Chapter 480 - 479: Sorry for the past!
Chapter 480 - 479: Sorry for the past!
"Grandpa, no talking bad about Baobao!"Baobao’s crisp voice cut in. Evidently, he had overheard what Mr. Ji said to Le Tong.
"Oh, does Baobao have bad things for Grandpa to say?!" Mr. Ji laughed, looking at Baobao carefully walking over with a tray.
"Hmph, of course not!"
Baobao rolled his eyes at Mr. Ji, placed the tray on the coffee table, picked up the orange juice on the tray, and handed it to Le Tong, "Mommy, your orange juice."
"Thank you, Baobao!" Le Tong took the orange juice and bent down to give the little guy a kiss on the cheek.
"Grandpa, this is your grape juice."
"Did Baobao make this himself?" Mr. Ji smiled as he took the juice and took a sip.
"Of course Baobao made it, Grandpa Li can vouch."
Baobao turned his head and pointed to Housekeeper Li, who had followed him out. Housekeeper Li nodded, "That’s right, the young master made it himself!"
"Since when has Baobao become so capable? How come Grandpa didn’t know at all?" Mr. Ji pinched the little guy’s cheek, glancing at Le Tong.
In the Ji Family mansion, Baobao had always lived a life of luxury, having everything handed to him on a silver platter. When he heard that Baobao could wrap wontons before, Mr. Ji thought it was a joke. Now, the juice was made under the butler’s watchful eye, indicating that in these few months outside of the mansion, the little guy had changed quite a bit.
"Baobao is no longer a child; Baobao can take care of Daddy and Mommy, and can also take care of Grandpa," Baobao answered earnestly, biting on a straw.
In the past few months with Le Tong, under her guidance, Baobao learned quite a few household chores, like helping in the kitchen or folding clothes. Le Tong was happy to let him help with such low-intensity tasks.
Though Baobao was still young, he saw with his own eyes how Daddy and Mommy worked tirelessly, and how Le Tong busied herself as soon as she got home, rarely finding any downtime. Seeing his tired Mommy, he gradually learned to take on some of the responsibilities within his capabilities.
Mr. Ji looked at Baobao with great satisfaction. In just a few months, the little guy’s defiant and violent vibe had almost disappeared. What’s left, aside from his innocence and forthrightness, is care and warmth for his family. As the current trend goes, he’s a "little gentleman."
Mr. Ji occasionally caught a glimpse of those reality shows on TV featuring warm-hearted children and was envious, assuming the Ji Family’s genes didn’t include such traits. So, an adorable and considerate child like this was unexpected in the Ji Family. After all, the cold and reticent Ji Rui wasn’t, the selfish Ji Wen and Ji Wu weren’t, and previously, Baobao was also willful and stubborn. Even though the other two grandsons were still young, they were also arrogant and pampered.
And Baobao, after just a few months living with Le Tong, his temperament had greatly changed from before. It seems it’s not the Ji Family’s genes that lacked something, but rather his own education methods that had a problem.
"Really? How will Baobao take care of Grandpa?"
Mr. Ji was very curious; besides making juice and wrapping wontons, he wondered what else the little guy could do.
Baobao sipped his juice with a "gurgle gurgle" sound, his dark eyes not leaving Mr. Ji.
Mr. Ji waited with anticipation until the little guy drained half the cup in one go, let out a satisfied burp, then put down the cup and crawled beside him.
"Grandpa, would you like Baobao to give you a massage? It feels really good!"
Mr. Ji thought it over and nodded with a smile, finding it not a bad idea.
Le Tong, who hadn’t been paying much attention to the interaction between the grandfather and grandson, suddenly looked up and wanted to stop Baobao’s impulsiveness anxiously.
"Baobao, Grandpa’s leg is injured; you can’t just press anywhere."
Le Tong was truly worried that Baobao might not know his own strength. Although the little guy meant well, it could lead to trouble. Given Mr. Ji’s indulgent nature towards Baobao, even if Baobao’s actions went too far, he probably wouldn’t stop them and might even act as if he enjoyed it.
Holding his hands midair, Baobao turned to look at Le Tong, then turned back to look at Mr. Ji, hesitating about whether to proceed or not.
Mr. Ji smiled at Le Tong, as if to reassure her, implying he was fine.
Raising his hand to pat his shoulder, he smiled at Baobao, "Grandpa’s shoulders are sore, could Baobao give them a squeeze?"
Baobao immediately beamed with excitement, moved behind Mr. Ji, and his chubby little hands opened to press on both sides of the old man’s shoulders.
"Grandpa, when will your leg come out of the cast?"
The little guy’s hands didn’t stop, but his eyes kept glancing at Mr. Ji’s cast-covered calf.
"Still a long time to go!" Mr. Ji himself couldn’t quite remember the doctor’s date; after all, when the time came, someone would naturally remind him.
"Does it hurt?" Baobao showed a face full of concern.
"Grandpa doesn’t hurt... Baobao is so good!" At his age, Mr. Ji was no longer used to using his pain to solicit sympathy and concern.
Especially, seeing the worry in his darling grandson’s eyes, he couldn’t bear for the little guy to suffer for his sake.
"Grandpa should think of happy things, and then it won’t hurt." Baobao, wise beyond his years, clearly didn’t quite believe him, but he himself had suffered from illness months ago, so this advice was based on his own experience.
"Yes, Grandpa knows," Mr. Ji acknowledged, nodding with a smile.
Thanks to Baobao’s reminder, Mr. Ji recalled the matter he had mentioned to Le Tong earlier and called out to the butler who was directing others not far away.
"Old Li!"
"Sir, what is it?" Housekeeper Li immediately jogged over.
"Go to my study and bring down the photo albums of Ah He and Baobao when they were young for Le Tong to see. Also, bring down the certificates and trophies Baobao received in kindergarten."
Baobao was raised by Mr. Ji, who meticulously preserved many items documenting Baobao’s growth.
Le Tong, who had always felt like an outsider, couldn’t help but feel touched hearing this.
While she might have dismissed Mr. Ji’s previous words as pleasantries, she couldn’t ignore such a sincere gesture from the old man.
Housekeeper Li flashed a hint of surprise in his eyes, glanced at Le Tong, but didn’t ask anything. He quickly responded and ran up the stairs.
Clearly receiving a reconciliatory signal from Mr. Ji, Le Tong couldn’t maintain her distant, aloof demeanor. Meeting Mr. Ji’s still kind eyes, she sincerely said, "Thank you, Chairman!"
Mr. Ji raised a hand to pat the little guy’s hand, looked at Le Tong, and said, "What are you thanking me for? I’m sorry for the past. Thank you for taking care of Baobao and Ah Ru these months; it’s been hard on you!"
Thus, regarding the relationship between Ji Rui and Le Tong, Mr. Ji felt completely relieved.
Le Tong hadn’t expected the usually stern and strict old man to apologize so solemnly. She was momentarily stunned, though still processing it all, she politely shook her head and said, "It’s no trouble, it’s what I ought to do."
