it to pieces. Perhaps this was the final trial the forward passage presented to all who sought to reach the Endless Sea.
Their attention was inevitably drawn to the sides. The world’s boundary was now so close it seemed to cleave the entire sky in two from top to bottom. They couldn’t see what lay beyond the boundary. Looking through it, they still saw blue sky, yet it subtly shifted and changed with the fluctuating colors of the boundary itself. It all seemed like an illusion.
The two boundaries pressed inwards, forcing the massive volume of water from the once-wide passage into this narrow channel. With the boundaries now flanking them on either side, it was as if they could glimpse a starry sky through them. This was a visual experience created by the shifting nature of the boundaries. Two expanses of starry sky seemed to flank the blue sky between them—a bizarre vista that seared itself into their vision. A sight like this, they would likely never forget for the rest of their lives; it would be etched deeply into their very souls.
"There’s something there!" Julia suddenly exclaimed, her eyes widening.
Everyone immediately grew vigilant, scanning their surroundings, but they saw nothing.
A fierce gust of wind swept over them once more. This time, the gust carried an immense amount of Magic Power, so dense they could clearly see it. This Magic Power stained the wind a blue-green hue, imbuing it with the colors of the Elements. As the wind tore past them, it left small cuts on their skin from which drops of blood trickled. Fortunately, although infused with Magic Power, the Wind Blades within the gale were still minuscule. They could only slice through the surface of their skin. Such injuries were minor.
"The Magic Power concentration in these gales is too high!" Julia shouted.
As the gale subsided, a torrent of pure Magic Power, like another wind, washed over them. Previously, it had been a gale laced with Magic Power. Now, it was a torrent of Magic Power carrying gusts of wind within it. The concentration of Magic Power was so intense it even seemed to displace the oxygen in the air, making their breathing rapid and shallow. The Runes on the ship began to glow automatically, energized by the immense Magic Power, as if someone were channeling energy into them to activate them.
Likewise, this gale of Magic Power arrived as quickly as it departed, passing over them completely in little more than ten seconds. Yet, from its mere passage over them, everyone could distinctly feel a slight increase of Magic Power within their Spirals.
What terrifyingly dense Magic Power!
"I never imagined I’d one day be tossed into the sky by Magic Power as if it were the wind itself," Alka said as he descended from above, landing steadily on the deck.
"Elemental creatures!" Julia shouted. She finally realized what the strange presence she had sensed nearby earlier was.
As her words fell, the raindrops plummeting from the sky transformed into currents of Water Element. These currents formed two whips of Water Element that lashed out, attacking them. However, before the others could react, Julia, wielding her Ice Crystal Blade, unleashed two immense blasts of Cold Sword Qi.
