Chapter 378: Can’t Escape from Her Palm (Part 1)
Chapter 378: Can’t Escape from Her Palm (Part 1)
On Saturday, Yang Sheng visited Le Tong’s home as promised, but Le Tong’s attitude towards Ji Rui hadn’t become any friendlier because of it.To this, Yang Sheng listened to Ji Rui’s complaints several times, yet couldn’t help him, only saying, "Tongtong turns terrifying when she’s angry. I don’t dare provoke her either."
Yang Sheng was quite self-aware, knowing that even Baobao hit a wall on this, he’d only have a worse outcome trying himself.
Le Tong was busy alone in the kitchen, while the three men huddled in the guest room discussing the matter. Yang Sheng and Baobao tried to give Ji Rui some advice.
"Rui, Tongtong has a soft heart. Perhaps you could try the ’injury feigned’ ruse?"
"No way!"
Unexpectedly, both Ji Rui and Baobao firmly rejected Yang Sheng’s suggestion.
"Why not? You’ve never tried it after all!"
The father and son exchanged glances, clearly reading similar things in each other’s eyes.
"She’d be heartbroken!" Ji Rui said softly.
"Yeah, mommy would be very sad!" Baobao nodded in agreement.
When Baobao fell ill, both father and son remembered well how heartbroken and distressed Le Tong was, so they would never use such a tactic, as they couldn’t bear to see her sad.
Yang Sheng stayed silent for a moment, seemingly agreeing with the father and son’s viewpoint.
"What about searching for some guides on Baidu for pursuing someone?"
Despite Yang Sheng’s outward, fun-loving personality, he was actually very serious about relationships, something evident from the fact he hadn’t dated anyone since breaking up with his first love.
And his first love was a childhood sweetheart, so, in terms of pursuit experience, he wasn’t much more knowledgeable than Ji Rui.
Ji Rui shook his head, "It’s useless. Last time I gave her flowers, and it didn’t work out."
Ji Rui hadn’t mentioned this to Yang Sheng before.
Yang Sheng’s eyes lit up, "Was it you who sent Tongtong that bouquet of red roses? I knew it! How could Tongtong possibly be so unrealistic to buy a bunch of flowers just for decoration."
"She paid me back for the flowers, so technically, saying she bought them herself isn’t wrong!" Ji Rui said gloomily.
Although it was quite embarrassing to talk about, it wasn’t about saving face now. He had a hunch that if he didn’t find the root of the problem soon, he’d continue to be ignored.
Yang Sheng burst out laughing at this unexpected development, without showing any mercy.
"Haha, Tongtong is really just too cute!"
Even Baobao couldn’t help but giggle while holding his stomach.
Ji Rui’s face turned green from their laughter, "I didn’t bring this up for you to make fun of me, but for you to think of a solution!"
Ji Rui was a bit annoyed!
Though he didn’t want to admit it, he couldn’t deny that Yang Sheng and Baobao understood Le Tong better than he did, making it easier for them to find effective ways to cheer her up.
Yang Sheng and Baobao managed to contain their laughter, but the amusement in their eyes remained.
"Rui, you’ve truly met your match! Tongtong is The Buddha, and you’re Old Sun. You’re doomed; you’ll never escape the palm of Tongtong’s hand again." Yang Sheng jested at Ji Rui with a hint of sympathy.
"I haven’t been able to escape for a long time..." Ji Rui sighed helplessly.
His candor and honesty left Yang Sheng a little astonished.
Ji Rui, such a proud and aloof man, openly admitted to being vanquished by a woman, which needed quite a bit more courage than usual.
He once wondered, for a man like Ji Rui, with high intelligence but low emotional intelligence, how his future wife or girlfriend could possibly endure him.
Now it seemed his future "wife" would happen to be a woman with high emotional intelligence, slowly teaching and changing this emotionally inept man in her own way.
Thinking about it, Yang Sheng suddenly felt that no matter how many good experiences and advice others might provide, they wouldn’t suit Ji Rui, because the woman he liked was anything but ordinary.
And, despite Le Tong’s current disregard for Ji Rui, her feelings for him might be much deeper than even they or she herself imagined.
"Since you can’t escape, just keep making an effort. Once you’re more invested, the feelings will naturally deepen. It’s like concrete; initially unrelated materials are mixed, and after much mixing and stirring, you get an indestructible mixture."
Yang Sheng’s words were quite reasonable, and after wracking his brains for several days, Ji Rui began to despair as well.
Now, after hearing Yang Sheng’s words, he recalled past instances when he and Le Tong had gone through silent treatment, and it seemed they always reconciled inexplicably.
Alright then, if there’s no specific method, he’ll just let things unfold naturally, treating, indulging, and doting on her until she’s willing to open her heart to him.
With his mind made up, Ji Rui suddenly stood up.
"I’m going to check on the kitchen!"
Yang Sheng and Baobao looked at each other, but in the end, no one stopped him, as they couldn’t.
"Le Tong, the amusement park is opening soon, and it’s Baobao’s birthday not long after. I was thinking of taking Baobao to see his grandmother. What do you think?"
This was something Ji Rui had planned to mention to Le Tong after the Mid-Autumn Festival, but with the day approaching, he felt it couldn’t hurt to bring it up sooner.
Le Tong turned her head, surprised to look at him, seemingly not expecting him to bring up something that seemed completely unrelated to him.
Seeing her remain silent, Ji Rui couldn’t help but feel anxious, "If you think the time isn’t right, we can wait a bit longer..."
Although he thought Mrs. Le in heaven would be very happy to see such a smart and adorable grandson, that was just his thought and didn’t necessarily mean Le Tong felt the same way.
After her surprise, a smile appeared on Le Tong’s face—one that she perhaps hadn’t shown Ji Rui for a long time, "How about tomorrow? Anyway, Baobao wants to go out for a walk, and the weather has been nice lately."
Recently, Le Tong had been so busy that she hadn’t thought about it at all. Now, with Ji Rui bringing it up, she couldn’t help but scold herself for being unfilial.
Seeing Baobao, mom would certainly be very happy, wouldn’t she?!
Ji Rui was almost blinded by her dazzling smile, and when she eagerly suggested going tomorrow, he knew he’d accidentally hit the nail on the head this time!
"Alright, I’ll tell Baobao now, and tomorrow morning we’ll buy some offerings, okay?"
Ji Rui looked quite excited, and in Le Tong’s eyes, he seemed to have swapped roles with Baobao.
"Mm, you should talk to Baobao first. If he doesn’t want to go, we can postpone it a bit." Le Tong then remembered that they hadn’t gotten the little guy’s consent yet.
It had been so long, and he seemed to have never brought up grandmother to her, probably not too curious, right?
Little did Le Tong know, Baobao hadn’t mentioned it not because he wasn’t curious, but because he was afraid bringing up grandmother would upset mommy, so he never brought it up.
