Chapter 365: Once You’re Hooked, You Can’t Quit! (Five More)
The man on the phone, wouldn’t he think she’s actually hinting something to him?Just as Le Tong was about to awkwardly hang up the phone, Ji Rui’s anxious voice came through, "No, I’ve finished all my work. I’m near your place now, I’ll be up soon. See you in a bit."
Ji Rui on the other end of the line seemed afraid Le Tong would change her mind, so he hurriedly hung up after speaking.
Le Tong watched the car that was facing her balcony do a beautiful U-turn and within just ten seconds, it was parked downstairs.
Le Tong quickly shrank back, picked up the clothes from the basin and shook them, nonchalantly hanging them up to dry.
About four or five minutes later, Le Tong, who had finished hanging the clothes and was waiting in the living room for Mr. Ji’s grand arrival, finally heard the doorbell ring.
Looks like this man calculated the time, waited long enough downstairs, and then came up to ring the bell.
Le Tong opened the door to be greeted by a pungent smell of alcohol, causing her to frown involuntarily.
"Mr. Ji, come in."
Seems like he drank quite a bit tonight.
"I’m sorry for bothering you."
Ji Rui looked composed, saying polite words but wasn’t courteous at all. After entering, he locked the door behind him and bent over to change into slippers, walking into the living room.
Le Tong brought over the freshly brewed ginseng tea and handed it to him, "Did you drink a lot?"
Ji Rui quickly put down his bag and accepted the cup, "Not much, just two or three glasses."
These words might brush off others, but to Le Tong, who’s been by his side for over a year, they held no persuasion.
From his alcohol-reeking state, Le Tong deduced he had drunk at least one or two bottles, and swiftly downed them, no less.
Usually, when he drinks this way, it indicates the other party is significant, at the very least, it shows Ji Rui currently has something to ask of them.
Le Tong didn’t contradict him, seeing him drink tea with his head down, she scrutinized his complexion and couldn’t help but sigh lightly.
"Hungry? I’ll heat up some porridge for you, or make you a bowl of noodles?"
Judging from his slightly pale complexion, it’s likely he hadn’t even had dinner, too focused on discussing business and drinking when meeting the other party.
Ji Rui raised his head in slight astonishment, seemingly unbelieving that he would receive such an ample treatment after coming up to bother at midnight!
"Weren’t you going to sleep? Wouldn’t it be too troublesome for you?"
Though he spoke a thousand good words in his heart, his mouth still shaped the gentlemanly polite words.
Le Tong shot him a glance and turned around briskly, "Then I’ll go to sleep, your clothes are in the guest room wardrobe, Mr. Ji please help yourself."
Le Tong’s tone had a hint of sharpness, and Ji Rui realized his hypocrisy and politeness were not appealing to Le Tong at all.
With a long reach, he grabbed Le Tong’s wrist.
"Le Tong, I’m really hungry, I barely ate dinner..."
Just seconds ago a mature gentleman, now his tone was pitifully akin to a stray dog on the street desperately barking when finally seeing someone bringing leftover food over.
Le Tong, having resolved not to bother with him, couldn’t resist this approach, but couldn’t quell her anger, forcefully shook off his hand, and asked with annoyance while facing away from him.
"Then what do you want to eat? Rice porridge or noodles?"
Even without seeing, she could imagine his face so similar to Baobao’s with a pitiful expression, making her want to turn around and tear into that face savagely to vent the frustration ignited by his pretense.
Ji Rui blinked and hesitated, "Yesterday’s curry beef stew, is there still any left?"
Le Tong couldn’t help but roll her eyes, this man really thinks he’s at a noodle shop, ordering whatever he pleases!
"There is..." Le Tong replied with an exaggeratedly stretched tone.
"Then I’ll have the beef stew noodles... thank you!"
Le Tong huffed and stepped briskly into the kitchen.
Soon, Le Tong’s voice came from the kitchen, "You go shower first, noodles will be ready once you come out."
Ji Rui responded with an "oh," finished the ginseng tea in one go, originally wanting to glance at her in the kitchen, but fearing she’d explode, he ultimately held back all thoughts and obediently went to the guest room, grabbed the outfit which he didn’t need to guess was neatly folded by Le Tong, and went unabashedly into the master bedroom.
On the master bedroom’s bed, the little Baobao cuddled up was sleeping soundly. Ji Rui leaned down and pecked his gradually rosy cheeks. Just as he was about to rise, Baobao suddenly opened his eyes, half-squinting and blinking sleepily, seeming to recognize Ji Rui before him, lifted his chubby little hand, and touched Ji Rui’s face, "Daddy, good night..."
Ji Rui grabbed his little hand and kissed it, "Good night, baby!"
Reluctantly letting go of his hand, Ji Rui tucked him snugly under the covers.
Standing under the shower with eyes half-closed, Ji Rui reminisced about the events of these two days, feeling almost dreamlike.
These past two days, in contrast to his long and solitary over twenty years of life, have been too warm and too blissful. It’s so blissful, he genuinely doubts it all could be a dream!
In the morning, the woman he likes would bring steaming breakfast in front of him. Going out, Baobao son would stand at the door and say goodbye to him and his partner (although Le Tong hasn’t accepted him yet, President Ji has privately considered her his own).
After a tiring day returning home, there would be delicious meals served, the three of them would chat and eat around the dining table. Even though most of the time he just eats and listens, the atmosphere is addictive like a drug, once fallen into, it’s hard to quit.
Facing social obligations like today, usually, all that awaited him was a room of darkness. But today, not only someone opened the door for him, there was a warm hangover-relieving ginseng tea, a sweetly sleeping and still muddled baby son bidding good night, and later, there’s a delicious supper cooked to his taste...
If this kind of happy life is truly a dream, then he would rather never wake up!
After finishing his shower, Le Tong just happened to bring out steaming noodles.
Ji Rui was extremely hungry, yet after taking one bite, put down his chopsticks, tightly gazing at Le Tong mindlessly playing with the TV remote at the side.
Le Tong seemed to notice his gaze, turned to him, "Are the noodles mushy? Too salty?"
Ji Rui shook his head, his deep eyes directly looking at her, as if trying to see into the depths of her eyes.
"Le Tong, I can’t quit, what should I do?"
