Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One

Chapter 128: Setting Rules

Chapter 128: Setting Rules

Even if it was just for a few minutes.

Lizzie didn’t hesitate, she shifted so smoothly and naturally I was shocked.

When I shifted the first time, it was so painful that I nearly passed out from the pain. It felt as if every bone in my body was being broken, but today, everything was so smooth.

Shifting made me feel as if I had become whole.

I stood there in wolf form, my senses heightened.

The forest came alive in a completely different way from before.

Every sound, every scent, and every movement was amplified many times over.

Without hesitation, I took out in a run.

I ran fast, free and unrestrained through the trees in the forest.

I ran across the land that was mine without cages or boundaries.

Everything felt like....freedom.

When I returned to the house, I shifted back and wrapped myself in a robe.

My breathing was steady, my mind clear, and my heart felt lighter.

This was the first time in years that I felt like I belonged somewhere, and not because someone gave me a place, but because I created one myself.

Back in my room, I took a long shower and got into bed.

However, I couldn’t sleep due to excitement.

Lizzie was much more relaxed than ever after that run.

However, just as I was overthinking everything, she spoke to me.

"Don’t shift again for now. Soon, we will be able to appear in the world without fear, but for now, it’s better to stay hidden like before."

"But there is no one here? Why can’t you have this little freedom?" I couldn’t understand why even when we were so far away from the Night Claw Pack, we still had to hide my wolf.

"Because not seeing me doesn’t mean some people can’t sense me. If the wrong people do, then we will be in trouble." Lizzie replied solemnly.

This surprised me because I never really understood why she had me hide her existence for so many years.

However, I still complied because I knew that no matter who betrayed me, Lizzie would never.

"Alright then, no more shifting. I get it." I had no choice but to agree to her demands.

"Also, let’s set a few rules for you so that you can stay happy and safe." Lizzie said again.

"Rules? What rules?" I asked, feeling curious about what she would come up with.

"First rule...never depend on anyone. Putting yourself at others mercy only gives them the opportunity to betray you. So, you are your strongest support." She began and I nodded my head.

Thinking about Karl and that bet he made with Mike.

I took him as a friend I could depend on, but he treated me like a prize for a bet.

I never wanted to be in such a situation again. So, depending on myself was indeed better.

"Okay, I agree with that one. I will work hard to build my own strongest support." I agreed to this rule immediately.

"Alright, rule number two.... always have a backup plan." Lizzie continued.

I had to think about what she meant by this rule.

"Have a backup plan. What does that mean? Isn’t me moving out of the pack and buying this place already a backup plan?" I asked in confusion.

"No, silly. This is your first plan. You always planned to leave after finding out that Mike was your mate. But you need a backup plan in case something goes wrong." Lizzie explained to me.

"So, you mean I need another place?" I couldn’t help the confusion.

"Not necessarily, but having another place is a bonus. What I mean by having a backup plan is to diversify yourself and your abilities. You are now a good computer expert. You are also becoming a top hacker fast. Your company won’t take long to get off the ground. But what if something goes wrong with everything?" Lizzie explained and I had to think for a while before I got what she meant.

However, this also made me think of heightening my security in every way.

I had to learn more from Shadow and improve my skills soon. This way, I could upgrade my digital and even physical security.

I wasn’t going to give anyone an opportunity to take away what I have worked so hard to build.

"I think I don’t need a Plan B. What I need is to improve myself and my current plan." This time I argued because I didn’t quite agree with Lizzie’s way of thinking.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Lizzie asked curiously.

"What I mean is, having a backup plan is good, but it also shows that I haven’t done enough for my plan, which is why I have doubts about it and need a plan B. This is basically saying that I was already setting myself up for failure. So, I will not make a backup plan, but perfect the current one." I said what was in my mind and I could feel Lizzie nodding her head in agreement.

"You have a point, but nothing is completely foolproof in this world, so, it’s still better to have something to fall back on." Lizzie still insisted and to put her mind at ease, I agreed to do something about a second plan.

"Alright, how about I invest some money in other thriving companies using a different identity? This way, even if some people use what I have now to sabotage me, I will still have something left. I could also buy another place in a different city or country once my finances are more stable?" This was the best I could do and not feel like I was setting myself up for failure.

It was a form of expansion instead of an alternative.

"That works too. As long as you have options." Lizzie didn’t fuss about it anymore.

"What about the third rule?" I asked eagerly.

I wanted to know what more rules she would set up for me.
