Chapter 588 568: Never Seen Anyone as Scheming as You

Cultural artifacts are items that have survived the passage of time, perhaps recording the conditions of their era, possessing social value, or merely serving as objects of appreciation.

As the economy becomes more developed, the cultural artifact industry follows suit. Jiangnan City's economy is quite strong, so when Ren Feng and the two others strolled down this ancient street, it was exceptionally bustling, with people coming and going everywhere.

Ren Feng looked around, noticing the street was lined with vendors who had set up stalls filled with strange and intriguing items—ceramics and various small objects of all sorts.

Moreover, on both sides were stores, the sort that sold cultural artifacts, including antiques and calligraphy paintings, and many people were coming in and out, giving Ren Feng the sense of a crowded throng.

Mr. Yang cheerfully said to Ren Feng beside him, "This street is Jiangnan City's cultural artifact street. You can basically find anything here, but there's a downside too—lots of fake goods. If you're not in the know, it's easy to get scammed."

Ren Feng nodded, understanding that every industry has its own unique characteristics.

"If you're looking to pick up something here, eyes wide open. The rule of thumb with cultural artifacts is that once you make a purchase, there's no going back. Even if you end up buying a fake, it's on you."

Ren Feng nodded again.

"Mr. Jiang, how about you two take a stroll? The antiques fair hasn't started yet, and I'd like to browse a bit myself. How about we meet at the Golden Character Store at the end of the street in a bit?" Mr. Yang suggested with a chuckle.

"Sure," Jiang Moshu agreed.

"Alright then, you two young folks make the most of the opportunity," Mr. Yang laughed, "I'll come find you later."

Ren Feng inwardly laughed bitterly, thinking Mr. Yang sure was something, setting up an opportunity for them like this.

The two walked together without any particular goals or conversation, leaving the atmosphere rather quiet.

Noticing a shop that sold jade pendants and similar accessories, Ren Feng chuckled, "Moshu, how about we browse that shop?"

"Okay."

Jiang Moshu followed alongside Ren Feng and walked directly in.

As soon as they entered the shop, the owner approached them with a smile, "What are you looking for, dear patrons?"

Besides them, there were several other customers in the shop, and among them, two individuals stood out with their handsome demeanor.

"Mr. Liang, look."

One man, upon seeing Jiang Moshu, brightened up immediately. The Mr. Liang beside him also lifted his head, eyes lighting up, and he headed straight over to Ren Feng and Jiang Moshu.

"Moshu, do you like this one?" Ren Feng pointed at a jade pendant.

"It's not bad."

Jiang Moshu gently said as Mr. Liang approached.

"This jade pendant is only of inferior quality jade. If you like, miss, I can offer you something else," Mr. Liang said with a smile.

Jiang Moshu looked at the refined and smiling Mr. Liang with a flash of distaste in her eyes.

Ren Feng raised an eyebrow, thinking, "Trying to poach from me again?"

With a modest smile on his face, Ren Feng chuckled and asked, "What can you offer?"

"That would depend on what the young lady prefers," Mr. Liang responded arrogantly.

Jiang Moshu furrowed her brows, while Ren Feng maintained a beaming smile.

The shop owner seized the opportunity to approach, eyes gleaming, and accompanied with a smile, saying, "Our shop recently got a turquoise piece, a real rarity! It would match the young lady perfectly. Mr. Liang, what do you think..."

"Bring it out."

"Certainly, just a moment."

Soon after, the shop owner returned, carrying a small box, smiling widely as he opened it to reveal an oval turquoise inside.

"Here, a full two hundred grams, naturally," the owner introduced, "Mr. Liang, since you're a regular, if you want it, I'll sell it to you for a bit cheaper, twenty thousand, and I can have it crafted any way you like."

Mr. Liang looked at Jiang Moshu, smiling slightly, "Alright, it's a gift for the young lady."

"Should I wrap it up for you?" the owner tentatively asked.

"Wrap it up," Mr. Liang instructed.

The owner was delighted, while Mr. Liang seemed to regard Ren Feng with a challenging gaze—his look of disdain unmistakably saying: "Shouldn't you step aside, weakling?"

Yet Ren Feng appeared oblivious, smiling at Jiang Moshu, "Moshu, congratulations on receiving a fine piece of jade."

Jiang Moshu furrowed her brow slightly but noticed Ren Feng winking at her.

"Moshu, I see this Mr. Liang isn't having it easy, you might as well accept it."

Smart move.

Mr. Liang sneered internally as the owner handed the item to Jiang Moshu, and Mr. Liang's face was full of contentment upon its acceptance.

However, just then, Ren Feng spoke up again.

"Moshu, didn't you say you wanted to give me a gift? I think this turquoise piece isn't too bad; coincidentally, I'm thinking of making a ring."

Jiang Moshu nodded and, under Mr. Liang's gaze, handed the box directly to Ren Feng.

"You!"

Mr. Liang was utterly furious.

Ren Feng, wearing a slight smile, said, "Mr. Liang, please don't be upset. You've given the item to Moshu; once it's hers, how she handles it is her business. Now that she's given it to me, it's mine."

Mr. Liang's face was as dark as a storm, looking like he was about to drip water.

"No need to look so gloomy. At most, I'll just say thank you. After all, it's something worth twenty grand." Ren Feng broke into a grin, flashing his teeth.

"You just wait!"

Mr. Liang fumed angrily, storming off, but before he even reached the door, he heard Ren Feng's voice again.

"Owner, do you buy turquoise here? I just got this one—how about I sell it to you? No problem, just half the price, ten grand, it's definitely natural!"

Mr. Liang lost his footing, stumbling directly to the ground.

Watching the beaming Ren Feng, Jiang Moshu's eyes were filled with bewilderment.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"

"It's the first time I've seen you con someone like that."

"Really? Actually, I've always been like this."

Ren Feng handed the box to the owner, "Owner, pay up, ten thousand."

The owner was dumbfounded, thinking it was the first time he had seen anyone conduct business like this—essentially a 'get something for nothing' scheme.

Nonetheless, he didn't lose out, gaining a free ten grand after all.

After this little event concluded, Ren Feng made another purchase, choosing a jade piece with a beautiful pattern, although not of significant value.

"I've always believed a gift's value is in emotion and intention. Moshu, this is for you."

Ren Feng handed the jade to Jiang Moshu.

Seeing his smile, Jiang Moshu pocketed the jade and nodded.

"Alright, let's head out. Mr. Yang is probably going to look for us later, and we should check out the cultural artifact fair as well."

Ren Feng exited the shop, with Jiang Moshu following behind, watching his back, lost in thought.
