Chapter 1048 - 1046: Sick and Vulnerable
Chapter 1048 - 1046: Sick and Vulnerable
"Are you asleep?"Technically, it’s not even nine o’clock yet, and the chances of Zhu Qianyu being asleep are low.
But her reaction was noticeably slower than usual, which made Ji Huan suspect this possibility, especially since her voice sounded a bit off.
"Mm..."
Even though he asked if she was asleep, Ji Huan was still a bit surprised by the affirmative answer.
"It’s not even nine o’clock, sleeping so early? Are you feeling unwell?" Ji Huan couldn’t help but worry.
"Yeah... caught a bit of a cold..."
Only then did Ji Huan confirm that her voice indeed sounded unusual, carrying a heavy nasal tone.
"Have you taken any medicine?"
Ji Huan switched to headphones while inserting the car key into the ignition. Although, he preferred listening to her calls directly through the phone, as it made him feel closer to her.
There was another bout of silence on the other end. Ji Huan had already backed the car out of the parking spot when he heard her say, "No, it’s not severe, a sleep will fix it!"
Ji Huan frowned, "You can’t go without medicine! You tell me, will you take medicine or go to the hospital?"
Ji Huan rarely asserted himself with her, but now he gave her a two-choice ultimatum.
"I... really, it’s nothing..."
"Alright, I’m taking you to the hospital!" Ji Huan said firmly, leaving no room for negotiation.
"Ji Huan..." Zhu Qianyu’s nasal-tinged voice sounded a bit weary.
"Speak up, I’m listening!" Ji Huan’s tone unconsciously softened.
"I’m really okay..."
This girl, stubborn even when ill!
Ji Huan gritted his teeth and said harshly, "Zhu Qianyu, if you don’t treat yourself as a human, you won’t allow anyone to care about you, right? Do you believe I’ll immediately call your sister and have her rush over to take you to the hospital? After all, Young Master Yan’s family has private planes, and it takes only two to three hours to fly over."
Perhaps it was Ji Huan’s tone that scared her, or maybe it was the mention of calling her sister. Whatever the reason, Zhu Qianyu quickly responded without much thought.
"It’s really just a small matter, I accidentally got drenched this afternoon and have a slight fever now..."
Young Master Yan finally breathed a slight sigh of relief, "Is the fever bad? Any other discomfort?"
"Not bad, I just checked, it’s thirty-eight degrees, nothing else uncomfortable." Zhu Qianyu learned her lesson and clearly stated her symptoms.
"Alright, I’ll bring medicine, does your dorm have a curfew?"
"Yeah, eleven o’clock."
"Okay, I’m near your school now, I’ll buy the medicine and come by, roughly in ten minutes, you stay put and don’t move around." Ji Huan said as he carefully looked around to see where there might be a pharmacy.
"Oh..." Zhu Qianyu no longer resisted.
"Did you have dinner?"
"I did, my roommate helped get the food."
Ji Huan knew that people with fevers generally have little appetite, "Alright, I’ll bring some rice porridge over, is there anything else you want? I’ll get it together."
Zhu Qianyu remained silent for a long time but didn’t hang up. Ji Huan wasn’t in a rush, letting the call stay connected, as her fluctuating breaths were also a sort of enjoyment.
For someone who hadn’t contacted her in a month, it was a luxury!
After what felt like ages, long enough that Ji Huan thought she had fallen asleep, he finally heard her say, "I want to eat soup dumplings, can I?"
Young Master Yan couldn’t help but curl his lips; indeed, a little girl!
"Of course you can!"
"From the fifth shop near the South Gate of the school!" Zhu Qianyu mumbled in addition.
Young Master Yan almost couldn’t help but laugh, "Alright, the fifth shop near the South Gate of the school, anything else?"
Turns out, this little girl does know how to act spoiled. However, due to her special family background, where she lacked parental love, she dared not even have a bit of whimsy.
Young Master Yan’s smile slowly faded, replaced by heartache and sorrow.
"No, that’s it..."
"Alright, be good, you sleep for a while, I’ll come by once I buy the medicine and dumplings." Young Master Yan’s words were full of affection and tolerance.
"Oh... then... bye-bye." Zhu Qianyu’s voice carried a hint of reluctance.
Young Master Yan’s heart tightened, "Mm, see you soon."
Young Master Yan quickly bought the medicine and specifically went to the dumpling shop designated by Zhu Qianyu to buy soup dumplings, also taking the opportunity to pack a dish of scallop porridge from the adjacent Hong Kong-style restaurant.
Twenty minutes later, he knocked on the door to Zhu Qianyu’s dorm.
Of course, the girls’ dorm typically doesn’t allow male visitors at night.
But Ji Huan has the dual identity of a substitute teacher and basketball club advisor at R University, plus he was carrying a large bag of medicine, claiming to be delivering it and food to his cousin in room 806. The dorm supervisor auntie loved seeing handsome young men, especially with Young Master Yan’s face, which was even more charming than the popular ones these days. She asked nothing further and waved him into the hallway.
The door opened by a girl in her twenties, who upon seeing Ji Huan, smiled and nodded, "Are you Coach Ji?"
Looks like the dorm supervisor had regained her senses and called upstairs to confirm.
Indeed, relying solely on looks doesn’t work!
"Yes, has Xiao Yu gotten any better?" Ji Huan deliberately lowered his voice to ask.
"She got caught in the rain this afternoon and has been sleeping since; she didn’t eat much dinner, and she refused to go to the clinic when we suggested it. The dorm happened to run out of medicine." Generally speaking, the chance of students getting sick is low, plus there’s a 24-hour sick bay, so the students don’t have the habit of storing medicine.
Ji Huan slipped into the dorm, "Which is her bed?"
The roommate pointed to the last bed on the left, "The upper bunk of the last bed on the left, upper bunk."
Before Ji Huan could go over, the curtain of that bed lifted, revealing Zhu Qianyu’s rosy face from underneath, "Ji Huan, you’re here..."
Ji Huan approached and, without thinking, reached to touch her face.
After softly caressing, he realized something was off, subtly shifting his hand to her forehead.
Zhu Qianyu’s originally flushed face seemed to become even redder.
"Mm... the fever isn’t severe..."
Ji Huan said while his fingers inadvertently brushed across her forehead and cheeks, leaving Zhu Qianyu feeling like she was burning up!
"Can you get up?" Ji Huan gently asked her.
Zhu Qianyu nodded and quickly retreated behind the pink curtains.
Ji Huan asked through the curtain, "Your roommate said you didn’t eat much dinner, should we eat some porridge and soup dumplings first? It’s not good to take medicine on an empty stomach."
From inside the curtain came Zhu Qianyu’s muffled response, "Oh..."
Ji Huan sorted the bags of items and handed one big bag to the girl who had opened the door for him.
"Here, these are for you guys to enjoy."
