Chapter 126 - 7: Three Years (2)
In the following days, Udi began to delve into learning these three Magic spells, mastering them one by one.
....
"Guardian Barrier." Udi silently recited the Spell, a large amount of Magic Power surged from his Dragon Claw, and a round white light spread outward from him as the center.
Once the white light engulfed the entire Dragon Nest, Udi stopped the flow of Magic Power.
The white giant cover then vanished into the air, becoming invisible.
The Guardian Barrier was established.
The Three Rings·Entry Level Guardian Barrier, though its Defense capability was not strong, could only block out Low-Level Creatures and Low-Level Professionals for now, it was enough. Even if it couldn’t stop Middle Level or Advanced Creatures, it could serve as a warning-type Magic.
Next, Udi marked the Dragon-blooded Maid and the Harpies’ Maidens with marks allowing them to freely enter and exit the Barrier.
The subsequent days returned to tranquility.
There were some minor events in between.
For example, the members of the Wolf Adventurer’s Guild were successfully disciplined by Shiji, thoroughly realizing their position and situation, then they were bestowed Dragon Blood.
Among them, the head of the Wolf Adventurer’s Guild, an Advanced Warrior Professional, Thyssen, was personally bound by Udi with the Servant Contract.
As for how to judge the loyalty of other Adventurers?
Shiji’s discipline ultimately couldn’t guarantee their loyalty one hundred percent, and this group of Adventurers wasn’t a family unit, unable to be easily constrained. Hence, this matter was finally left for the head, Thyssen, to handle.
Bound by the ’dog leash’ of the Servant Contract, Thyssen had to devote all his efforts to supporting the interests of the Dragon Nest in order to survive. —— If he was really noble and unafraid of death, he wouldn’t have surrendered to the Evil Dragon; having surrendered now, becoming the Dragon Nest’s dog, he would naturally bark to repel enemies for the Dragon Nest.
Once the head, Thyssen, led the Adventurers out of the Mountain Stream Dragon Nest, the first thing they did was bring their families from scattered locations and settle them within the Mountain Stream Dragon Nest.
The entire process took about a month. The parents, lovers, children, and even close relations of over twenty Adventurers, all who could be found, were brought back.
Though the Adventurers opposed this initially, they eventually compromised.
Because their head, Thyssen, was the first to lead by bringing back his lover and children to the Dragon Nest, combined with Thyssen’s indoctrination that staying in the Dragon Nest would allow them to gain the Power of the Dragon Vein, their wives’ lifespans could be extended, and their children’s future would be bright.
However, not all Adventurers had families and parents; there were a few orphan Adventurers in the group. Unfortunately, during subsequent organized hunts for Demons, they all unexpectedly met untimely deaths.
The head, Thyssen, expressed deep regret over this and spent several days in a slump at the Half-Elf Charm Shop before pulling himself together again.
Besides the Wolf Adventurer’s Guild affair, another incident occurred.
About the Forest Elves.
Previously, per Udi’s request, Shiji led a group of Dragon-blooded Maids to the Elf Territory for communication and attempted cooperation.
And the result..... was a failure. The Forest Elves indignantly rejected the cooperation and declared they absolutely could not cooperate with the evil Black Dragon Followers.
No matter how diligently Shiji negotiated and explained that they were different from ordinary Black Dragon Followers and could coexist harmoniously, these Forest Elves were stubborn, refusing to agree to cooperate despite all persuasion from Shiji and his Dragon-blooded Maids.
If not for the Dragon-blooded Maidens being genuinely attractive, the Elves might have driven away Shiji and his cohort with force.
Upon learning of this outcome, Udi felt a bit regretful but not very disappointed.
He initially asked Shiji and the others to attempt collaboration; if it worked, great, if not, so be it.
"There are countless races inherently stronger than Humans, so why can Humans become one of the Star Realm’s dominions?"
The answer is complex, but at this moment, the choice of the Forest Elves should be one of the reasons.
Powerful races somewhat possess unalterable racial traits, such as the Forest Elves’ kindness, Five-Colored Dragons’ malevolence, Half-Elves’ stubbornness, and such traits ’frame’ them.
This proposed cooperation by the Dragon Nest was mutually beneficial for both parties, sadly due to innate alignment prejudice and racial traits, the Forest Elves didn’t consider whether this decision would lead to loss or gain. For them, what’s not possible is simply not possible; unless it involves the race’s survival, such traits are unlikely to change.
Humans, however, are different. Humans can possess nearly all the racial traits of all races: kindness, stubbornness, greed, malice, neutrality, cunning, madness, indifference, and with each trait having a substantial proportion, or adaptively modify their approach accordingly.
.....
Time quietly flowed; for long-lived beings, time is very cheap.
In the blink of an eye, three years passed.
In these three years, significant shifts occurred among forces in the surrounding areas.
The southern region of the Dark Forest became chaotic for several years due to the Kingdom and the Duchy issuing Centaur hunting missions, resulting in mutual devastation.
The Centaur side saw a population decline of over ten thousand, with Centaur Women and Children accounting for more than half.
The two nations, as well as Adventurers gathered from other countries, suffered similarly heavy casualties, with statistics showing death tolls of two or three thousand.
Although the numbers seem disparate, most Adventurers who dared venture into the Dark Forest had one or two skills. The overwhelming majority comprised Level 3-4 Adventurers, countless Middle Level Professionals, and certainly several hundred, with quite a few High-level Professionals among them.
Such power, even within a Kingdom with vast and bloated aggregate strength, is a force to be reckoned with.
As increasingly more Adventurers died in the Dark Forest, including some reputed Middle Level Professionals and even High-level Professionals, coupled with Centaurs growing increasingly adept at defense and familiar with the Dark Forest environment, the difficulty in hunting a Centaur multiplied, and risks surged. These money-sniffing hyena-like Adventurers swiftly developed urges to retreat.
Despite the Kingdom and Duchy raising the bounties on Centaurs’ heads again, more Adventurers left the area. —— Additionally, the most crucial reason is the diminishing numbers of Demons and beasts in the southern Dark Forest; they were another party in the mutual devastation.
With decreasing numbers of Adventurers leading to the wasteland Desert Nobles’ territory reverting to normal development speed. The nobles lamented this, regretting the withdrawal of these hyena Adventurers, lamenting the reduction in their income.
Over the past few years, the Desert Nobles’ purse had swollen, their wealth truly abundant. The Adventurers risked their lives hunting Demons and Centaurs; ultimately, most profits fed the nobles’ pockets. Alcohol, Charming Street, equipment damages, Enchantment, treatments, etc., were all unavoidable for the Adventurers.
Simultaneously, a major incident occurred in the Ryan Empire’s central region—a group of sinister Red Robe Mages emerged from nowhere, launching attacks on over a dozen cities in southern Empire overnight, causing tens of thousands of casualties. Subsequently, they established a force around these cities, proclaiming themselves as the ’Red Robe Mage Association’.
Facing these sinister Red Robe Mages, the Empire was thunderously angry, promptly dispatching the Empire’s Guardian Knight Order and Royal Mage Corps to eliminate them.
And the result... the Empire suffered a major defeat!
