Chapter 498 - 497: Giving Le Tong Enough Face (Part 1)
The sky gradually darkened. Over there, the "shy" Le Tong watched as Little Black and Little Grey "snorted" and finished all the dog food in their bowls, and her own stomach embarrassingly growled."Baobao, Mommy will go back to the house first."
Le Tong stood up and called out to the father and son pair whispering secrets behind her, then started walking towards the big house.
The father and son had been playing on the grass all afternoon, and by this time, the sun had set, and a chilly breeze was blowing in.
"Let’s go inside, the weather’s getting cold."
Ji Rui didn’t care if Baobao was willing or not. He scooped up the little guy by the waist and chased after Le Tong.
"Mommy, wait for us."
Baobao shouted loudly, but Le Tong had no intention of stopping. However, Ji Rui had long legs and quickly caught up to her.
"Yuan’er is getting married? Have you decided what gift we should give?"
Le Tong looked at him curiously. "You give your gift, and I’ll give mine."
"Let’s just give one together, it’s too troublesome to give separately." For more chapters visıt novelhall.com
Ji Rui simply thought it would be delightful to have both his and Le Tong’s names on the gift and the card without any specific reason.
"I’ve already prepared mine. You and Baobao can give yours together!" Le Tong gave him no room for fantasy, directly refusing his idea.
But Ji Rui was not someone who gives up easily, "You can give one yourself, and I, along with you and Baobao, can give one together. Baobao, what do you think!"
The Baobao in his arms immediately responded crisply, "Okay!"
Le Tong didn’t quite understand why he was so persistent, but since he wanted it that way, she didn’t want to spoil his and their son’s fun.
"Whatever you want..."
"Then we’ll go out to choose the gift later, Baobao..." Ji Rui already understood Le Tong’s mindset, knowing that involving Baobao doubled his chances of success.
"Okay!" Baobao, being sharp, raised his little hand with a bright smile even before Ji Rui asked if he agreed.
Le Tong had slept all afternoon and felt great, but hadn’t Baobao rested at noon?
"Baobao, aren’t you tired?" Le Tong carefully examined Baobao’s face.
"Not at all! Baobao and Daddy slept until noon when the sun was shining on our butts before getting up!"
Le Tong looked at the father and son duo, both appeared energetic and full of life, so there was no need to worry about them being tired.
"Alright then!"
The three returned to the big house, where Mr. Ji had also gotten up and was sitting in the middle of the living room reading a newspaper. Seeing them return, he folded the newspaper and rolled his wheelchair over.
"Dinner is ready. Go wash your hands and come over to eat."
Ji Rui said nothing, went to wash Baobao’s hands, while Le Tong, feeling a bit embarrassed, politely offered an apology.
"Chairman, sorry for keeping you waiting."
Mr. Ji smiled, "This is what makes it feel like home. Dining alone doesn’t require waiting but there’s no flavor in what you eat..."
The topic was too sensitive, and Le Tong couldn’t think of a response, opting to pretend she hadn’t heard and instead walked behind the elderly man to push his wheelchair into the dining room.
When Le Tong finished washing her hands and came out, the table which previously had only a few dishes was now covered with a variety of fragrant delicacies.
"Come sit down, everyone must be hungry?" Mr. Ji invited them to sit.
Baobao hesitated while standing beside Le Tong, who could probably guess his thoughts, touched the back of his neck, and bent down to whisper, "Baobao, go accompany grandpa."
Baobao glanced at her again, then smiled and nodded, "Okay."
"Grandpa, I want to sit next to you."
The little guy enthusiastically ran over, nimbly climbed onto the chair like a monkey, "Grandpa, have some soup."
Standing on the chair, Baobao carefully took the soup bowl offered by the housekeeper and handed it to Mr. Ji.
"Great! Great! Thank you, Baobao!" Mr. Ji eagerly took the bowl, his eyes smiling into lines.
Ji Rui sat next to Le Tong, took a sip of soup, and just as Housekeeper Li brought in more dishes, he asked.
"Uncle Li, is Grandpa Luo’s family hosting a wedding?"
Housekeeper Li looked flattered because the young master hadn’t called him Uncle Li in many years.
"Yes, yes, someone just brought over an invitation. I was about to bring it to you and the master after dinner to have a look. Shall I bring it over now?" Housekeeper Li waited nervously for Ji Rui’s instructions.
"No need, Uncle Li, sit down and join us for dinner."
Housekeeper Li was even more alarmed, thinking he might have done something to upset the young master.
"Ah Rui told you to sit, so sit down. They’re not here, don’t you usually eat with me anyway?"
Mr. Ji looked over, giving permission which let Housekeeper Li off the hook.
Housekeeper Li sat down apprehensively but didn’t dare to pick up his bowl. To be honest, this household feared nothing more than the young master and the little master together.
It’s safe to say that everyone in this mansion probably shared his sentiments.
Everyone feared the young master because he was very strict, always cold towards people and rarely smiling.
They feared the little master because of his mischievous nature, often bringing about unexpected trouble and blaming it on them.
"Young Master, Mr. Luo is marrying off his granddaughter, so just as before, sending two big red packets should suffice, right?"
Usually, matters of etiquette, whether weddings or funerals among large families, were handled by Housekeeper Li, and Ji Rui never intervened.
Had it not been for Luo Yuanyuan being Le Tong’s dear friend, this situation would have been handled as usual.
"No, I will personally deliver the one from Le Tong, Baobao, and I."
Housekeeper Li, unaware of Le Tong’s relationship with Luo Yuanyuan, was bewildered, assuming the young master was unsatisfied with his work, hence deciding to handle it himself.
Sitting next to Baobao, Mr. Ji, having looked into Le Tong beforehand, was aware of the connection between Le Tong and Luo Yuanyuan. Hearing Ji Rui’s declaration, he figured that Ji Rui wanted to handle it personally to maintain Le Tong’s dignity.
This was probably a good thing. This solitary and proud elder son should socialize more with peers from other notable families, and though the Luo Family was not quite on par with the Ji Family, it’s better to have more allies than stand alone and make enemies everywhere.
"Old Li, the granddaughter Mr. Luo is marrying off, is Le Tong’s college classmate, presumably her close friend, right?"
Mr. Ji turned his gaze to Le Tong, seemingly seeking her confirmation.
"Yes, Yuan’er and I were college classmates, best friends sharing a dorm." Le Tong nodded.
"Hmm, since that’s the case, Old Li, help me prepare a more impressive gift. After all, it’s Le Tong’s sister getting married."
By saying this, Mr. Ji gave Le Tong ample respect.
However, his goodwill left Le Tong feeling uneasy.
