Chapter 9: There Are Surveillance Cameras Here??
Red-Hair’s shrill voice, paired with his bloodshot eyes, really did make him look aggrieved.
The officer turned to look at Li Mu.
But before Li Mu could speak, Xiao Lingtong suddenly shouted from the crowd,
“That’s not what happened, Officer! This instructor beat our students for no reason at all!”
“He tried to hit Li Mu, and Li Mu dodged. Then he kept pressing the issue! That’s why Li Mu fought back!”
One stone stirred a thousand waves.
All the Blackwater High School students instantly erupted.
“Yes!!”
“That’s right! He was the one bullying people first!”
“Please investigate clearly, Officer!”
“Shut up!! All of you shut up!!” Red-Hair roared madly.
He had not expected that once the wall fell, everyone would kick it. So many students actually dared to step on him now.
Slap!
The Wolf Guard officer backhanded him across the face.
“What kind of disgraceful shouting is this?!”
Then the officer turned to his adjutant. “Pull up the surveillance footage here for me!”
“Yes, sir!” The adjutant immediately took out his phone and began operating it.
Red-Hair was instantly horrified.
There were surveillance cameras here?
How did he not know that??
Otherwise, he would never have dared pull something like this.
The only reason he had dared act this way was because he had heard that some officers did the same thing.
And the female students they had toyed with simply did not dare speak out.
Partly because they wanted to protect their reputations, and partly because they feared the power of the Abyss Suppression Army.
Even the Blackwater High School students began looking around, but they could not spot any cameras anywhere.
They had originally been worried.
With no evidence beyond words, and both sides telling different stories,
if this officer chose to side with Red-Hair, there would have been nothing they could do.
But after watching the footage, the officer’s eyes flared with surging fury.
He turned to Red-Hair and said coldly,
“Investigate who approved this piece of trash to serve as an instructor!”
One of the patrol guards acknowledged the order and jogged off.
Red-Hair, meanwhile, was trembling from head to toe in fright.
“For scum like you, I really can never clean this army thoroughly enough!”
“Drag him away, and send this footage to the Law Enforcement Department along with him!”
the officer ordered coldly.
The moment he heard the words “Law Enforcement Department,” Red-Hair’s remaining left leg went weak on the spot.
An unidentified liquid came pouring out of his crotch.
The two assistant instructors quickly acknowledged the order and prepared to take him to the Medical Department first.
The medical capabilities of the High-Martial World were extremely advanced. As long as it was within a certain period of time,
reattaching severed limbs was not a problem.
“You are not allowed to go to the Medical Department. Send him directly to the Law Enforcement Department!”
the officer barked coldly, and the last bit of hope hanging in Red-Hair’s heart died completely.
They were not even going to treat his leg??
But there was nothing he could do. Medical resources were also in short supply.
So many fine soldiers were wounded on the battlefield and still struggled to receive proper treatment.
How could they possibly waste even the slightest bit of medical resources on worthless trash like him?
After the instructors had been taken away, the officer finally turned toward Li Mu.
“What is your name?”
“Li Mu!”
The officer clearly did not know Li Mu, and showed no surprise.
“I am asking you this. Was that Flowing Cloud Three Tremors you used just now?”
“Yes.” Li Mu nodded.
“Then why were there five tremors?” the officer asked directly.
“I studied it on my own and made a breakthrough,” Li Mu replied, neither humble nor overbearing.
The officer nodded, then turned toward the students of Blackwater High School.
“Take out your phones and start recording!”
The Blackwater High School students were all confused, but they did as they were told.
Once everyone had started recording,
the officer faced Li Mu solemnly and declared in a clear voice,
“I am Qin Zhanye, a Wolf Guard of the Abyss Suppression Army! I need your help with something. Would you be willing to come with me?”
Li Mu had been puzzled at first.
But he quickly understood.
Qin Zhanye had all the students take out their phones and start recording.
Then he identified himself and asked Li Mu to accompany him.
He was doing this to reassure both Li Mu and everyone else that he was not taking Li Mu away to retaliate over what had just happened.
It was for something else.
If anything happened to Li Mu, they would be able to expose him.
Since the man had been so open and forthright, Li Mu naturally could not very well refuse.
“All right.” Li Mu nodded.
“Good. Arrange a new instructor for them. You, come with me!”
Qin Zhanye nodded. The first half was directed at his subordinates, and the second half was for Li Mu.
Then he strode off in front of him.
His entire bearing radiated uprightness and candor.
From the moment he appeared until now, Li Mu noticed that he had not wasted a single word on irrelevant nonsense!
Li Mu followed Qin Zhanye to the front of a steel fortress.
A line of words was written on the sign above it.
【Major Categories Cultivation Art Research Department.】
The guards at the entrance straightened and saluted.
“Wolf Guard Qin!”
Qin Zhanye nodded. “I brought someone to see Minister Song and Professor Xu.”
“I will go report your arrival.”
One of the guards quickly jogged inside.
Li Mu was inwardly surprised. He did not know what this Major Categories Cultivation Art Research Department was for.
But Qin Zhanye’s rank as a Wolf Guard clearly carried some weight.
And yet even here, he could not simply walk in. He still had to report his arrival and wait!
Not long after, the guard came jogging back.
“Wolf Guard, please enter. Minister Song and Professor Xu are in a meeting. You may go in and wait. The meeting will end shortly.”
“All right!”
Qin Zhanye beckoned to Li Mu and led the way inside.
The moment he entered the research department, Li Mu immediately understood Qin Zhanye’s purpose completely.
Inside the department, the people coming and going were all civilian staff in ordinary clothes.
And on the walls, the names of one cultivation art after another were all common Mortal-Grade techniques.
Blade arts, spear arts, sword arts, staff arts…
With just a casual glance through the spear and staff sections, Li Mu saw Flowing Cloud Three Tremors listed there.
All cultivation arts were produced by people sharing their own insights and understanding of those arts.
And this place
was where the Abyss Suppression Army mass-produced Mortal-Grade cultivation arts.
Qin Zhanye brought Li Mu to the door of a conference room.
A man dressed like an assistant had already come forward to greet them.
He gave Qin Zhanye an apologetic smile and lowered his voice.
“Wolf Guard Qin, the minister is in a meeting. Please wait a moment.”
Qin Zhanye nodded.
Then he stood there like a stone monument.
It annoyed Li Mu so much he almost laughed.
“Wolf Guard Qin, are you not planning to ask for my opinion?” Li Mu asked.
“Hm? Did you not already agree?” Qin Zhanye froze.
“I agreed to come with you for a trip. I did not agree to let you do whatever you want,” Li Mu said speechlessly.
“Uh…”
Qin Zhanye was momentarily at a loss for words. “That is true!”
The assistant at the side looked completely baffled as his gaze moved back and forth between the two of them.
“Then let me ask you first. Do you know what this place is?”
“I only understand part of it.” Li Mu shook his head.
Qin Zhanye nodded and drew in a deep breath.
“In the war against the Abyss, the casualty rate remains high year after year.
“Students like you can at least stay in school and study your fill before coming down into the Abyss.
“But many Martial Artists leave school for one reason or another.
“Some people, when they join the Abyss Suppression Army, only know internal cultivation methods!
“So the Abyss Suppression Army has to distribute large numbers of low-grade cultivation arts for free.
“This place is the Abyss Suppression Army’s Cultivation Art Research Department.
“This department has many cultivation art specialists. Their comprehension is extremely high, and they are highly proficient in those arts, constantly refining them further.
“They mass-produce Mortal-Grade cultivation arts. Like hens laying eggs one after another.
“Nourishing the fresh blood of the Abyss Suppression Army.”
Qin Zhanye spoke with great solemnity.
But the assistant at the side rolled his eyes repeatedly.
What kind of ridiculous metaphor was that?
If you cannot make a metaphor, then just speak plainly. Who are you calling hens??
“So that means you brought me here because…?”
Li Mu prompted him to continue.
“Among Mortal-Grade cultivation arts, spear arts are a major category.
“And among spear arts, Flowing Cloud Three Tremors has a very high rate of use.
“I want you to share your insights with them and see whether they can improve it even further.
“Of course, if this works out, you will be rewarded according to your contribution. Your effort will not be for nothing.”
Qin Zhanye had finally understood what Li Mu meant and took the initiative to mention a reward.
“Go into detail about the reward…” Li Mu cleared his throat.
