Chapter 472 - 471: Bed-Warming Tool
Chapter 472 - 471: Bed-Warming Tool
To Ji Rui, who Le Tong’s parents are, or whether her identity is that of an illegitimate child, is completely unimportant. As long as she is who she is, nothing else matters to him. But he’s not sure if Le Tong is aware of this, and if she, like him, is indifferent to the identity of being an illegitimate child.
Le Tong is not a fragile person, but that doesn’t mean she has to endure unnecessary hurt.
And now, Ji Rui especially doesn’t want her to be hurt because of the past they both can’t change.
Lawyer Fan left for a while, and Le Tong came in with a stack of documents to hand to Ji Rui.
"Mr. Ji, here are the documents you wanted."
Ji Rui accepted the documents but didn’t open them. Instead, he leaned back slightly and stared at Le Tong.
"Is there something dirty on my face?" Le Tong instinctively touched her face.
Ji Rui shook his head, "No, why did you put on makeup today?"
Seeing Le Tong, Ji Rui couldn’t help but recall what Lawyer Fan said before leaving, but he had no intention of bringing it up with Le Tong. Le Tong’s expression was normal, but today, she had put on light makeup, unlike her usually bare face.
"Oh, wasn’t there something to do outside today, so I put on a bit of makeup."
The truth was, the weather was getting colder, and Le Tong had a naturally cold constitution. In winter, her bed was always painfully cold, making it hard to sleep.
In the past, Le Tong would use an electric blanket to warm the bed, but in Ji Rui’s new apartment, there obviously wasn’t such an item. The sudden cold snap made Le Tong remember to get thick winter clothes for Ji Rui and Baobao, but she forgot to buy an electric blanket for herself. So, after tossing and turning in the cold bed for two nights, she got up this morning with very noticeable dark circles and put on makeup before leaving the house.
"Really?" Ji Rui examined her carefully, half-skeptical.
Baobao needed to leave for kindergarten half an hour early today to rehearse a performance, so Le Tong took Baobao out early; Ji Rui only just got to see her now.
Afraid of him noticing anything, Le Tong turned her head to avoid his gaze.
"Did you make tea yourself?"
Seeing the tea set and utensils on the coffee table in the lounge, Le Tong was quite surprised.
It was hard to imagine the time-constrained workaholic President Ji wasting time on something as leisurely as making tea.
"No, Lawyer Fan had just been here."
"Lawyer Fan came? Was it about the case?"
Le Tong turned to look at him, her attention immediately drawn back.
"Yes."
Ji Rui held her wrist, pulling her over gently to embrace her.
Compared to a few cups of fragrant, mellow tea, Le Tong more readily relaxed him both physically and mentally.
"Is there a result?" Le Tong naturally placed her hand on the back of his neck, gently stroking him.
By now, she had gradually gotten used to this level of physical contact, even responding to him as she did now, to comfort him unconsciously.
"That model took all the blame herself. It seems the case will be concluded soon."
Ji Rui leaned against her slightly, a faint fragrance swirling at the tip of his nose, soothing and reassuring him.
Le Tong paused for a moment, a big question mark in her mind, but she didn’t ask anything. She just moved her hand to his back, gently patting.
"What do you want to eat tonight? I’ll have Aunt Guan prepare the ingredients first."
Le Tong took the initiative to change the subject. Although she had many questions about the case, she sensitively knew that Ji Rui didn’t want to delve into it.
"Anything is fine, keep it simple. You’re busy too, making meals after work is quite tiring, right?"
Ji Rui raised his hand to hold her head, pulling her down to kiss her on the lips. Le Tong lost her balance and tumbled onto his lap.
The light, shallow kiss was like a willow branch brushing across a tranquil lake, gently stirring ripples in the lake of Le Tong’s heart.
After their lips parted, the two, slightly out of breath, pressed their foreheads together, their eyes meeting.
Their ambiguous atmosphere flowed in the air, and Le Tong could even feel her heart fluttering excitedly.
Ji Rui let her go, leaning back slightly, but his gaze never left her face.
"Did you have insomnia? Hmm?"
His long fingers touched under her eyes, gently tracing the curve of them.
Le Tong froze for a moment, awkwardly smiling, "Um, I didn’t sleep well last night."
"Why?" Ji Rui asked gently, leaning in to kiss under her eyelid softly.
Le Tong’s ears burned; this man’s tenderness could be so devastating.
"A bit cold..." Le Tong mumbled embarrassedly.
Ji Rui paused for a moment, thinking Le Tong had something on her mind causing her insomnia, but he didn’t expect such a reason.
"Cold? Isn’t there air conditioning?" Ji Rui looked at her incredulously, instinctively grabbing her hand, gently rubbing her slightly cool fingertips.
"The air conditioner seems broken. I turned it on, but it’s still cold." Le Tong pouted.
Ji Rui frowned and reached for the phone on the table, calling Xiao Li to immediately get someone to recheck all the air conditioners in the apartment.
After hanging up, Ji Rui looked down at Le Tong leaning on him.
"Next time you’re cold, come to me. I’ll share half the bed with you."
When Ji Rui said this, his mind was very pure, simply considering himself as a bed warmer.
Le Tong laughed and huffed, "I’m not that foolish!" Le Tong understood his intention but couldn’t help teasing him a bit.
"Can you be a bit more pure? What’s in your mind?!" Ji Rui glared at her, tapping her head with a knuckle.
"I’m plenty pure; you’re the one who’s not!" Le Tong retorted without missing a beat.
Le Tong’s face clearly read that she thought he was a bad guy. Ji Rui, both curious and amused, grabbed her hand and gave it a playful bite.
"In what way am I not pure?"
"A pure person wouldn’t take someone to the lounge..."
Le Tong suddenly realized something, her face blushing like she’d choked, stopping her words.
Ji Rui shook his head helplessly, rubbing her head vigorously with his hand.
"Didn’t I say? We’ll take it slow. I won’t force you unless you’re willing!"
Ji Rui spoke with some exasperation, gazing at her intently afterward.
Le Tong felt she might have taken the joke too far, or maybe it wasn’t that she took it too far, but rather he took it too seriously.
Little did she know, regarding this matter, Ji Rui was always careful, especially after she uttered "I’m afraid." Ji Rui felt like he’d like nothing more than to give himself a beating.
"Alright, it’s my fault!"
Le Tong leaned in to peck Ji Rui’s lips, admitting her mistake proactively.
She understood well that his way of thinking differed from hers. What seemed trivial to her might become a fishbone stuck in his throat.
"No, it’s not your fault. It’s my fault!"
Ji Rui softly kissed her lips, her face, gently soothing her with his words.
