Chapter 49 : Strangeness
Chapter 49 : Strangeness
Strangeness
After using the teleportation scroll to return to the slums, they found the place completely deserted—emptied after the countless explosions that had rocked the imperial capital.
"The plan as a whole was a failure. My thoughts were seen through,"
Aili said remorsefully as she popped medicine into her mouth.
"Even though we weren't going to die, it still really hurt. To think we'd already succeeded, but in the end, some inexplicable person burst in and ruined it all,"
Zhixi said resentfully.
"Let's hurry to the Spirit Forest. Mother and the others have already been waiting for us a long time,"
Zhixi said, sounding a bit drowsy as she yawned.
"Why do you call Master 'Mother'?"
"My 'mother' is Luna, not Yinhua. Mmm, although now they are one and the same."
"That really is quite a complicated situation,"
Aili seemed a bit troubled.
"We'll talk after we get back. The city's already in chaos; no one can stop the two of us now,"
Zhixi said.
"Yes, there's nothing to figure out here anyway—let's just leave first."
After leaving the slums, Zhixi finally realized, looking at the city as if a natural disaster had swept through, just how crazed Aili, as a human, really was. She didn't know how much explosive Aili had set off, but looking at the devastation in the imperial capital, she knew it was by no means a small amount.
"If you were among the demons, calling you the Demon Lord wouldn't be strange at all,"
Zhixi suddenly remarked.
Aili shot her a sideways glance, replying, "Thanks for the compliment."
"Aren't you afraid of going to hell?"
"I've already seen the so-called hell you all speak of,"
"You really are an anti-human human. The Supreme God must absolutely hate you."
"I once knelt and begged the gods too, but they refused to pay any heed to me. So why should I care about their feelings?"
"You're really incredible—from my point of view."
"I can't say I like your praise, but I'll accept that one."
As they chatted, they arrived at the city gate. Just as they were about to leave, a familiar voice called out from behind.
"Why?"
The two of them stopped in their tracks upon hearing the voice. Aili was especially familiar with it, and she knew exactly who its owner was.
"What is it, miss Bug?"
Upon seeing Liqin in front of her, Aili put on her signature maid's smile.
"An acquaintance?"
Zhixi asked.
"Something like that,"
Aili replied, her smile undiminished.
"Why?"
Liqin's questioning continued.
"Why what?"
"Why do something like this?"
"Why set off this bloody storm?"
"How can you still smile?!"
"Aili!"
"Are these questions directed at me as the fourth princess of the royal family? Or as Master's friend?"
"What difference does it make?"
"There's a difference. If it's the former, then I have no need to answer, since we are enemies. But if it's the latter, then I won't lie to Master's friends."
"Tell me the reason."
"The reason? There isn't one."
"If I have to say something—"
"I like it."
"That's wonderful, then."
Liqin let out a sigh of relief.
"Hmm?"
Even Aili was confused by this unexpected answer.
"At first, I thought it was Little Yin's order and that's why you did all this. After hearing your reply, I feel much better."
"All of this was your own will?"
"That's right."
The smile on Aili's face disappeared.
"I see. Then there's nothing more to say."
"Kill her, shuangyan."
"I wouldn't recommend that, miss."
The speaker was a woman with long sky-blue hair, her face as cold as thousand-year-old ice, her tone devoid of emotion. She wore a white dress completely unsuitable for battle, her arms so pale they seemed bloodless, her legs slightly floating off the ground, and her piercing gaze fixed on Aili and the others. This was Liqin's double: Shuangyan.
"There's too great a gap in strength. If we really fought, there would be no suspense as to the outcome."
"I know, but I just can't allow someone so dangerous to remain by Little Yin's side."
Water had already gathered around Liqin.
"This is really..."
Even Zhixi was surprised to see such a massive amount of water element.
With a bang, Liqin was turned into a giant block of ice by Shuangyan.
"I reject this proposal. This shouldn't be your end. Dying here is meaningless."
After she spoke, shuangyan jumped over the city wall with Liqin.
"You're just letting them go? That girl will be a big problem if she grows up,"
Zhixi wondered.
"How could I harm Master's friends?"
"Just for that reason? Then why did you deliberately provoke her?"
"Every wound is a kind of growth."
"You seem very eager to force her to mature."
"One more layer of protection for Master is always good."
"Even if that person's killing intent towards you is through the roof?"
"So what?"
"Lunatic."
"Thanks for the compliment."
