Chapter 239: The Truth Of The Matter

Chapter 239: The Truth Of The Matter

>>Val

"The poison." Vaerion said, "It’s there because the dragon’s body wasn’t buried."

"Is there a way to get rid of it?" I asked

"There is a burial rite that has to be performed for ancient dragons and then they have to be buried in the land of dragons." Vaerion sighed

"Ancient dragons have to be buried with a special ritual," Theo said, "If not, their dead bodies start turning everything around them into poison."

"The dragon was old, might be why the poison got limited to the forest." Vaerion said, "But I’m not sure how we’re supposed to handle one that has spread so much poison..."

"But what just happened?" RoseMary said as she looked at my arms, "Why did her touch cause such an extreme reaction?" I was holding Pen in my embrace

"I don’t know," I shook my head.

"Do you think that dragon has anything to do with the bringer of chaos?" Gimli asked

"That’s possible." Theo answered, "But-" They all looked back at me, back at Pen, "Why was she-" He paused, then chose not to speak any further.

He must have stopped because of me. I had my eyes on Pen with a very depressed expression, after all.

"Well, we should get some sleep for now." Vaerion said, "Pen will wake up in the morning too, I’m sure we can get some answered from her then."

Everyone nodded and then started preparing to go to sleep.

I put Pen in the tent where she and RoseMary were staying.

"Don’t worry, Valenor," Rosemary sat by Pen’s body, "I’ll make sure to heal her if anything happens." She passed me a smile, "I’m sure we can figure this out."

I nodded at her, forcing a smile out while my thoughts were killing me. I couldn’t bring myself to say anything and walked out. Letting the tent curtains fall into place as I walked away.

I’m sure that was nothing.

It’s quite possible that anyone could have triggered the poison if they touched the carcass. It’s not like she knew that would happen.

If she did, she wouldn’t have done that. Pen isn’t a bad person.

-Then why didn’t she listen to me? Why does she keep falling into a trance? It wasn’t like that before. And the moment she touched the dead body, it disintegrated. Dissolving into the air and spreading out in the form of poison.

A normal person can’t do that-

No!

I shook my head. It can’t be!

Pen is my childhood friend! I know her! I know she’s innocent!!

I walked to my tent that I shared with Vaerion. He was sitting, scribbling something in his book. He raised his head to look at me when he saw me, "You doing okay?" He asked

I nodded and then laid down on the mat quietly, turning my body away from Vaerion.

"It’ll be fine," He said. I’m sure everyone can see how disturbed I am but I can’t admit it right away. I laid still on the mat.

I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Everything will be fine

I closed my eyes, refusing to open them and I’m not sure how much time passed when a loud shriek made me shoot my eyes open. The screaming was horrendous and it made both me and Vaerion dart out of the tent in an instant.

Pen!!

The sound was coming from her tent.

"I have to eat!" She said, "I have a baby that’ll be born any day!" It was that same dream, but this time, I was seeing it from a third person’s perspective.

I looked down at myself. It was me, my body was translucent but I was standing there, watching as my mother stuffed her mouth with the dragon’s heart.

"Curse you woman, you’d kill another to keep yourself alive?"

"You’re as good as dead!" Mom screamed but didn’t stop. She looked like a monster with all that blood she got around her mouth and her hands, "I need to eat, I want me and my child to live."

"I’ll live too if you leave my heart alone!" He tried to roar but he had no energy.

"Your kind is dead," Mother glared at the dragon, "There’s no need for you to live. It would be a lonely life anyway." She delivered the cold words without any emotions, then drove the dagger she had on her further into his heart to cut it open and eat it.

"I curse you woman," The dragon’s eyes glinted, "I curse your child!" He hissed, "When things set in motion. You won’t be able to do anything about it but you’ll watch in helplessness! You’ll live through double the pain!" Mom paused to look back at the dragon who was pretty much dead now. He had lost too much blood and his heart had been pierced too many times, "A day will come when your child walks to me with her own two feet and that’ll be the day of ruin. Nothing will be able to save her. And not a single person from this current world will be able to end it." "That child inside your belly will walk to me on her own two feet, and once she enters these woods, I will claim her. Her body, her mind, her entire being. Turn her into something, her own will want to kill."

Mother spat out a piece she was eating, "She’ll never come to you."

"I curse you. You’ll pay for it." The dragon smirked.

"She’ll never come here!!" Mom screamed.

"Oh?" The dragon’s evil grin got wider, then he turned to look at me, "But she’s already here,"

!!!!
