Chapter 539 - 538 That Girl is Not Stupid (Part 1)
When Ji Rui and Yang Sheng returned to the mansion after the banquet, they heard the Old Master say that Le Tong and the two children were resting in the guest room and had agreed to stay over tonight. Neither of them showed any change in expression, as if they had already expected Le Tong to agree."Aren’t you afraid I might use some underhanded method to force her to stay?"
The Old Master looked at the two similarly aged, equally outstanding young men sitting at opposite ends of the sofa, leisurely sipping coffee, seemingly unsurprised or uncurious about Le Tong’s reaction.
Yang Sheng bent down, placed the cup on the coffee table, and looked at the Old Master amused.
"Grandpa, would you dare? Besides, do you think Tongtong would pay attention to you?! I’m curious, what tragic tale did you tell Tongtong?"
The Old Master’s mouth twitched slightly as his secret was hit upon, and he raised a brow, "When did I ever use those melodramatic tactics like the old ladies to gain sympathy?"
Yang Sheng shrugged, "Whether you did or not, you know it yourself, no need to tell me!"
With that, he stood up and headed towards the kitchen.
"Rui, are you hungry? The chef at our house makes amazing Chinese snacks, want to try some?"
"Sure!" Ji Rui responded succinctly.
As Yang Sheng slipped into the kitchen, the Old Master’s sharp gaze fell on Ji Rui.
"Why haven’t you married the girl yet?"
This time, the person Uncle Jing found quickly delivered detailed information about Le Tong from the past years into the Old Master’s hands.
Apart from the secret of Baobao’s birth not appearing in the data, everything else, including confirming her biological father was indeed called Le Ming, including Nuonuo not being biological but adopted, of course, also including Le Tong and Ji Rui’s non-married status.
Ji Rui did not compromise in the slightest politeness towards the elderly before him, even if he might be Le Tong’s grandfather.
"That’s between her and me."
The implication being, the matter between me and her is none of your concern!!
In the past, the Old Master Yang’s feelings towards this young man Ji Rui were complex. On one hand, there was admiration for the youngster, yet on the other, he resented him for taking away his favorite grandson, thus, he hated him greatly, with hatred exceeding admiration overall.
Upon knowing Le Tong might be his granddaughter, his gaze at Ji Rui naturally added an extra layer of critique.
Although today was the first time he met Le Tong, years of yearning for his youngest son coupled with guilt made him place great importance on Le Tong as a potential granddaughter.
Therefore, he was even more critical of Ji Rui as a possible grandson-in-law. Saying he was picking bones out of an egg wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
Especially seeing in the investigation report that the young man from the Ji Family hadn’t given his granddaughter a proper title yet, that matter greatly infuriated the Old Master!
He felt the people of Old Yang Family were bullied by the Ji Family folks, and the slap wasn’t aimed at someone else’s face but was instead a hard slap on his own old face.
Thinking about maintaining his image in front of his granddaughter, the Old Master finally suppressed his anger, patiently chatted with Ji Rui, only to receive such a dismissive reply.
The Old Master, whose fingers were clasped on the back of the sofa, again forcibly suppressed the sudden surge of anger within, trying hard to look a bit congenial.
"Then when are you planning to get married?"
Ji Rui stared at him expressionless, "No comment!"
Although the Old Master might be Le Tong’s grandfather, the identification results have yet to come out, haven’t they? Is this Old Master already trying to seize control of him and Le Tong? Does he want to control them both, like he did with Yang Sheng?
Ji Rui had no respect for this Old Master. If it weren’t for Yang Sheng, he wouldn’t think he shared any connection with this outdated old man.
Added that previously, due to Yang Sheng’s relationship, he had been oppressed by this Old Master quite a bit.
Of course, those were old matters he didn’t want to bring up anymore.
However, his and Le Tong’s matter is private between the two of them, even if the Old Master might be Le Tong’s biological grandfather, he didn’t provide any nurturing tranquility to Le Tong, why does he want to reach out and control him and Le Tong?
The Old Master was so angry with Ji Rui’s arrogant attitude and words that he nearly flipped the table, fortunately, Yang Sheng came out with a tray of delicious snacks, thus averting the storm between the Old Master and Ji Rui.
"Sheng boy, take some time to care about that girl, Tongtong, don’t be foolishly bullied and unknowingly taken advantage of greatly!"
The Old Master’s direct targeting of Ji Rui’s actions made Yang Sheng glance deeply at Ji Rui.
Did these two discuss something remarkable in the few minutes he left?
Ji Rui, however, had no intention to defend himself, accepting the tray Yang Sheng offered and calmly began eating a piece of snack.
"Grandpa, you don’t need to worry about this, Tongtong is not foolish; she manages her own affairs sensibly."
Clearly, Yang Sheng also thought the Old Master was overly meddling!
Simultaneously, he also made his stance clear that in the camp standing battle between Le Tong and the Old Master, he stood on Le Tong’s side.
"Boy, is that how you act as a Brother?" The Old Master glared at Yang Sheng and scolded him fiercely.
Yang Sheng rolled his eyes and kindly reminded the elderly, "Grandpa, the identification results won’t be out until tomorrow!"
The Old Master cast another glare at him, "That girl’s temperament is just like your uncle’s, saying she’s not Weikang’s offspring, I wouldn’t believe it!"
Yang Sheng clicked his tongue, "Grandpa, you’ve formally retired anyhow, with nothing much tomorrow, why don’t you put on sunglasses and set up a booth to tell fortunes!"
Though Yang Sheng virtually believed Le Tong’s biological father was his most beloved uncle, he wouldn’t echo a single point from the Old Master until conclusive evidence was laid bare.
Firstly, he feared the greater the Old Master’s hope, the greater his disappointment would be.
Secondly, he was wary of Le Tong’s aversion.
Families like the Yang Family, indeed many tried all sorts of ways to associate themselves with them, but many of these people didn’t include Le Tong.
In this matter, he understood better than anyone else.
"Grandpa, before the identification results come out, you’d better not show that attitude in front of Tongtong!" Yang Sheng leaned in to the Old Master and quietly reminded him.
Here, the two engaged in a playful banter, while Ji Rui was unaffected by the Old Master’s words, calmly drinking coffee and enjoying his snacks, neither his mood nor appetite was affected in the slightest.
"Rui, have your tickets been rescheduled?"
Yang Sheng suddenly remembered that the flight tickets for Ji Rui and the others’ return journey were for early tomorrow morning.
Ji Rui glanced at him, "No."
The Old Master, upon hearing this, quickly called out to Uncle Jing, "Ah Jing, hurry and get it done."
Ji Rui, however, stopped Uncle Jing who was about to turn hurriedly, "Uncle Jing, no need to change them; we must return tomorrow."
