Chapter 563 - 562: I Want Status (Part 1)

Ji Rui’s body stiffened, and his arms around her uncontrollably pulled her into his embrace, as if only satisfied after embedding her into himself."What did you say?"

It’s not that he didn’t want it, nor was he unhappy; rather, the happiness was so sudden, he thought he must have misheard.

You must know, getting Le Tong to accept him had already taken him tremendous effort, and the period from being in a relationship to becoming mutually affectionate had undergone several months of testing. It was only the other day that he officially got a taste of it. This gradual step-by-step process had wrongly led him to think convincing her to marry him might take longer than expected.

Even though from the moment he confessed, he wanted to brand her with a "Ji Rui Property" stamp, to respect her feelings and to show his own sincerity in respecting her wishes, he didn’t dare suggest marriage to her despite it lingering in his mind for some time.

He feared her aversion, feared she would retreat to her turtle shell at being displeased.

Ji Rui’s half-believing expression made Le Tong both annoyed and amused.

She pulled away slightly, tilted her head at him with a playful smile, "What? I’ve given you a child, and you’ve had your fill of me. Now you want to renege?"

Of course, this was never Le Tong’s true thoughts.

She just knew Ji Rui too well. If this smart man sensed her sudden urge to marry, the marriage might just not happen.

"I won’t!" Ji Rui held her waist, leaned over, and gently kissed her nose.

"Even if you hadn’t given me a child, nor had I had my fill of you, as long as it’s you, I would like to be responsible."

He used the word "like," not "would."

"Like" signifies initiative.

"Would" is passive, carrying somewhat a hint of resignation.

Receiving the expected answer, Le Tong gazed at him with satisfaction, "Hmm... that’s more like it..."

Ji Rui lowered his head and captured her lips, kissing her until she was breathless before sitting with her on the bed’s edge, "Would you like a Chinese or Western wedding? Something romantic like Yuan’er’s?"

Ji Rui placed his chin lightly on top of Le Tong’s head, softly seeking her opinion.

Le Tong turned her body, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"What Chinese or Western? Romantic and lavish? I want the title, you fool!"

Generally, every woman dreams of an unforgettable wedding. But for Le Tong, preparing for a wedding would take too long, and by the time she walked down the aisle, the Ji Family could be heavily burdened.

Therefore, rather than the vanity of a wedding, what Le Tong wanted more was the tangible relationship status marriage could provide.

"In such a hurry, huh?" Ji Rui, now in a playful mood, smiled mischievously at her.

Le Tong, usually thin-skinned, could care less about embarrassment at this point.

"Yes! I’m in a rush, tomorrow first thing we get the certificate, don’t be late, dare you?"

More importantly, she couldn’t let him discern the reason for her proposing.

Ji Rui’s eyes sparkled with amusement, as he rubbed his forehead against hers, "Honestly, wasn’t brave enough before..."

Seeing Le Tong widen her eyes in a glare, he slowly continued, "But if I lose my wife, whom would I cry to?"

Le Tong rolled her eyes and snorted, "That’s not my business. Whether you go or not, it’s up to you!"

With that, she reached for the clothes thrown on the bed, intending to push him away and take a shower. This man was too shrewd; she worried that speaking more would reveal her plans.

Her only concern was being found out, forgetting that in love, who could maintain clarity?

Ji Rui, giddy with joy and happiness, wasn’t willing to let her go.

He turned her over, pressing her onto the bed, his bright eyes fixed on her, "How about we go right now?"

This wasn’t a joke from Ji Rui; he truly feared that Le Tong might change her mind. To prevent any uncertainty, the best solution was to get the certificate immediately.

Le Tong laughed, "Mr. Ji, are you losing your mind? It’s late at night, who’s going to process it for you?"

Ji Rui buried his head against her neck, nibbling gently, "But if you change your mind tomorrow, what then?"

Le Tong thought, don’t worry, I won’t. Thinking that in her heart, the words actually spilled from her mouth.

"Don’t worry, I won’t go back on my word."

Yet, Ji Rui, even more excitedly buried his face in her neck, mumbling, "No, I must leave a mark, lest you cheat!"

Le Tong, feeling ticklish and numb, instinctively defended herself with hands and feet, "Mr. Ji, stop it, I need to shower."

Ji Rui, pushed away several times, indeed stopped teasing. He propped himself up to look at her.

"Okay, I’ll stop!"

Le Tong hadn’t even had a chance to breathe a sigh of relief before being lifted by Ji Rui.

"I’ll help you!"

Initially, Le Tong didn’t get it, help? With what?

Only when Ji Rui carried her to the bathroom did she realize the cost of asking this man for "help" was enormous.

...

Le Tong was awakened the next day by Ji Rui’s kisses.

"Baby, it’s time to get up." The cool lips, with a hint of mint, brushed against hers.

Le Tong nuzzled against his chest a few times, then wriggled out, stretching her body slightly.

Compared to that night in Beijing, Ji Rui was more restrained last night, and she felt refreshed with only a trace of soreness lingering, but much milder than last time.

"What time is it?" Her mind still foggy, Le Tong was stuck on thoughts of needing to prepare breakfast, take Baobao to school, and head to work herself.

"Eight o’clock..."

Le Tong was startled, getting up quickly.

"That late? Baobao will be late!"

"No need to rush, Xiao Li has already taken Baobao and Chairman Yang for breakfast at the restaurant."

Le Tong then remembered Old Master, "Oh..."

As she headed to the washroom, Ji Rui called out to her back, "Once you’re done, we’ll head out, the timing should be perfect."

As Le Tong put toothpaste on her toothbrush, it took her a few moments before her brain caught up with what happened last night.

Suddenly, "Ding"—she realized what time Ji Rui meant as just right.

But Ji Rui was indeed foresighted. With breakfast resolved in the car, they arrived at the civil affairs bureau as it opened.

"Excuse me, sir, madam, you are the first couple of the day. May I ask, have you brought all the necessary documents?"

Le Tong hesitated momentarily, because her impulse to propose to Ji Rui yesterday came after some words from Old Master. The proposal succeeded, and she intended to get the certificate first thing this morning.

However, she forgot to verify what documents they needed to bring. She only had her ID card on her.
