Chapter 503 - 502: Will love her more and more (Second update)
Looking at the circle of bright bracelets snugly wrapped around Le Tong’s wrist, Ji Rui felt immensely cheerful. When they got home, after they each took a shower, Le Tong first sent Baobao to bed, then urged him to go to sleep early. Initially having a pile of work to do, he unusually didn’t put up much resistance and obediently went back to the bedroom to sleep. On Sunday morning, Le Tong secretly got up at dawn, tinkering in the kitchen for hours. By the time Ji Rui and Baobao got up at their usual time, washed up, and stretched lazily walking out of the bedroom, the whole house was filled with the aroma of dumplings.
Like a race, Baobao and Ji Rui each gobbled down several bowls. Le Tong had Aunt Guan pack up the dumplings prepared but not yet cooked into boxes, asking the driver to send them to the grand mansion for Mr. Ji to taste.
Although it was Sunday, both Ji Rui and Le Tong had work to do. With Baobao’s consent, Le Tong had the driver also take the little guy back to the grand mansion.
On the way back to the Ji Family, Ji Rui roughly recounted the matters in Y Country to Le Tong, content similar to what he said to Mr. Ji yesterday.
Including CoCo’s line, Ji Rui relayed it unchanged.
Le Tong remained calm; Ji Rui not mentioning a word about the matters over there after being back for more than a day already gave her a rough idea of the development.
She quietly listened until Ji Rui finished, holding his hand, smiling to comfort him, "The world is as big as the market."
If Ji Rui still had the slightest bit of unwillingness or reluctance before, these feelings completely vanished into outer space when he saw Le Tong’s serene smile and heard her simply-spoken sentence.
Over the years, he gained much and lost greatly; just a small market indeed didn’t warrant such unwillingness or reluctance.
"Mm." Ji Rui responded without the slightest reluctance.
He realized that since being with Le Tong, her open-mindedness was gradually affecting him.
In the past, he was highly obsessed with many things.
To Mr. Ji, to the Ji Family, it was all the same.
Many old incidents, many entanglements, had entangled in his brain for years, unable to be resolved.
Thus, he had always been caught in a painful love-hate struggle with Mr. Ji.
But Le Tong was different; her gaze always looked forward, and she seldom possessed a look of pessimism or despair. No matter how miserable the situation, what she saw was still firmness and strength.
Of course, she wasn’t born so strong; he remembered she had told him before, she was once a crybaby. Even now, she was still a crybaby.
However, he hardly ever saw her cry elaborately.
"Le Tong, I remember you said you’re a crybaby, but I haven’t really seen you cry!"
Ji Rui gently pulled her over, his large hand seeming to unintentionally brush across her smooth skin, his fingertips softly touching that bracelet which had already taken on her body temperature.
Le Tong blinked, her smile deepening a bit.
"Because, I’m living so happily now! Of course, there are many things that aren’t ideal, but in general, I feel more happy than sad every day!"
How beautifully said—more happy than sad!
Ji Rui’s heart felt full, as he pressed his lips to her face, gently caressing.
"And what about before?"
Ji Rui asked cautiously, though he had always wanted to know how she managed during the hardest days of her life, he rarely dared to ask because those were not very good memories.
Le Tong placed her other hand into his palm, letting his warm hand heat her slightly cool one.
"Before..."
Le Tong paused for a bit, as if recalling, or organizing her thoughts.
"When I found out my mom had terminal illness, I cried my heart out alone in the kitchen."
Ji Rui’s heart ached fiercely, and he couldn’t help but squeeze her hand.
"After that cry, I never cried again.
At first, I thought my mom was beyond saving, and she’d die in a few days, but the doctor said as long as surgery was performed and successful, she could survive, so I laughed and told myself, turns out, mom doesn’t have to die!
The surgery cost was three hundred thousand, I borrowed from family and friends, and of course, not a penny was borrowed. Then, I discovered that website, settled with them the next day, so I laughed and told myself, well, three hundred thousand isn’t an astronomical number after all.
My mom’s surgery was very successful, and I was happy for quite a while. When Baobao was born, I felt even more that this little life was a gift from heaven to me. Although he was destined to be taken away upon birth, I knew his father would love him dearly and would give him a more prosperous life and a better future than I ever could.
Later, Baobao’s situation did torment me for several years, but heaven really favored me, eventually sending him back to my side in such a convoluted way. The most precious thing was that he not only didn’t resent me at all, but also loved me dearly!"
As Le Tong said this, she looked up to kiss Ji Rui on the lips.
"And you are also a treasure given to me by heaven. You cherish me deeply, do you know that?"
Le Tong’s words were infinitely tender, and her volume was as soft as a mosquito’s hum, but to Ji Rui, it felt like the large striking bell in an ancient temple, hitting heavily on his heart, resounding with tremendous echoes, continually reverberating in his mind.
"Baby, I hate myself for not discovering your goodness sooner!"
Ji Rui murmured, gently brushing his lips against hers, kissing cautiously, gently.
Le Tong withdrew her hand from his warm palm, wrapped them around his neck, hanging her whole self onto him.
"Fool, didn’t you tell me before, those blemish-free-looking jade pieces often turn out to be fabricated. True pieces always come with slight imperfections. Actually, I’m quite thankful that you first saw all my flaws, and now as you gradually see my other good traits, you’ll only think I’m more wonderful, hence loving me even more! Isn’t that so?"
Upon finishing, Le Tong turned her face slightly flushed out of self-conscious pride from her own self-praise.
But indeed, those were her true thoughts.
Although she felt she was far from being as perfect as Ji Rui imagined, everyone has some vanity. She’s no exception. Being imagined as such a wonderful person, though feeling somewhat guilty, she felt satisfied and happy.
After all, in life, some things shouldn’t be too clearly seen; often, the most beautiful view is the one seen through the mist, rather than under direct sunlight.
Since in his mind she was so perfect, she’d let him continue thinking so!
