Chapter 372: You Like Me Too?! (Second Update)
Le Tong rushed outside like a whirlwind, and Baobao, who hadn’t finished his apple juice, looked up at her in astonishment. "So fast?"Le Tong glanced at him without explaining anything and quickly dashed into the tea room.
Baobao was full of confusion. Wasn’t Daddy asking someone to go in and explain and apologize? Why did Mommy come out in the blink of an eye? Did Daddy explain everything clearly, and Mommy is no longer angry? Or did that fool Daddy just make it worse and anger Mommy more?
Baobao tilted his head, biting his straw, contemplating whether to go in and ask Daddy for clarification. Suddenly, the door made a sound, and his usually calm and composed Daddy hurriedly came out of the office.
When Baobao saw his slightly furrowed brows and unsettled appearance, he thought for sure that Daddy couldn’t handle Mommy, and was coming out to make amends. He didn’t say much but pouted his lips towards the tea room, indicating Mommy was over there.
Following his son’s lead, Ji Rui didn’t pause and directly ran to the tea room.
The glass door of the tea room was ajar. Ji Rui hesitated for a moment outside, then gently pushed the door open.
Le Tong was standing by the window, with her back to the door, fiddling with something.
Ji Rui entered the room and stopped at the doorway, pondering what was suitable to say.
Soothing someone is indeed a profound skill, and Ji Rui reckoned he couldn’t even pass the entry-level test. Especially since the person he needed to soothe was deemed the world’s most incomprehensible creature—woman.
Looking through the light, Ji Rui saw only the half-exposed white neck of Le Tong after she lowered her head, with bright sunlight scattering on her smooth skin, reflecting a porcelain-like glow.
"Le Tong..."
Ji Rui actually hadn’t figured out how to soothe her, but he felt the longer he remained silent, the less likely he would have a chance to speak.
Le Tong seemed startled by him, abruptly turned her head, gave him a slightly surprised look, then turned away again, facing the other direction, "Mr. Ji, what’s wrong? Afraid I might slack off?"
Ji Rui was clearly taken aback, "Le Tong, you should know, I didn’t mean that."
"I don’t know." Le Tong spoke while pouring coffee into a pot, adding water, and pressing the switch.
"I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have suspected you like that." Ji Rui mustered all his strength to apologize, realizing that apologizing wasn’t as difficult as he thought.
Le Tong turned around, arms crossed and legs entwined as she leaned against the counter, looking at him with a detached expression.
"Mr. Ji, there’s no need to apologize! Whether you doubt me or not makes no difference to me, whether you doubt or directly convict, I don’t mind at all!"
In any case, it meant that no matter what Ji Rui thought of her, it was irrelevant to her.
This lukewarm attitude of hers, Ji Rui actually disliked.
Even though he couldn’t say he knew her well, he understood that the person in front of him who seemed indifferent seemed to have secretly raised sharp spikes beneath her soft exterior. If he chose to touch her now, he’d surely end up with bloody hands.
But disliking it didn’t matter; he was the one who upset her first, so naturally, he couldn’t expect her to show her usual gentle face towards him. Even if she mocked him coldly, he had to bear it.
Realizing he wasn’t good at soothing people, Ji Rui decided to abandon the idea of wooing Le Tong with sweet words. He was rational and believed Le Tong was rational too. As long as he explained his thoughts clearly, she should gradually become less upset.
With such thoughts, Ji Rui managed not to get upset no matter what she said, waited for her to finish, and then sincerely looked at her and said.
"Le Tong, I was wrong. When Aunt Huang mentioned arranging a boyfriend for you, I got so angry, I’m sorry!"
As the saying goes, one doesn’t hit a smiling face. With Ji Rui’s continuous humble apologies, even if Le Tong was annoyed, she couldn’t bring herself to scold him now.
"Let it go, it’s not a big deal anyway. Mr. Ji, why take it so seriously?" Le Tong’s cold demeanor slightly softened.
She knew better than anyone how terrifying Ji Rui could be when he took things seriously. Although it wasn’t a big deal earlier, he overreacted, making even the apology seem significant.
Ji Rui stared at her intently, "I’m sorry!"
Le Tong had never seen Ji Rui apologize so earnestly. Even if she was annoyed, hearing his repeated apologies made her anger fade.
"Ugh, Mr. Ji, you’re so naggy. Go back to your work; I’ll bring you the coffee when it’s ready." Le Tong said, turning away from Ji Rui.
Ji Rui, however, didn’t leave the tea room as she wished. He remained leaning there, silently watching her back, lost in thought.
When Le Tong had finished brewing the coffee and turned around, she found him still leaning there and was startled.
"Why are you still here?"
Ji Rui reached out to take the coffee, his deep eyes fixed on her, "Are you still mad?"
Le Tong had seen thick-skinned people, but never someone insisting on them admitting they weren’t angry before leaving.
"I’m afraid of you, President Ji. Not angry anymore!" Le Tong said in exasperation, trying to bypass him and walk out.
Ji Rui straightened up, his tall figure immediately blocking the doorway completely.
"My temper definitely isn’t great; I’ll change it, okay?"
Ji Rui lowered his eyes to focus on Le Tong. Honestly, such a humble acknowledgment of fault and plea for forgiveness was unprecedented for President Ji.
Le Tong was slightly surprised. She hadn’t expected Ji Rui’s attitude of admitting fault to be so profound. Being used to his strong and domineering manner, his deliberate restraint made her feel uneasy.
"Mr. Ji, whether your temper is good or bad is not my business. Likewise, concerning my matters, if you can accept them, fine; if not, don’t concern yourself. Alright?"
It’s not Le Tong being pretentious; it’s just that their relationship shouldn’t involve meddling in each other’s affairs.
This was something Ji Rui didn’t like hearing, "That’s not possible!"
Le Tong looked at him in astonishment, half thinking she’d heard wrong.
"I like you. Even if you say you don’t believe it, I can give you time to verify. But you want me not to care about your matters? I can’t do that!"
Ji Rui was straightforward, whether Le Tong accepted him or not, he’d already determined in his heart she was his. Since she was Ji Rui’s person, he couldn’t let other men covet even a little.
Whatever her dissatisfaction with him, he could change other things, but on this point, he wouldn’t compromise at all.
Le Tong truly felt a headache rising, "Mr. Ji, don’t you think you’re being too domineering? You say you like me, but that’s your unilateral affair. Why must I cooperate with you?"
Ji Rui looked at the growing anger in her eyes, showing no sign of retreat.
"Because you like me too!"
[Stuck at a very thrilling point, there should be another update later, but don’t wait up, girls.]
