Chapter 489 - 488: Show of Happiness Competition (Part 1)
Ji Rui and Le Tong were watching TV with the baby in the living room for a while. It was already past bedtime, yet the little one refused to go to sleep. After coaxing for quite some time, the little one still clung to Ji Rui and wouldn’t come down. Le Tong could only put on a stern face and ask him.
"Not going to sleep?"
The little one saw Le Tong’s stance and immediately flattered, holding Le Tong’s face, kissing and murmuring, "Baby will sleep, but Baby wants Mommy and Daddy to sleep with him..."
The baby hadn’t seen Ji Rui for several days and probably missed him a lot. Otherwise, the little rascal who usually stuck to Le Tong was attached to Ji Rui after dinner and never came down.
Le Tong looked up at Ji Rui, who blinked with a smile, meaning he’s ok with anything.
Le Tong thought, anyway, once the baby falls asleep, they would each return to their rooms, so it wasn’t a big deal.
So she patted the baby’s bottom, "Alright, Daddy and Mommy will accompany you to sleep, no dawdling."
"Yes madam!" the baby responded crisply, causing Le Tong, who initially kept a stern face, to laugh. "Little rascal!"
The baby struggled out of Le Tong’s embrace, slipped like an eel onto the carpet, stood barefoot as if afraid Ji Rui and Le Tong would go back on their word, and extended his chubby hands toward them.
Ji Rui stood up, bent down, and lifted the little rascal, carrying him onto his shoulder.
"Alright, Daddy and Mommy are going to sleep with the baby."
Another hand went over to wrap around Le Tong’s shoulder, pulling her into his embrace as she stood up.
Ji Rui is strong; the pulse on his wrist is clearly and forcefully transmitting through the fabric to Le Tong’s skin pores, making her whole body suddenly sensitive.
She uneasily struggled twice, the man carrying the baby quickly turned his head, "Uncomfortable?"
She shook her head and managed a smile at him.
Even she felt she was being pretentious; as lovers, a little cuddle is no big deal, but her evasion might make him overthink. Yet, the body’s instinct made such a response beyond her control, leaving her helpless.
Ji Rui didn’t believe her words. His big hand rubs her shoulder, feeling the cold through the thin fabric.
"Cold?"
Le Tong had no choice but to nod, "A bit..."
"Did you not take your medicine on time?" Ji Rui’s eyes carried both concern and reproach.
Le Tong hadn’t had a chance to defend herself, when the baby perched on Ji Rui’s shoulder giggled, "Mommy is naughty, Mommy is naughty..."
Le Tong gently tapped the little butt twice, scolding, "Ji Yu, don’t speak nonsense!"
Ji Rui lowered his head and kissed her face, joking, "The baby wasn’t wrong; you’re indeed naughty!"
Le Tong slightly tilted her head, casting a sideways glance.
Once in the bedroom, Ji Rui put the baby down and patted his head, "Go brush your teeth!"
"Daddy and Mommy together!"
The baby held onto each parent with both hands, insistently wanting his parents to accompany him.
Regarding such occasional childlike requests, Le Tong has always been indulgent. In her view, the baby is already quite mature, so she often agrees to his childish requests.
Perhaps Ji Rui foresaw this situation, the washroom was spacious, allowing the three to stand side by side at the sink, feeling quite harmonious rather than crowded.
Le Tong bent down to squeeze toothpaste for the baby, while Ji Rui helped squeeze Le Tong’s, and the baby was busy himself, squeezing a big blob of toothpaste onto Ji Rui’s toothbrush.
The mischievous little one held in his laughter while handing the toothbrush to Ji Rui, who took it nonchalantly and put it in his mouth. His free hand pinched the giggling rascal’s butt and then reached around to gently rest on Le Tong’s waist.
Le Tong, biting her toothbrush, had bubbles full of her puffed lips as she glared at him sideways.
Ji Rui smiled at her, catching sight in the mirror of their varied heights, each with a mouthful of bubbles. Not finding it comical, he felt immense warmth and harmony.
Ji Rui let go, took his phone from the shelf, and snapped pictures of their bubbly mouths reflected in the mirror.
Le Tong raised an eyebrow, giving him another glare, while Ji Rui raised his eyebrow too, letting out an "Hmm?!" from his nostrils, leaned past the baby, and kissed Le Tong’s cheek like a fish despite the bubbles.
Le Tong wiped off the bubbles with an annoyed face and kicked Ji Rui’s shin with her foot.
Amused, the baby shook his head left and right while brushing his teeth and decided not to join his parents, happily brushing his own teeth.
Ji Rui, having been kicked by Le Tong, finally settled down to brush his teeth under her fierce glances and continued to snap mirror photos with his phone.
Le Tong was past wanting to ridicule him, finished brushing her teeth and washing her face, and bent to smooth the baby’s hair.
"Baby, your hair is long; we’ll take you for a haircut tomorrow."
At the hospital, the baby always had a shaved head. Now, the hair had grown past his ears, and since no one mentioned cutting it and he didn’t ask, Le Tong assumed he wanted the mushroom haircut he had before.
The baby eagerly nodded, pointed at Ji Rui, "Yes, but Baby wants to cut it like Daddy’s hairstyle!"
Le Tong was taken aback, wondering why the little one, usually having a cute style, suddenly wanted a strong, manly look?
"Why? Wasn’t Baby’s previous hairstyle good? Very cute and adorable!"
Le Tong’s own preference leans toward her baby being like before, knowing he’s mentally mature while still appearing purely adorable.
The baby shook his head fiercely, "No, no, Baby is a real man!"
Le Tong wanted to laugh but didn’t dare, fearing to hurt her son’s self-esteem; she held back laughter, swept his bangs aside, and kissed him.
"Alright, Baby can cut whatever he wants!"
Ji Rui, having laid a towel aside, rubbed the baby’s head with his big hand, joked kindly, "Baby is so handsome that any hairstyle would look good."
Le Tong gave him a sidelong glance, "Yes, we might as well call him big Ji Rui and little Ji Rui!"
The three of them laughed, walked out of the bedroom, and the baby jumped onto the bed, shouting for Ji Rui and Le Tong to hurry up.
Le Tong climbed in and laid down beside him; Ji Rui leaned against the bed, fiddling with his phone.
After a while of crawling over Le Tong’s body, the baby couldn’t withstand, climbing onto Ji Rui, curiously peeking his little head at the phone screen.
"Show off happiness contest..." the baby read out the words on the screen.
Le Tong initially thought Ji Rui just wanted some keepsake photos, unexpectedly, the man discreetly sent their photos to a contest.
Le Tong turned on her side, propped her head, gazed at Ji Rui, and saw the man with downcast eyes under the light. His stern features surprisingly revealed soft tenderness.
Is this man still the rigid, expressionless President Ji she’s known?
