Chapter 1038 - 1036: Afraid I Can’t Control My Heart
Although Zhu Qianyu was worried about her sister, she could only feel anxious about it. Even though she knew that Young Master Yan was not someone easy to deal with, she was powerless to change anything. She could only secretly pray in her heart for her sister to have good luck and hope that the mysterious and peculiar Young Master Yan would treat her sincerely.
Zhu Qianyu did not tell Ji Huan about her sister eventually passing the selection.
After all, it’s her private matter, and it’s not appropriate to bother Ji Huan about it all the time.
Time quickly flew by to the start of the school term, and Tian Fang offered to take Zhu Qianyu back for registration, packing most of her luggage to bring back to school. The remaining small part was left in the dormitory.
Tian Fang mentioned that the dormitory would be kept for her, and she could live there when she came over for work on the weekends.
Zhu Qianyu was deeply grateful for this and after receiving her internship salary, she announced that she wanted to treat Tian Fang and the people from the crew to dinner.
This meal almost took up half of her internship salary, but since she had enough money on hand, she didn’t mind.
It was Tian Fang who, after finding out about the cost of the meal, felt quite guilty and instructed her to write a reimbursement application.
Zhu Qianyu refused initially, but eventually could not oppose Tian Fang and wrote the application as suggested.
Ji Huan had been very busy during this period; ever since Xinying had met Zhu Qianyu, the two hadn’t run into each other at all. Occasionally, they would send messages to check in on each other, but not frequently.
Ji Huan was busy, and Zhu Qianyu, on the other hand, had intentionally widened the distance between them due to a casual remark from her sister.
At the time, she told her sister that Xinying agreed to let her continue working as a student worker on weekends.
Her sister casually murmured, "Was it your foreign language teacher who helped again? He is being excessively nice to you, isn’t he?"
Later, Zhu Qianyu thought over it and felt her sister’s speculation made sense.
Although it was Tian Fang who promised her about the student work, it seemed unlikely that Ji Huan wasn’t involved in facilitating it.
As for Ji Huan, she basically only had a good impression of him now.
Of course, she also kept in mind that he was a married man. In everyday interactions, she was always careful to maintain the boundaries of friendship.
The closest moment was when she inquired him about Young Master Yan.
Yet even during that time, there was no inappropriate behavior between the two.
From all this time of interaction, she could almost be certain that he was a very gentlemanly, very respectful man towards women.
She could even be sure that even if he did have other intentions toward her, he would never force her if she refused.
But the problem was, she was afraid she couldn’t control her heart.
A man like Ji Huan—handsome, well-learned, humorous, and exceptionally cultured; such a man, even strangers who barely know him would easily have their attention drawn to him.
Moreover, he had helped her quite a bit during this period; he had even acted as a confidant brother for a good while.
Her good impression of him had ascended to the point where she herself felt scared.
On the third day of returning to school, during the philosophy class, Zhu Qianyu absentmindedly drifted off, and Fang Ziqing, sitting beside her, poked her with a pen, sliding a piece of white paper with a line written on it under her eyes.
"Little Bamboo, are you in a relationship?"
Zhu Qianyu froze for a moment, picked up her pen, and added a big "NO" after her line.
How could a person without a romantic partner be in a relationship?
"Do you want to be?"
Fang Ziqing wrote another line and slid it over. Without even thinking, Zhu Qianyu once again added a big "NO" right after it.
Finally, enduring until the end of class, Fang Ziqing who was ready to slip away with her backpack was suddenly stopped by Zhu Qianyu.
"Zi Qing, there’s an activity today in the club."
Fang Ziqing wore a look of agony and pleaded, "Little Bamboo, can you let me off? I don’t even know how to play basketball! Dragging me like forced recruitment to make up numbers, is this really okay?"
Zhu Qianyu didn’t bother to explain, firmly holding her arm and dragging her to the playground.
Most of the activities in the basketball club were held on the basketball court, needless to say.
"Hey, doesn’t that look like Mr. Ji?"
Zhu Qianyu dismissed her friend’s attempt to distract her, not paying any attention, forcefully pulling her onto a stone bench, and lowered her head. Taking two pairs of basketball shoes out of her bag, she tossed one pair to her.
"Quit whining, change your shoes."
"But... hey... Hello, Mr. Ji!" Fang Ziqing called out loudly.
Zhu Qianyu kept assuming she was joking. Muttering "idiot" under her breath, she bent down, took off her boots, and carefully threaded the laces into her basketball shoes.
It was around four in the afternoon, and the sun was still quite intense. With her head hanging down, Zhu Qianyu felt a bit woozy from the sun, when suddenly, a shadow swept over, covering her densely in the shade.
Her eyes shifted slightly, spotting a pair of large feet wearing basketball shoes next to her. Her gaze followed these feet belonging to a man all the way up, noticing the loose basketball shorts on his straight long legs, and the well-built upper body clad in a matching basketball vest.
What a great build!
Zhu Qianyu secretly praised in her heart as her gaze moved up to the face of the person beside her.
She met eyes with a handsome face adorned with a smile.
"Hi!"
The owner of the handsome face gazed down at her, thin lips slightly parted, a smile brighter than sunshine gracing his face.
Zhu Qianyu straightened herself, "Hi!" Despite her efforts to conjure up a smile, she could not hide the startled expression on her face.
"Did I scare you?" Ji Huan, with a smile at the corner of his mouth, sat down next to her.
Knowing she couldn’t hide it, Zhu Qianyu nodded honestly, "A bit!"
Turning her head to look for Fang Ziqing, she discovered that the girl had sneaked off at some point!
"Fang Ziqing went over there to buy drinks!" The perpetrator who paid to have her sent away spoke up to solve her confusion.
With no option left, Zhu Qianyu continued to bow her head and tie her shoelaces, her questioning directed at Ji Huan tinged with a stuffy feeling.
"Why’ve you come over here? Don’t you need to be at work?"
Ji Huan also bent down, picked up her other basketball shoe, deftly lacing it up.
"To exercise!"
He answered unhurriedly, placing the shoe with laced shoelaces at her feet.
"Thank you..." Zhu Qianyu received the shoe, her face burning with shame.
She couldn’t even remember the last time someone tied her shoelaces.
Was it when she was four or five years old?
Or perhaps five or six years old?
Feeling embarrassed, Zhu Qianyu took an exceptionally long time to put on this side of her shoes.
If possible, she really wished this shoe could take the entire time until the club activity ended to put on.
Of course, that was definitely impossible.
"What’s the matter? Want me to help you put it on?" Ji Huan’s slightly teasing voice sounded in her ear.
"No... no need!" Zhu Qianyu’s hands moved significantly faster.
Though this man was always a gentleman.
That didn’t mean he wouldn’t dare to kneel in front of so many people to help her wear basketball shoes and tie the laces.
