Chapter 723 - 723 723 The Sword God of a Generation

723: Chapter 723 The Sword God of a Generation 723: Chapter 723 The Sword God of a Generation A long, long time ago, there was a day where the wind and sand were fierce in the outer regions.

The wind howled while the sand danced wildly through the air.

Despite the harsh weather, a heart filled with unyielding spirit refused to be stopped.

He braved the flying sand, pressing on despite adversity.

The wind was strong, but his pace never faltered.

A determination that refused to succumb was apparent in his eyes.

Stunning Jian Qi radiated from him, fueled by his unsatisfied heart.

Sand snakes slithered across his path, only to be frightened into retreat.

He overcame numerous hardships and dangers to finally reach his destination, the capital of Qianye Country.

He stared at the tightly shut gates, his eyes filling with outrage as if he had thought of something.

With a single draw of his sword, the gates were cloven in two.

His power was absolute; his might, shocking.

Soldiers were stirred awake, rushing in large numbers to block his entrance into the palace.

Yet before the man with a single sword, every spear and shield was cleaved as though they were mere tofu.

And all those dauntless enough to stand in his path were slain mercilessly, their bodies scattering the fields.

The street from the city gate to the palace was strewn with bodies.

Soldiers continued arriving only to fall in waves, their bravery unable to fill the gap in strength.

Cries of soldiers echoed outside the palace, their defense crumbling; their morale shattering.

The palace doors could no longer be held, shattered by the man’s furious slash, followed by a deafening shout: “Qianye, come out!”

Inside the palace, a dignified woman with piercing eyes shed her dragon robe.

Assisted by her maids, she donned garb befitting a swordswoman.

With a simple wave of her hand, Qianye dismisses her maids who immediately step aside in fear.

Qianye conducted a mantra, emitting an unusual Qi.

Her entire presence became more formidable; with a gesture, a sword was drawn to her side.

Qianye caressed her sword, a bitter smile gracing her lips: “Very well, let’s settle this today.” With that, Qianye turned around, stepping forward solemnly with her sword, her maids closely following.

At this time the soldiers were still resisting on the steps leading to the palace, fighting desperately.

However, before the man’s sword, it seemed all effort was futile.

“Stand aside!” A light scream resulted in soldiers parting way as if pardoned.

The man halted, staring at the beautiful silhouette standing high on the steps.

His eyes held a mix of questioning and tenderness—as if there were many questions he wanted to ask, but he didn’t know where to start.

Qianye spoke coolly: “You shouldn’t have come.”

The man replied calmly: “But you know I would inevitably come.

Tell me, what have I done wrong to deserve this?”

“You’ve done nothing wrong.

We are simply not meant to be together.” Qianye’s gaze was distant, as if she wished not to see him at all.

“You leave whenever you wish, and decide that we’re not right for each other whenever you wish.

Everyone says Shennv Xuanhui is nothing but witches, but I don’t care because I love you.

I even gave up my position as master to be with you, and now all I have is your simple rejection.” Pointing his sword at Qianye, he asked angrily: “Today, I came to ask you one question.

How much of our time together was real?”

Upon hearing this, Qianye retorted smirkingly: “How silly for the great Jian Shen to travel such a distance to ask me such a foolish question.”

“Yes, I’m stupid.

Even though I know I was used by you, even though I know you never truly loved me, I still can’t let go.” Jian Shen then began to walk towards the steps one step at a time, showing a clear defiance of any deterrence.

“Enough, stop this senseless act.” Qianye pointed her sword at him, issuing a final warning.

Ignored, Jian Shen continued moving forward, advancing more quickly.

His eyes were determined, his steps even more so.

It was as if nothing could make him turn back.

“Why do you force my hand?” A pang of pain hit Qianye, she sighed inwardly and prepared to fight back.

Both moved at blinding speeds, their figures blurring past each other in the blink of an eye.

Sparks fly as their swords clash continuously, the explosive Jian Qi impossible to resist, keeping spectators from getting close.

Jian Shen’s every strike is lightning-fast, too quick for the naked eye.

Yet the unimaginable speed of Qianye’s sword is able to keep pace with all of his attacks.

They escalate their battle from the steps to the top, the clash of their weapons echoing through the area.

A single blow sent sparks flying, the Jian Qi razed everything within a ten-step radius to the ground.

The royal guards were dumbfounded, a single thought crossed their mind: If her majesty is this powerful, does she still need our protection?

Qianye, of course, was not proficient in martial arts, but used magic to summon the spirits of past master swordsmen into her weapon.

This allowed her to pass off as a swordsman for a short time, fooling those unaware of her trick.

Jian Shen knew Qianye’s tactics and it only spurred him on.

He unleashed a forceful slash, causing Qianye to retreat in defense.

“Well done, very good indeed!” With a low shout, Jian Shen quickened his pace and pressed the attack once more.

“Assist me.” Qianye murmurs a mantra; her treasured sword immediately shone with a chilling light.

No one knew how long they fought, or how many rounds they had completed.

The battle continued from dawn to dusk with no clear victor.

The specter of the two dueling atop the palace had those watching from below craning their necks.

In the end, with neither able to overcome the other, Jian Shen sheathed his sword, turned around, and left.

The guards stepped forward to stop him but Qianye gave a nod, signaling their agreement to let him leave.

After a few steps, Jian Shen looked back: “Qianye, I am still not satisfied.

Therefore, I will return,” he said before trudging forward, his figure growing distant and desolate.

Watching Jian Shen depart, Qianye felt a pang of sorrow.

She chastised herself for not being able to say a few harsh words to end this once and for all.

Why did she have to leave a shred of hope for him?

“I’m sorry, we can’t be together.

If there’s anyone to blame, it’s fate.

In this life, it’s me who owes you.

If there’s a next life…” Qianye lifted her gaze to the star-studded night sky.

As a shooting star traced across the sky, its final burst of dazzling brilliance made her heart skip a beat.

She quickly calculated, and her face drained of color.

Whose demise did that signify?

At this time, Jian Shen also spotted the shooting star, but he only chuckled before moving on.

Suddenly, Lin Xi woke up from the dream.

Upon realizing she was in her room, she realized that it had been just a dream.

“To think I would dream of this again.” Lin Xi massaged her temple, calmed herself, and let out a bitter smile.
