Chapter 1007 - 984: Experts at the Foot of the Snowy Mountain
"Thank you."
Ren Feng expressed his gratitude. This woman was likely a local, but she had learned Huaxia Language and even opened an inn here, earning money from tourists coming to travel.
However, as things stood, it was nearly winter now. The season had passed, the weather was cold, and snow was flying. The risks of entering the snowy mountains were extremely high, and it was very easy to trigger an avalanche.
For this landlady, this was the offseason for making money.
Ren Feng sat down and surveyed his surroundings.
Sitting next to him was a young man, his expression extremely calm and composed, drinking by himself. But when Ren Feng looked over, the young man immediately sensed it and returned his gaze with the sharpness of an eagle.
He was a skilled person.
Ren Feng gave him a slight smile, but the young man merely snorted softly and ignored Ren Feng.
Somewhat aloof.
Ren Feng quickly made this judgment and wasn't concerned, so he looked at the others again.
Apart from this young man, the most noticeable people in the inn were that group of burly men. They were dressed thickly and appeared stocky, whispering amongst themselves.
Not good people. These men also seemed cautious, looking around even while talking, and carried guns under their thick cotton coats.
Ren Feng glanced over them, not bothered, and regarding the rest, they were ordinary people. He then started to drink his own wine.
"The recent heavy snow makes it hard to enter the snow mountain."
One of the burly men said in a low voice.
"What's there to fear? Fortune favors the bold. At this time, there's basically no one on the snow mountain, and the snow foxes only come out around now. Just killing a few would be enough for our year's income."
They spoke softly, but not in Huaxia Language.
One of them went to grab some meat from the plate but found there was none left, immediately standing up and speaking to the landlady in broken Huaxia Language: "Landlady, any more meat?"
"No more," the middle-aged woman said from behind the counter, "We won't be going to Kula City to restock food until next Monday, and with the bad weather, the food has been depleting fast."
"No more?" The burly man's face was full of disbelief, "Impossible."
"There really isn't anymore." The middle-aged woman was full of helplessness.
"I'll go check the kitchen myself."
With that, the burly man went straight into the kitchen.
"Hey, hey, what are you doing?"
The woman couldn't stop him, but in just a moment, the burly man emerged from the room, anger on his face.
"Seriously, what a lousy place, ran out of meat?"
"Landlady, when we came, we saw you had a herd of yak. Here's an idea, slaughter one of them; we'll pay the money."
"No, can't do." The middle-aged woman directly shook her head, "Those aren't for eating."
"Yaks not for eating, then what are you raising them for?" The burly man was a bit angry, pulling out a stack of large red banknotes from his pocket and slapping them on the table.
"This money is enough to kill a yak of yours, and when we come back from the snow mountain, we want the rest of the yak meat too."
In the small inn, everyone's eyes were on that burly man.
"No way, I said those yaks are not for slaughter."
"If you won't kill it, I will!"
The burly man was somewhat enraged, stomping out angrily.
"Hey! Stop!"
The middle-aged woman tried to pull him back, but he shrugged her off easily!
Ren Feng's eyes turned slightly cold; just as he was about to act, suddenly, there was a loud slap on the table nearby, accompanied by a snort.
Almost instantly, the burly man about to leave was yanked back as if being pulled by an invisible force.
"Who?"
The burly man turned around, shouting toward the back.
The young man from before stood up, his gaze cold: "Me!"
"You're courting death!"
The burly man roared, charging at the young man without a second thought.
The young man tapped his foot, flipping in mid-air, dodging his punch, and landed behind him, grabbing his hair with a hard tug.
"Ah!"
The burly man cried out in pain as the young man slammed his elbow into his back, forcing him to kneel in pain.
Clatter!
All the burly men at the three tables stood up, glaring hostilely at the young man.
The small inn was instantly filled with tension, like a drawn sword.
The young man swept his gaze over the burly men, snorting as if they weren't worthy opponents in his eyes.
"Enough!"
Suddenly, another seated burly man shouted, "We didn't come here to fight, sit down all of you!"
That burly man seemed to be the leader; with his command, the others sat back down.
The young man looked at the leader, who said, "When traveling abroad, it's inevitable to have conflicts. Please forgive us."
Raising a glass to the young man, he gulped it down.
The young man didn't linger on it, slowly returning to his seat.
The previous burly man wanted to grab the money he had placed on the counter, but the young man calmly said, "That money will be her compensation, leave it."
The burly man's body stiffened, seemingly annoyed, but he dared not touch it.
"Forget it, leave the money," the leader said.
The burly man returned frustrated, not eating anything more, and went straight to rest.
The landlady got up from the ground, watching as the young man also went upstairs. She wanted to say something, but the young man said without looking back, "Landlady, keep the money, it's fine."
Watching the scene, Ren Feng chuckled, "Landlady, get me a room."
...
The night quickly passed, and when Ren Feng opened his eyes, it was still a snowy white outside.
Getting out of bed, Ren Feng took out his phone and directly dialed the old man's number.
The old man's phone number had never changed, but basically, only Ren Feng would call him.
After a series of rings, the call was connected.
"Who dares call me at this ungodly hour, interrupting my sleep? Want me to cripple you?!"
The old man on the other end was so angry his beard was bristling. Ren Feng's mouth twitched, "Old man, it's me."
"It's you, little rascal. Who else would dare call me at this hour besides you, huh? Hurry up and speak, or spit it out!"
Ren Feng rubbed his forehead, speechless, "I'm at the foot of the snow mountain now, but I'm not sure which one."
"Zhumula Snow Mountain, find your way up. If you don't know the route, ask a local to guide you. I'm going back to sleep."
"Hey, hey, wait a minute, aren't you being irresponsible?"
"Brat, what responsibility should I have? Should I come down and bring you up myself? Is your skill for eating? Is your brain made of wood?"
Han Buyan was ranting on the other side, leaving Ren Feng utterly speechless, "Alright, alright, I'll figure it out myself; go back to sleep."
