Chapter 1214: The Strongest White Tiger and the True Dragon of Divine Land

Chapter 1214: The Strongest White Tiger and the True Dragon of Divine Land

Early Monday morning.

The sky was overcast. Though it was already spring, the southern chill was a kind of elemental damage—no matter how thick the socks, the cold still seeped up through the soles, bringing discomfort.

The “Rising Yang Duo” of the Management Bureau weren’t exactly roughing it, but since they were on a surveillance mission, they couldn’t stray far from their target.

On the rooftop of the building opposite Zhao Le’s home—

Bu Bugao was huddled beside Wang Hu, utterly exhausted after standing watch all night. He tightened his coat and leaned closer against Wang Hu’s broad back.

Once he felt the big guy’s body heat, a wave of warmth spread over him.

He really couldn’t hold out anymore.

“Wang Hu, I’m gonna nap a bit. If anything happens, wake me right away.”

“Okay.”

Wang Hu responded simply, then lifted his head toward the gloomy sky. He stretched out his hand—raindrops tapped softly against his palm. There was a faint liveliness in the falling rain, and the air carried a subtle tremor… Wang Hu frowned. The next moment, his dull eyes sharpened, gleaming.

Bu Bugao, who had just closed his eyes, suddenly lost his support. He blinked awake to see Wang Hu bending his knees—and then leaping into the air!

“Wang Hu?! Where are you going?!”

Bu Bugao jolted fully awake, only to see Wang Hu’s figure growing smaller against the clouds.

Whoosh—

The pet hospital was only three stories tall, the shortest building around. A figure slowly descended from the sky, landing neatly on its roof.

Long Xiruo covered her mouth as she yawned. She had just flown around the entire Divine Land in a short span, setting up spiritual energy seals. It was exhausting—mentally, at least.

Physically speaking, the True Dragon of Divine Land possessed limitless stamina.

“I’ll take a shower, then sleep for a bit…” Long Xiruo muttered, rolling her shoulders and rotating her arms to ease the stiffness.

The light rain had already soaked her hair, leaving it damp and uncomfortable.

But just as she took a step forward, she suddenly sensed something. Looking up in confusion, she saw a figure diving straight down toward the hospital roof.

Long Xiruo frowned—and the next moment, the figure landed silently before her.

The landing was controlled, no tremor in the structure—the person’s mastery of force was flawless. When Long Xiruo finally saw the face, her lips parted slightly in surprise.

Though he was missing an arm, the powerful physique and unmistakable aura of a member of the Four Celestial Spirits were obvious.

Huang Baifu?

The True Dragon of Divine Land froze briefly as she recalled his background. It was said that during the Mount Tai incident, Huang Baifu had vanished along with Baijie and others in the Penglai Treasure Vault. Later, everyone else escaped—except Huang Baifu, who was never seen again.

Even after the Mount Tai crisis ended, Huang Baifu never returned to the White Tiger clan, which had since fallen into chaos.

Originally, Huang Baifu wasn’t the designated successor to the White Tiger lineage. He was a half-Demon, born of the previous White Tiger and a human woman. Few knew this secret—only a handful of upper-level officials within the Management Bureau were aware.

As a child, Huang Baifu was neglected; his father didn’t even bother to raise him, treating him like an unwanted byproduct of lust.

His mother, unable to bear the shame, hanged herself soon after giving birth.

From then on, Huang Baifu vanished into the secret forest of the White Tiger clan. Decades later, he suddenly reappeared, challenging one young genius after another within the tribe. Finally, on an auspicious clan day, he outright killed the previous White Tiger.

To this day, the old White Tiger’s corpse still hung from a mountain peak—where Huang Baifu’s mother had been buried.

After that, Huang Baifu ruled the entire White Tiger clan through sheer, overwhelming power. In a short time, he even crushed the other three branches of the Four Celestial Spirits, earning the title “the strongest White Tiger in history.”

Though his reputation wasn’t exactly good, his strength was unmatched among the Four Celestial Spirits—some even claimed he could rival the True Dragon of Divine Land.

Of course, that was just flattery. Huang Baifu wasn’t foolish enough to believe he could defeat the True Dragon, and Long Xiruo certainly wasn’t interested in fighting just to prove her superiority.

Their meetings were limited—just a few polite greetings during past Penglai Grand Gatherings, nothing more.

Then came the Mount Tai incident. Huang Baifu disappeared afterward, leaving the White Tiger clan leaderless. His half-brother, a direct heir of the former White Tiger, had since emerged under the banner of legitimacy, gathering Huang Baifu’s followers back under his control.

As these thoughts passed through her mind, Long Xiruo studied Huang Baifu—his missing arm, the old scar already healed.

She recalled being close to him once in the Penglai Treasure Vault, though they never actually met face-to-face before she left.

Could that arm have been lost there?

The memory of the mass-produced Gaia constructs from the Treasure Vault made her scalp tingle. Even then, she had only partially awakened her True Dragon powers through Kui Qianyi’s divine pearl—and without the constant support of the earth’s energy.

Even so, wielding half of the Xuanyuan Godslayer Sword, she hadn’t managed to gain the upper hand against the so-called Treasury Administrator Gaia—and was nearly killed instead.

If not for what happened later…

The thought made her irritable. Why did that always come to mind? Damn it.

“When did you get out?”

Long Xiruo took two steps toward Huang Baifu. “Why aren’t you back ruling your own turf? What are you doing here? I heard your dear Big Bro is expanding his influence like crazy.”

Hearing her confused questioning, Huang Baifu—no, Wang Hu—showed a flicker of bewilderment in his eyes.

Long Xiruo frowned. Something felt off. This Huang Baifu… didn’t seem quite the same as she remembered.

Had he turned into an idiot?

“You… you know me?” Wang Hu was silent for a moment before he finally spoke.

Long Xiruo blinked. There weren’t many people in this world who could lie before the True Dragon of Divine Land. In an instant, she thought of a possibility and said in disbelief, “Don’t tell me—you’ve lost your memory?”

“I really have forgotten everything from before,” Wang Hu admitted without hesitation. His current personality was straightforward—he said what he meant.

Long Xiruo was slightly taken aback, then asked, “Then how did you think to come looking for me?”

If he was sick, of course he would seek treatment. It wasn’t unusual for demons from the Demon World to come to her for help—but if Huang Baifu had amnesia, how could he have thought of her specifically?

Wang Hu said slowly, “I felt a very strong aura… and then my body just started moving on its own, all the way here. You’re powerful—my instincts told me I might not be able to beat you… but I still wanted to try.”

Even with his memory gone, that combative instinct still ruled his actions.

Long Xiruo shook her head and waved her hand. “Forget fighting. I’m not in the mood lately. Besides, I don’t want to give you trauma. Come with me—I’ll take a look and see why you lost your memory.”

Wang Hu suddenly moved—without warning, he leapt and kicked at her!

Long Xiruo’s anger flared. She reached out with one hand and shouted, “Damn it! What are you doing? Trying to wreck my hospital?!”

Before the kick could land, Wang Hu’s body froze midair, caught by an invisible hand that gripped him tightly.

He struggled a few times but couldn’t break free. Veins bulged on his forehead as something fiery inside his body awakened from slumber, forcing the invisible hand to loosen slightly!

Long Xiruo frowned and snorted coldly. “If you dare transform into the White Tiger here, I’ll tear off your tiger whip and soak it in wine… Seal!”

The immense power of the True Dragon surged from all directions, instantly suppressing the scorching energy inside Wang Hu. It cooled down at once and sank back into dormancy.

Only then did Long Xiruo release her grip. Wang Hu fell heavily to the ground, his face pale.

“I really can’t beat you,” Wang Hu said slowly as he stood up—then turned to leave.

That left the True Dragon of Divine Land completely dumbfounded. So this guy really came all the way here just to pick a fight?!

No—wait, wasn’t this guy suffering from amnesia?

“Hold on!” Long Xiruo called out.

“?”

Long Xiruo sighed. “In your current state, I’m a bit uneasy. Let me take a look and see if I can—”

Before she could finish, someone vaulted over the rooftop railing of the pet hospital.

“Wang Hu! What are you running for… I’m exhausted!”

Bu Bugao stumbled up, panting heavily, a metal rod in his hand. A thin steel cable was attached to one end, leading to a grappling claw still hooked onto the railing.

Wang… Hu?

Long Xiruo frowned again.

Bu Bugao finally noticed the stunning woman standing nearby and blurted, “And you are—?”

“I—I’m really sorry!! Truly sorry!!”

Inside Long Xiruo’s office, Bu Bugao was drenched in cold sweat. If not for fear of being too rude, he would’ve knelt down in tears by now.

He knew Wang Hu liked to spar with strong demons—but who would’ve thought that big idiot actually went straight to the True Dragon of Divine Land’s home!

She was one of the Management Bureau’s highest consultants. She rarely involved herself in Bureau affairs, but if she disliked someone, even a word from her could ruin that person’s career.

“You’re saying his name is Wang Hu, a South China Tiger spirit… and he’s your support partner?”

“Y-yes, Lord Long! This—this is Wang Hu’s identification!”

When Bu Bugao handed over the ID, Long Xiruo’s expression turned strange—it was genuine, not forged.

That raised questions. Even if Huang Baifu seldom appeared in human society, with his level of danger, the Bureau should definitely have records on him.

How on earth did this guy pass background checks? Were all the personnel officers idiots?

No… Personnel Department.

Long Xiruo immediately opened her drawer and rummaged through it. At last, she pulled out a thick stack of documents from the very bottom.

As she flipped through them, her eyes narrowed.

The file listed the deputy director of the Personnel Department—Huang Mutian.

Others might not know, but Long Xiruo certainly did: Huang Mutian was the maternal uncle of Huang Baifu’s half-brother.

“As I thought…” Long Xiruo sneered coldly.

They wanted to cover up Huang Baifu’s amnesia to let his brother seize power? How laughable. Even demons had started playing at human-style politics.

Still… the strongest White Tiger joining the Management Bureau?

Was that fate—or pure accident?

She glanced at Wang Hu, who stood beside Bu Bugao like a block of wood, and her eyes narrowed slightly.

“I’ll pretend none of this ever happened,” Long Xiruo finally said, setting the file down. “Since your support partner is new and doesn’t understand much yet, I won’t pursue the matter.”

“Lord Long, you’re most gracious!” Bu Bugao exclaimed in relief.

He looked ready to pile on more flattery, but Long Xiruo waved him off. “Enough. If there’s nothing else, go. I don’t like being disturbed.”

“Yes, understood! But… Lord Long, I do have one favor to ask.”

“What is it?”

Bu Bugao glanced at Wang Hu, scratched his head, and said, “My buddy here seems to have lost his memory… Could you please treat him, Lord Long?”

Long Xiruo paused. She could see through people easily. From the moment Bu Bugao appeared and shared how he met Wang Hu, she had already guessed what he was thinking.

After a moment of thought, she said, “Since Wang Hu has lost his memory, his nature is like a blank sheet of paper. It’ll be easier for you to supervise him. But if he regains his memory one day, he might leave you. You’re okay with that?”

“Well…”

Bu Bugao hesitated, then shook his head. “It’d be a pity, sure, but still… look, I have parents. If I ever forgot who they were, that’d be miserable. Same goes for him—whether he’s a demon or not, those memories are his right to have, aren’t they?”

Hearing that, Long Xiruo gave him a long, thoughtful look. A Bureau agent who actually sympathized with demons?

At the same time, Wang Hu glanced sideways at Bu Bugao. “Bu…”

“It’s fine, it’s fine!” Bu Bugao smiled cheerfully. “If you get your memory back, I know you won’t forget me! You’ll be smarter then, and we’ll work better as partners. We’re a team, after all!”

“I won’t forget you,” Wang Hu nodded firmly. His speech was still simple and direct. “I promise.”

Watching them, Long Xiruo’s lips curved upward slightly.

This Huang Baifu… she suddenly didn’t feel like treating him anymore.
