Chapter 769 - 769 769 There's Someone Behind
769: Chapter 769: There’s Someone Behind 769: Chapter 769: There’s Someone Behind Guided by the seven headless figures, Gu Fan followed them past a cluster of tombstones, feeling the chill of the wind and hearing what seemed like mournful wailing in his ears.
His heart pounded in fear and he only wanted to get out as quickly as possible.
Further along the path, Gu Fan came to a large tree and was stunned.
The tree branches were adorned with dead bodies, all dressed in clothing identical to the ones in the ancient town, their eyes wide open in death.
“What on earth is happening?” Gu Fan’s growing fear made his breaths quicken, clearly a result of terror.
Picking up a flashlight, Gu Fan shone light on the hanged bodies and was startled to recognize some of the faces.
They were the bride and groom from the bonfire party.
This perplexed Gu Fan even more.
Why were the people from the ancient town here?
Weren’t they supposed to be wreaking havoc upon others?
Was this supposed to be some display of sympathy?
Gu Fan paced around the big tree, unable to comprehend the situation, and he asked Yang Xinran who was beside him, “Do you know what’s going on?”
Before Yang Xinran could answer, Gu Fan had already given up, “Never mind, you can’t even communicate with me now.”
Despite having no head, Yang Xinran still had her temper.
She almost stepped on Gu Fan with her high heel.
“If you know there’s danger, you have to tell me.” As soon as Gu Fan finished speaking, Yang Xinran quickly grabbed him and started pulling him away, signalling they needed to leave urgently.
Gu Fan jumped, blurting out, “You’ve got to be kidding me, there’s really danger here and you only react now?”
Just then, several hands burst out of the ground from the surrounding graves, accompanied by a chilling scream.
Whatever was buried underneath seemed to be stirring.
“Oh my God!
Let’s go!” Gu Fan yelled before sprinting off faster than anyone else.
The seven headless figures had no choice but to follow.
However, the graveyard was much larger than Gu Fan anticipated.
After running a distance, he found he was still trapped inside, surrounded by increasing number of hands extending from the ground and waving frantically.
Gu Fan didn’t notice the hand that emerged from the mud and grabbed his ankle, tripping him.
“Leave me alone!” Gu Fan attempted to pull his leg free, but the hand’s grip was strong and he couldn’t shake it off.
As Gu Fan was trying to get up, more hands reached out from the mud, grabbing his arms and shoulders, pulling him back on the ground.
The situation had turned dire.
Gu Fan lay on the ground, held by countless hands.
He twisted and struggled but couldn’t move.
Two more hands extended from the mud, clutching his neck and squeezing.
The sensation of fingers digging into his flesh made Gu Fan extremely uncomfortable.
The number of hands emerging from the mud increased, seemingly unwilling to spare Gu Fan, clutching his body and pulling with an intent to drag him into the muddy earth.
“Oh God, help!” Gu Fan shook the bell in his hand, but before it could ring, a hand shot out from the mud and grabbed the bell, trying to seize it form him.
With his own safety at stake and a choking sensation taking over, the bell was slowly slipping away from Gu Fan’s grasp.
The urgency of the situation was escalating.
Just then, the seven headless figures arrived.
They began to fight with kicks and punches, twisting and prying the hands away to aid Gu Fan in his predicament.
Yang Xinran demonstrated the power of her high heels by stepping forcefully on the hand that tried to take the bell, allowing Gu Fan to regain grip on the bell.
That was a close call.
Upon sensing danger, the hands retreated back into the earth.
Gu Fan slowly climbed back onto his feet, his heart still racing.
He would’ve been dragged by those monstrous hands into the muddy earth if it weren’t for the seven headless figures.
After a series of coughs and deep breaths, Gu Fan finally felt a little better.
With a sudden calm descending, all the hands that had emerged from the earth withdrew.
It seemed as if they had conceded, realising they couldn’t overpower Gu Fan.
“Thanks!” Gu Fan expressed his gratitude to the seven headless figures.
They congregated around him, looking protective.
It appeared they were pinning their hopes of reclaiming their heads and escaping this place on Gu Fan.
Having been saved by the seven headless figures, Gu Fan was determined to help them.
He asked them to continue leading the way.
After a while, they finally made it out of the graveyard, and Gu Fan said, “So sorry for disturbing you earlier.
It wasn’t my intention.
If you hadn’t gone overboard, we wouldn’t have come to this point.
Let’s just leave each other in peace.
I don’t want to cause any more trouble.”
Hearing this, Yang Xinran turned around.
Without a head, Gu Fan couldn’t read her facial expression, but assumed that she was either rolling her eyes or scornful.
Odd bird calls resonated as a flock of crows perched on the tree branches, keeping their eyes on Gu Fan.
Gu Fan glanced back at the crows, made a face at them, shook the bell and then raised his middle finger at them, encouraging the seven headless figures to do the same.
If Yang Xinran could speak, she’d definitely be puzzled.
Gu Fan had just proposed a ceasefire and now he was provoking the enemy.
What was he trying to do?
In reality, Gu Fan knew that pleading for mercy or calling for a truce wouldn’t compel the opposing side to back down.
If the roles were reversed, he wouldn’t let his opponent off the hook so easily either.
He had no idea what tricks the other side had up their sleeve.
In this unfamiliar primeval forest, anything bizarre could spring up.
He believed that the deeper he ventured, the scarier it would get.
At this point, Gu Fan wondered what Qian Ye was up to.
Was he hiding somewhere nearby, watching this unfold?
Didn’t he promise to help?
To be Gu Fan’s back up?
Why was he not dependable at the most crucial times?
Would he only appear when danger was truly imminent?
For some reason, Gu Fan was worried about Qian Ye.
His actions were suspicious, as if he had some hidden agenda.
Could there be some unspeakable secret in this mysterious ancient town that Qian Ye was interested in?
As he walked, Gu Fan had a thought and said, “If you seven notice any danger or anything unusual and can’t tell me, pat me on the shoulder.”
A hand patted Gu Fan’s head from behind causing him to frown, “I said pat my shoulder, not my head.
Didn’t you hear me?”
“Wait a minute!” Gu Fan saw the seven headless figures walking ahead of him.
Fear kicked in.
Who was it, then, that touched him from behind?
