Chapter 361 Baobao Feels Sorry for Me, What About You? (One More)
The two entered the door one after the other, and Baobao, hearing the door sound, came running over."Daddy, Mommy..."
Le Tong held him back, not letting him jump onto Ji Rui like a monkey as usual.
"Baobao, your daddy is a bit tired today, how about you come help Mommy cook in the kitchen?"
Ji Baobao immediately turned around and hugged Ji Rui’s leg, looking up with a worried face, asking, "Daddy, what’s wrong? Are you sick? Do you want to call Uncle Doctor to check on you?"
Ji Rui squatted down to pat his head and kissed him on the forehead, "Daddy is not sick, just a bit tired."
Baobao hugged his neck and kissed him twice on the face, "Then Daddy, go rest quickly."
Le Tong lifted Baobao and said to Ji Rui, "Go take a shower, I’ll tidy up the guest room, and I’ll call you when it’s time to eat."
After speaking, Le Tong patted Baobao’s head, "Bao, where did you hide that big bag of clothes for changing from last time for your daddy? Go fetch it for him."
Baobao giggled and agreed, running into the master bedroom in a flash. Soon, when Le Tong and Ji Rui changed their shoes and walked into the living room, Baobao came out holding a bag of clothes.
"Daddy, here you go!" Baobao stuffed the clothes into Ji Rui’s arms.
Ji Rui, holding the big bag of clothes, walked to the guest room door, "Le Tong..."
With her back to the door, taking out the bedding from the wardrobe, Le Tong glanced back at him with increasingly prominent dark circles, "Go wash up and sleep, looking like that, Baobao will be heartbroken."
Le Tong’s words clearly told him not to overthink. She’s being nice just to keep their darling son from worrying.
But in Ji Rui’s eyes, Le Tong must feel somewhat different towards him, although she probably doesn’t even know herself. Or perhaps she knows but deliberately ignores it.
At this point, he really wanted to ask, "Baobao cares for me, what about you?"
But the words didn’t come out, and he wisely swallowed them back.
He knew better than anyone that asking that question now would not yield the answer he wanted, but rather the terrible consequence of being heartlessly shown the door by Le Tong.
He barely managed to get a chance to stay the night; why would he stupidly give it away?
"Okay." Ji Rui was as obedient as Ji Baobao.
Le Tong had no idea about the calculations going on in Ji Rui’s mind; hearing his obedient response, she kindly said, "Go shower in the master bedroom; the water heater there has a strong flow and heats up quickly."
Because she thought that Baobao might occasionally stay with her, Le Tong had intentionally bought a new water heater for the master bathroom.
Although Ji Rui was physically tired, his mood was very good. One reason was that he had safely secured the chairman’s position, and the other was Le Tong’s particularly caring and kind behavior towards him today.
If not for his usual seriousness, he might have very well hummed a tune on his way to the shower.
When Ji Rui came out in comfortable home clothes, the living room was empty. It was easy to guess that the mother and son were definitely in the kitchen cooking.
Ji Rui walked over, and sure enough, saw Ji Baobao standing on a little stool, washing tomatoes and mumbling to himself.
"Mommy, can we grow tomatoes?"
"Sure! Keep the biggest one, cut it open, and put it in a flowerpot."
"Is it really that easy?" Baobao seemed doubtful.
"Yes, let’s plant one tomorrow and see?"
"Okay!"
...
The mother and son each busied themselves with their tasks, chatting incessantly without noticing Ji Rui standing outside the door.
Ji Rui stood listening for a while outside the kitchen but did not interrupt them; he turned around and went to the guest room.
Ji Rui slept very deeply and peacefully.
Perhaps it was because the atmosphere in this house put him at ease, or maybe it was the thought of his son and her busy in the kitchen that made him feel so content.
When he woke up, it was pitch black all around.
Fully aware that he was in Le Tong’s guest room, Ji Rui got out of bed in the dark.
The curtains were drawn so tightly that no light came through. Ji Rui wasn’t very familiar with the room but vaguely remembered the position of the door. After groping around in the dark for a while, he finally found the doorknob, opened the door, and stepped out to the silent living room, where a small night light emitted a faint yellow glow. Ji Rui glanced at his watch; it was past five.
Surprised that he had slept for eleven hours?
His stomach growled at the right time, reminding him it had been neglected for quite some time.
Once his eyes adjusted to the light in the living room, he spotted a note pinned under a paperweight on the coffee table. He picked it up and saw it was in Le Tong’s handwriting.
Mr. Ji:
The food and soup are kept warm in the rice cooker, and the dishes are on the countertop. Heat up what you want to eat in the microwave.
Below Le Tong’s handwriting were a few squiggly words: Big Lazy Pig!
These words were obviously written by Baobao.
Baobao knew many words in both Chinese and English, and he had no trouble reading them, but he rarely used a pen to write, so the handwriting matched his age quite well.
With a smile on his lips, Ji Rui quietly folded the note, put it in his pocket, walked into the kitchen, and lifted the pot lid. Just as Le Tong said, the food and soup were piping hot.
Ji Rui warmed up the curry brisket and Mapo tofu on the countertop, and just as he was about to serve them, he unexpectedly saw a shadow in front of the master bedroom, which startled him.
The shadow, however, remained calm, "Mr. Ji, you’re up?"
It was Le Tong in the shadow.
Ji Rui composed himself, "Yes, I’m sorry for waking you."
Le Tong yawned, "No, I got up at this time."
As she spoke, she flipped on the living room light with a click.
Ji Rui bent over to place the soup and food on the coffee table, then looked up at her in surprise, "Why are you up so early at just past five?"
Le Tong deftly tied her hair into a ponytail and followed Ji Rui into the kitchen.
"I have to prepare breakfast and lunch for Baobao, then wake him up for morning exercise and have breakfast with him before leaving."
Le Tong didn’t mention having to return to the Ji Family 15 minutes early to make coffee for him, but Ji Rui immediately remembered and felt very guilty.
"You can just get to work on time from now on; no need to come in 15 minutes early."
Ji Rui really wanted to advise her not to work too hard, but he’d tried this many times before, only for her to reject his suggestion, so he dared not bring it up repeatedly.
"It’s alright, I go to bed early, so I wake up around this time every day."
Le Tong wasn’t exaggerating. Ever since Baobao started living with her, her routine resembled that of a retired elder enjoying their twilight years.
In the past, after work, she’d occasionally go out for drinks and karaoke with Luo Yuanyuan and the others, and most weekends, they’d go hiking or play sports.
But now, her life revolves around Baobao, and nothing but Baobao!
[Baobao pitifully tugged at her sleeve, "Sister, where’s your ticket..."]
