Chapter 220 - 40: Envoy from the Emerald Forest

"Has the Black Dragon made any moves again?"

In the center of the Elf City, shrouded in an enormous barrier in the northern part of the Dark Forest, stands a palace woven from several towering green trees, where Forest Elves gather.

They sit on elegantly crafted vine chairs that still bear leaves, frowning as they discuss.

"The Black Dragon’s followers have thrown the Dark Forest into chaos. Who knows how many demons have perished at the hands of those creatures... We should have driven out that Black Dragon long ago," a younger male Elf Elder spoke.

"The clash between demons and creatures is the way of nature... However, the power of the Black Dragon’s followers continues to grow. Our Emerald Forest must think of a response now... While the Black Dragon does not disturb us now, it might not be the case in the future," an Elf Elder stated prudently.

"A few days ago, the Crimson Nest emerged, launching war in the Eastern Continent. The Black Dragon’s actions might be related to the Crimson Nest... If that is true, our Emerald Forest cannot stand by and do nothing.

A thousand years ago, the Crimson Calamity that swept across the continent dealt heavy losses to our tribe, even claiming the life of our leader..."

An older Elf Elder sighed.

His words left the older elders silent, their eyes reflecting anger.

A thousand years ago, the Emerald Forest tribe was a large Elf Tribe with Legendary Elf powerhouses.

But during the Crimson Calamity that swept the continent, the Legendary Elf King was defeated and devoured by the Legendary Green Dragon, ’Kleiver,’ under the Mother of Deep Red’s command.

Kleiver not only consumed the Legendary Elf King but also killed and devoured over a thousand Forest Elves.

It’s important to know that it is incredibly difficult for Forest Elves to bear offspring; a pair of Forest Elf parents might only have one or two children in their lifetime. Additionally, Forest Elves only reach adulthood at a hundred and ten years old, making population expansion extremely difficult. Losing over a thousand tribe members at once is considered a severe loss that requires hundreds of years to recover.

And after a millennium of development without worldly concerns, the total number of Forest Elves in the Emerald Forest today, including both those close to death and newborns, barely exceeds five thousand.

However, as long as Forest Elves reach adulthood, they can generally cultivate the tribe’s heritage professions to an advanced level due to their innate talent within their bloodlines. Many Forest Elves even cultivate two professions, one being close combat, and the other being a caster or archer, resulting in strong high-end combat power among Forest Elves.

The Black Wing Nest has always refrained from provoking the Emerald Forest due to the fear of the strength of these Forest Elves. Even now, if not necessary, the Black Wing Nest does not want to wage war against them for the sake of the Emerald Forest’s territory.

"I think we can sign an ally contract with the Black Dragon Lord."

A young male elf pondered for a long time before speaking up suddenly.

His statement left the gathered Elf Elders shocked, some in disbelief.

"Wind, do you know what you’re saying?" an Elf Elder reprimanded.

The elf called ’Wind’ nodded seriously, with a grave expression, "Elders, I’m not joking.

Currently, our Emerald Forest lacks a Legendary powerhouse; at best, we have the Grand Elder, who barely possesses pseudo-Legendary strength. With the emergence of the Mother of Deep Red, the continent is bound to become unstable, and as long as we exist on this land, we cannot avoid getting caught in conflicts!

How many members do we have now? How many Advanced and Master Level Elf Warriors do we have? If we keep creating enemies for ourselves over unclear matters, how many more Elf Warriors must die?"

At this point, some Elf Elders fell into deep thought, while others remained indignant, wanting to refute, but Wind ignored them and continued,

"Being kind to unfamiliar beings is something to do when we have extra strength. If we can’t even protect our own tribespeople’s safety but still talk grandly of eliminating evil, saving beings, saving the continent, isn’t that cruel to our own tribespeople?

The fallen Elf Warriors had families too."

The Elf Elders, initially furious and wanting to refute, found themselves unable to argue against these words. Eventually, they grudgingly uttered,

"Their families would also consider fathers who sacrificed for kindness and justice, for saving beings, as great."

"Is that so. Then they are truly heartless," Wind remarked indifferently, his gaze sweeping over the Elf Elder,

"To speak so lightly, so calmly about losing one’s closest kin, is this prideful?

I would rather they weep and say, let their fathers not join the war, not save beings–for no other reason than for a peaceful family life."

The atmosphere in the palace fell into silence.

Sitting at the head seat, the Great Elf Elder spoke,

"Does anyone have objections to what Wind has said?"

Most of the Elf Elders remained silent. Those who wanted to refute sighed upon seeing the scene, choosing not to speak further.

"It seems everyone agrees by default." The Grand Elder stroked his neatly groomed long green beard, looking at Wind with a glimmer of satisfaction in his eyes,

"Wind, I’ll leave this to you. Go to the Black Wing Nest, meet the Black Dragon King, and establish the alliance."
