Chapter 1062: How Could There Be a Path to Immortality in This World? (70) — Song Haoran the MVP
(Note: I changed the name Xu Ge on Chapter 1052 to Glasses.)
Although 'Zhan’er' removed the thin violet needle Ba Qi had stabbed into him, a strange sensation began creeping through him, causing his expression to shift repeatedly... Suddenly, he felt like he was losing control over the body he had possessed.
“You…” 'Zhan’er' looked at Ba Qi with intense hatred.
“Uncomfortable, isn’t it?” Ba Qi said with a smile. “I’ve studied the way of souls for who knows how many years—countless soul possession experiments. Even if you're the remnant soul of an ancient god, did you really think you were invincible? Ever heard of adapting with the times? I’ve disrupted your compatibility with this body, drastically lowering your resonance. Now, how much power can you actually use? The original owner of this body is waking up to fight you for control!”
“A mere mortal dares challenge this emperor?!” 'Zhan’er's expression twisted.
His left hand began twitching involuntarily.
“The original owner can’t defeat you… but I don’t need him to win,” Ba Qi suddenly charged forward. “Just stalling you is enough!!”
From Ba Qi’s outstretched hand, eight translucent purple tentacle-like things shot out—on closer inspection, they were actually eight savage snake heads!
They instantly coiled around 'Zhan’er's body and bit down on various parts of him!
“Xiangliu?” 'Zhan’er' was stunned! At the same time, Ren Zhen struck, darting forward and slamming a heavy palm onto 'Zhan’er's head.
Two overlapping, agonized screams echoed from 'Zhan’er's mouth!
“That divine trace in your remnant soul… it’s mine now!!” Ba Qi’s eyes burned with intensity.
Though it was only a remnant soul, the divine trace it carried was real—far more potent than the pseudo-divinity Ba Qi had once obtained in the Voidless Moon World!
The eight purple snake heads latched onto 'Zhan’er' began greedily drawing in that divine essence.
“You dare steal this emperor’s divine essence?!!” 'Zhan’er' roared in pain, his trembling hands forcefully breaking free from the snakes’ grip. His palms pointed at the altar.
The altar suddenly trembled, bursting with blinding light that filled the massive tomb chamber.
Ba Qi could feel a terrifying force surging from ‘Zhan’er,’ rapidly breaking free from his control—faster and faster. He was about to completely reverse the tide!
Ba Qi panicked, gritting his teeth and shouting toward the bronze-masked man observing from a distance, “Don’t just stand there! If he absorbs the altar’s full power and breaks free, none of us will escape becoming sacrifices!”
But the bronze-masked man remained still.
“You fool!” Ba Qi raged. “You really think this guy can resurrect the person in that coffin? You’ll end up buried with him instead!”
'Zhan’er' suddenly interjected coldly, “This emperor has already promised to resurrect him. I will not go back on my word. Help me defeat these two heretics!”
“Don’t believe him!! I can help you resurrect him too!” Ba Qi barked, desperate.
“Then tell me how,” said the bronze-masked man calmly.
“How do I know you won’t screw me over afterward?” Ba Qi snorted.
The situation had reached a strange deadlock—Ren Zhen and Ba Qi, former top-tier figures of the Divine Land, were doing everything they could to suppress the ancient god’s remnant soul, but no one knew how long they could hold on. Everything now hinged on the bronze-masked man.
He suddenly pressed his hand onto the altar.
The altar shook again, and the blinding light began flowing down to the crystal pillars throughout the tomb like liquid streams.
But just as the streams were about to be absorbed into the pillars, they halted.
The bronze-masked man was reversing the altar’s devouring force, trying to return the absorbed soul energy—but stopped at the final moment.
“I just want results,” he said flatly. “Whoever helps me, I’ll help them.”
“Damn it… You’re a madman too!”
Ba Qi cursed. “Listen! That guy in the crystal coffin—he was a Daoist, right? A Daoist’s three souls and seven spirits don’t fade so easily! From what I can tell, he’s only been dead for a few decades. His soul and spirit can’t be gone! If we can find even one soul and one spirit fragment, I can bring him back to life!”
“How?” the bronze-masked man remained skeptical. “I tried to preserve his soul fragments and rekindle his life using the Seven-Star Life-Lighting Lamp, but couldn’t find them. I’ve searched for decades using Ziwei astrology and found nothing. What method do you have?”
“Hahaha! This Demon can only retrieve one soul and one spirit?” 'Zhan’er' sneered. “I can reassemble all of them from heaven and earth! I can give you a complete soul! Help me absorb the soul energy from the altar, and I can even grant you immortality!”
The bronze-masked man stood still. He didn’t resist the altar anymore, but he also didn’t remove his hand. He only shook his head slightly. “I’m not interested in immortality. Like I said—prove it. Whoever proves their worth, I help.”
“This emperor is under attack—how can I prove anything now?!” 'Zhan’er' shouted angrily.
“Brother, if I let go, we’re all screwed! You’re being unreasonable!” Ba Qi panted.
Just then, a sharp sound rang through the tomb.
Something had pierced through 'Zhan’er's head!
“Huh?” Ba Qi froze and instinctively looked over.
At the tomb entrance, Song Haoran had somehow crawled into position. In front of him was an AWM sniper rifle.
Seeing Ba Qi glance through his scope, Song Haoran tilted his head, pulled away from the sight, and waved slightly. “Hi.”
This reckless guy… But good job!!
Ba Qi suddenly wanted to run over and kiss the hell out of this crazy young master of the Song family!
The bullet couldn’t destroy the remnant soul, but piercing 'Zhan’er's head opened a gap—just enough to disrupt his focus. Ren Zhen and Ba Qi seized the moment.
Ren Zhen pulled his hand back and struck 'Zhan’er's back with a heavy palm—right on the golden Edict etched there!
Ba Qi’s eight snake heads bit down with renewed ferocity.
The remnant soul screamed in fury and madness, “If that’s how it is—then all of you stay here forever!!”
'Zhan’er' twisted his palm, forming a glowing orb that he threw into the altar.
The altar trembled violently, bursting with an even more blinding light than before.
The bronze-masked man panicked, sensing that the altar’s gathered soul energy had gone berserk—'Zhan’er' was trying to detonate it!
Realizing the danger, the bronze-masked man could only try to reverse the flow.
The soul energy poured into the crystal pillars. The withered bodies of the Daoists and Demons inside began to show faint signs of life again.
All of this happened in a flash.
“Too late—hahaha… All of you, die!!!” 'Zhan’er' screamed. “This emperor’s divine essence is eternal, but you shall all turn to dust!!”
“Hope!!” the bronze-masked man suddenly shouted.
A massive dragon's roar echoed through the tomb—at the same time, a pillar of light shot up from beneath the altar.
Moments later, a colossal light dragon burst from the pillar and smashed directly into the altar!
The altar shook violently under the dragon’s impact, as though it had reached its limit—it cracked open in an instant!
Cracks spread rapidly across the altar, and terrifying beams of light shot out from within!
BOOM—!!!
With a thunderous explosion, the altar shattered completely!
A massive wave of force erupted, instantly throwing Ba Qi, Ren Zhen, the remnant soul, and the bronze-masked man apart!
Countless spiritual lights surged out from the broken altar, and then the orbs representing the souls of hundreds of Daoist and Demon disciples burst forth wildly!
“My origin power!”
In that moment, Ren Zhen caught sight of one light orb—it was unmistakably the essence of the Yin Wolf Star power that had been devoured!
Overjoyed, he reached out to grab it. But just then, a strange chain shot out from Zi Xing’s chest, wrapped around the orb, and yanked it back into her body!
Missing his chance, Ren Zhen roared in frustration. But before he could react further, the explosive force engulfed his consciousness, slamming his body into the tomb wall.
After absorbing the origin power, Zi Xing collapsed again, utterly drained.
The energy storm swept across the tomb, knocking everyone down in its path.
At the same time, 'Zhan’er's’ body fell from midair, and a shadowy figure was torn out from within him, escaping as a streak of light!
“Stay!!”
Though heavily injured, Ba Qi forced his mouth open. A long purple serpent head shot out like a dragon, clamping down hard on the fleeing figure—tearing off nearly a quarter of it!
That was all Ba Qi could manage before the explosive force hurled him into the corner of the tomb.
The fleeing figure—the remnant soul—had lost nearly a quarter of its divine essence. With no vessel to anchor itself, the altar’s devastating power would soon destroy it entirely.
Unwilling to perish, it split off a portion of itself and flung it toward the altar—this sliver of divine essence, carrying part of its will, entered the body of the young man beneath the altar.
That young man… was Mo Mo.
Now heavily weakened and fragmented, the remnant soul was on the verge of collapse. Without hesitation, it turned to flee toward the exit.
But at that moment, the Sun God’s Emblem on Song Haoran’s chest suddenly flashed. A massive arm extended from the emblem, seizing the remnant soul and dragging it inside!
What?!
The remnant soul's consciousness flickered in horror before being pulled entirely into the emblem.
Meanwhile, a small figure caught the flying bronze-masked man and flashed away with him to the crystal coffin.
Then, the figure vanished from the tomb along with both the man and the coffin.
Finally, the altar completely exploded!
RUMBLE—!!!
…
…
When Song Haoran pushed a slab of rock off himself and staggered to his feet, he saw that the entire tomb had been destroyed.
The crystalline pillars had all collapsed. he individuals previously absorbed by the crystals were found scattered, their condition indeterminate.
Most were buried under rubble… Song Haoran glanced down at the emblem on his chest, smiled, and said, “Good stuff—you saved my life again…”
He then whistled, picked up a pistol off the ground, and fired two shots into the air.
Bang! Bang!
The sharp echoes rang out in the tomb. Then Song Haoran shouted, “If you’re not dead yet, get your ass up! No more lying around!”
Gradually, several members of the Song Family began to stir and rise.
One warrior, head bleeding and crushed by debris, crawled out and said hoarsely, “Young Master… I'm still alive!”
Song Haoran nodded, then glanced at a few more injured survivors crawling out, looking just as wrecked. “Check how many of us are left!”
“Understood!”
Song Haoran looked around again and muttered, “Damn… Winner winner, chicken dinner. Barely made it—what a freaking rush.”
With that, he picked a direction and started walking—toward the place where the altar used to be.
