Chapter 402 - 217: Human Body and Snake Tail_2
The mysterious girl’s forehead began to bead with sweat, her brow furrowing tightly.
It seemed the healing wasn’t as easy for her as she had claimed.
Soon, she exhaled heavily.
A faint CRACK echoed.
The charred skin on Pororo’s body started to peel off like wall paint, revealing the brand-new body underneath.
Alka was certain that when they had examined him just moments before, the flesh beneath his skin was indeed severely injured.
How did a new layer of skin grow back so quickly?
Once she was satisfied with the new skin underneath, the young girl began to gently pick at the old layer with her slightly sharp, slender fingernails.
Piece by piece, fragments of skin fell off.
A clear smile and a look of relief appeared on her face.
Beneath the charred skin fragments, the gray shark skin Pororo once had was revealed.
As all the skin pieces were removed, Pororo’s current skin was exposed to everyone. His skin was no longer as it had been; it had visibly changed.
There were lightning-like patterns across the skin, spreading from his spine towards his sides. This seemed to be a side effect from Pororo’s lightning trial.
The mysterious girl was still muttering. What was she saying?
After she finished speaking, Lucilia translated, "She said Pororo successfully passed the final trial and gained the power of the storm. Even without her healing, Pororo would have gradually regrown his skin over time and eventually recovered to his peak condition. She merely accelerated this process, sparing Pororo from having to endure such a painful ordeal."
Hearing this, Alka nodded, then said, "Thank her for us, for lending a helping hand. Although we don’t know why she did this, if there’s anything she needs help with, or anything she requires, please tell us. Also, apologize for our earlier rude behavior."
Lucilia nodded, relaying Alka’s words verbatim, then bowed in apology.
The mysterious girl waved her hands, looking a little flustered. What was she saying so hastily? Lucilia continued to communicate with her.
A short while later, Pororo, who was lying on the bed, suddenly opened his eyes wide and sat bolt upright. This sudden movement seemed to tug on some remaining wounds on his body, causing a pained expression to flicker across his face, but it quickly faded.
Pororo then raised his hands, looking at the lightning patterns covering his arms, and smiled.
"Hahaha, I finally passed all the trials!"
Then he looked at some dust on his body and the black, hardened pieces that had fallen off beside him. He picked one up and sniffed it.
"What is this stuff? Don’t you guys ever clean the infirmary? It’s disgusting," Pororo, who had almost never been to the infirmary, said with a bit of disdain.
Hearing this, the others, who had initially been worried, now felt their temples throb with exasperation.
Before they could speak, Pororo turned his head and was startled by the nearby girl of an unfamiliar race. He instantly scrambled off the bed to the floor, becoming vigilant.
"Alright, Pororo, you should thank her. She saved you," Alka said from the side.
"Saved me?" Pororo asked, pointing at himself in confusion. Then he checked his body and saw no scars or signs of treatment. "Was something wrong with me?"
Alka looked at him with a helpless expression and said, "You underwent the so-called final trial in that storm, receiving a baptism of Thunder. Your entire body was charred by lightning, and you were severely injured."
"Really?" Pororo asked doubtfully. He hadn’t actually lasted till the end; he had lost consciousness before even leaving the storm, though his body had apparently continued to endure.
Alka finished speaking and pointed to the blackened husks on the ground. "That’s all your skin that was burned earlier."
"So this stuff was my skin?" he remarked casually, unconcerned.
Then he turned to the girl of an unfamiliar race nearby and bowed. "Thank you. Thank you for healing me."
Although the mysterious girl didn’t understand what Pororo was saying, she seemed to grasp from his demeanor that he was expressing gratitude, and quickly waved her hands.
"What’s she saying? I can’t understand," Pororo said, tilting his head slightly.
"Don’t worry," Alka said. "I can’t understand her either."
After this, the mysterious girl exchanged a few words with Lucilia before leaving the infirmary, swimming out the door. Lucilia quickly followed, with the others trailing immediately behind.
This serpent-tailed girl arrived on the deck, said something to Lucilia, waved to everyone, and leaped into the sea, disappearing.
"Hey! How did she just leave like that? We didn’t even properly thank her," Jason said from behind.
A verbal thanks was hardly adequate for the kindness she had shown in healing Pororo. They were still contemplating how to properly repay her—perhaps by inviting her to share a meal, or at least getting to know her.
"It’s so rare to find a doctor. It would have been great to keep her on the ship," Chadite remarked from the side, watching the girl depart.
Alka, hearing this, was suddenly reminded of the girl’s quick departure.
"She said she had to return, or her people would worry about her," Lucilia said from the side.
