Chapter 220 – It’s Fine Cause She’s Hot
Chapter 220 – It’s Fine Cause She’s Hot
The dojo at the House was barely big enough for a proper fight to take place. It was small, cramp and forced into this building through sheer willpower. But it was in good condition. The wooden floor still shone beautifully when illuminated by the small windows around. It was an important place for the girls living here, and it showed through the care that they put into maintaining it. In that sense, it was only natural that an important fight to these girls’ lives would happen there.
“Start!” Daisuke acted as the judge for our match, lowering his arm a few steps away from the members of the House.
His posture and expression oozed confidence. He and his partner Rook got here with a plan. Incriminate Katja for using magic she never used and take her into custody. A solid plan meant they had nothing to fear. Not unless someone found a way to interfere…
*click…*
They have no idea what’s coming…
I unpacked my Matching Weapon into its true form. Rook, across from me, raised a sheath with a small sword inside it. With his left hand on the handle, he pulled out the short sword in front of his face. The sheath then turns inside out and starts wrapping around his hand, then up his arm, wrapping all the way up to the shoulder like some kind of gauntlet. What a strange combination that is…
“Ready or not, here I come!”
This Rook guy gave me the impression of a musclehead as soon as I saw him, and his tactics were those of one. He lowered his stance and rushed forward while swinging the short sword.
He’s fast. But he’s only human. He unleashed more than ten attacks in quick succession, but I blocked them all. Even without using my skills, my stats alone gave me enough agility and strength to handle him easily.
“Weren’t you supposed to be an elite fighter or something? Is this the best you can do?”
We were fighting with our Matching Weapons, but this bout was not supposed to end with any deaths. This guy got here in a sleeveless black shirt, but he has since changed into a rubber suit with some armor that combined into something sturdier than my dress. If he had a katana, I’d be thinking I was fighting some kind of cyborg ninja.
“You want better than that? I can go much faster!”
His sword sped up, and the way he twisted it before each attack got trickier. Ahahahaha… Okay… Not bad… I actually have to focus on it now.
“You weren’t lying, but… what are you going to do if I counterattack?”
His sword hit mine, and I forced him into a clash. He might have more muscles, but even I can put some pressure when he’s using such a dinky blade. I pushed down with a slash that knocked his blade to the side and was aimed right at his chest.
*Donk!*
But my sword bounced back. At the last second, he managed to move his other hand, his gauntlet, between him and my blade.
“You feel for it.”
His big shoulder, covered in the dark metal of his Matching Weapon, blocked my view and came straight at me. A shoulder bash?!
My sword was still locked against his arm. I poured my strength into it, but he pushed me back with his whole weight. Damn… I should have expected some kind of trick from someone accompanying Daisuke…
“Can’t stop me, can you? No one can!”
He finally swung his arm with enough strength to knock me off balance. With the opening, he went for a thrust with his other weapon. He can fight… He can actually fight… But I’m much faster.
*Clink…*
I pulled my sword back in time and blocked his attack. “Get away from me!” I raised my leg and kicked him in the stomach. Finally, some time to breathe.
“Interesting…” He nodded with a huge smile. He slid back for less than a second before rushing back in like a wild animal. He leaped forward with a flashy punch. Heavy enough for the reverberations of blocking it to reach my hands. Then another stab.
He’s really going all out now, fighting with everything at his disposal.
“You’re a good fighter, but you should think about giving up soon.” He said. “It won’t be nice for you if Daisuke actually gets mad. And… You know, I might crush you accidentally if this keeps up.”
He alternated between heavy punches and annoying swift slashes and stabs. He has some momentum. I won’t deny that. I actually have to focus just to keep up. However…
“You can’t crush me… That’s never going to happen!”
I used Parrying Strike, and all of a sudden, my sword became a lot heavier. His punches, which were pushing back my sword, now stopped with slugish thuds. His momentum’s gone. Just like that.
“Now it’s my turn!”
The swings of my sword pushed him back. He immediately started losing ground. Any counter he tried got stopped before it even began. He was getting overwhelmed.
“Guhh… Haven’t you had enough, Iroha?” The one most affected by watching Rook’s advantage disappear was his partner. Daisuke was starting to get really annoyed. “Unlike you, he has another fight to get through today. He can’t waste all his energy on you. Let’s call it here.”
“And let you take Katja without a fight? You wish!”
I won’t let him retreat. Now that I’ve gotten this far, I have no problem exposing him in front of everyone. They were already suspicious of him, and now the others were all glaring at him.
“What a pest…” Daisuke said. “Alright then. Rook will concede this fight. Congratulations, Iroha. It’s your victory.”
Still trying to wiggle his way out, huh? I was keeping Rook in place with my sword locked against his gauntlet in a contest of strength. Even after he said he’d concede, I didn’t pull back.
“Is it, really?” You’re not getting your round against Katja, Daisuke. “But if I, the newest member, win against him, is there even a need for a second fight? Our training standards would be more than up to par then.”
Shinji stared him down after I said that, and his composure started cracking. He may have a lot of power over us, but the more things that go against his plan, the more ammunition Shinji will have to get him out of here. Daisuke’s excuses, lies, and justifications have to be coherent, or even Shinji, as precarious as his position may be, will have enough to drive him out of here.
“I’ve heard enough…” Daisuke said. “Rook, crush her! I don’t care what it takes! Finish her off, now!”
“Ahahhaha! You sure about that…?” With a swing of his arm, Rook pushed me back and regained some space. The musclehead must enjoy fighting as the intensity of his voice immediately spiked. “Well, it looks like I have no other choice! It was fun fighting you, though!”
He raised his arm in front of him with his gauntlet up front. Another charge? With a loud woosh, his gauntlet let out an amazing amount of steam, and he closed the gap between us in an instant.
“Woah!”
The weight of the impact was four or five times heavier than the last bash. Just what is that gauntlet? Sent me sliding even though I defended it…
“You’re still standing? But you can’t stop me! I told you that before!”
He barely gave me a second before picking up the pace and charging me even faster.
Parrying Strike.
I feel bad for crushing his ego so easily, but that little momentum can be easily stopped. I just need to actually try.
This time I swung my sword as he approached. His bash died right there and then. I didn’t even flinch.
“What the…?!”
Rook blinked as he staggered back. He could never imagine a girl with a thin sword could stop him so completely.
“Rook?! What are you doing?! Why did you stop? Dammit! I don’t care anymore! Just stand down once and for all, Iroha! Do you have any idea who you’re messing with? You should have just worked together with us. This won’t end well for you… What’s the point of that resistance? For Katja? I told you she doesn’t deserve it!”
Daisuke’s practically barking at this point. He’s not even hiding his true intentions anymore.
“You’re wrong! Katja’s worth it!” The fight wasn’t over, but I pointed my sword at him regardless. “I don’t care what you plan to do to me or whatever. Bring it on. If it’s for her sake, I’ll fight without hesitation!”
“Iroha…” Katja murmured from the sidelines.
The girls were all standing at this point. Daisuke had said so much, yet Shinji still hasn’t put an end to this farce. Was there really nothing he could do? Were his hands tied that badly?
They’re all worried now… Of course they are… They had no idea what this fight entailed, and now there’s nothing they can do. But don’t worry… I got this…
“Y- you insolent pest…” Daisuke was fuming. “Katja’s a murderer! A cold-blooded murderer, you know? A child murderer! She killed all her cousins to get to where she is! With her own hands!”
“So?”
Daisuke’s angry expression completely froze. Over the course of the next couple seconds, a look of sheer confusion spread across his face.
Heh… How naïve… Did he really think that’d be enough?
“I couldn’t care less if she’s a murderer, a child murderer, or what have you. She could be a serial killer who bathed in the blood of her victims while laughing, and I’d still be on her side. Or rather…”
“That only makes her hotter…”
His jaw dropped.
“That’s right. Your whole story only makes me love her more! I want her all to myself now! No way I can let you have her! Ahahahahahaha!”
“Y- you’re crazy! Rook! Rook! What are you waiting for?! Don’t just stare! Go get her!”
Did I say too much? All of a sudden, everyone was in a daze. It’s hard to follow… It’s like we’re all going mad. That’s what it takes to protect Katja… I’ll happily bring you down with me in this descent to madness!
Parrying Strike! Daisuke’s orders snapped Rook out of it, and he rushed in with his punch dagger combo.
“Stop messing around, Rook!”
“Arghh! I’m trying, but she just doesn’t flinch… It’s weird… She’s just…”
Parrying Strike!
“Too strong?” I asked. “Abnormally strong? Almost as if there’s something… supernatural… going on, hmm?”
Both Rook and Daisuke flinched when they heard the word supernatural.
“I told you, didn’t I? I was the one responsible for that. Still don’t believe me?”
This has gotten really out of hand, hasn’t it? Shinji can’t really salvage this anymore.
At least I can make sure they don’t take Katja…
“Let’s finish this once and for all.”
I extended my left hand towards Rook. A white mist surrounded my hand, and they both saw as it transformed into the head of a dragon right in front of their eyes. Aimed at Rook, the dragon opened its mouth, and a large fireball flew directly at him. He raised his gauntlet and tanked one explosion after the other.
“Gahhh!” His gauntlet couldn’t take any more after receiving so many direct blasts and broke. The last fireball hit him in the chest and sent him flying back. He passed out as soon as he hit the wall.
“How’s that? Still don’t believe me?”
Daisuke looked at the dragon in terror while on his butt. He frantically moved his legs to run away, but the wall pinned him in place.
That’s what you deserve after tormenting Katja for so long. The dragon’s head attached to my elbow wasn’t even real. It’s just an illusion created with the bond skill I got from Carol. Unlike her illusions, it can’t even be touched. Same for the fireballs. Just Impact Rounds shot from the gun hidden under the dragon’s head. The same Impact Rounds that probably got us in this mess in the first place…
“He- hey! Shinji! What are you doing?! Save me!” With no one to turn to, Daisuke now demanded the House protect him. No shame… “Can’t you see what’s going on? She’s a monster! Capture her, girls! That’s your duty!”
We may not have been together for a long time, but our bond is real. No matter how much he shouted, Narumi, Carol, Hecate, and especially Katja hesitated.
“A- are you disobeying me?! I’ll ruin this squad! You have my word! I’ll ruin all your lives! Do as I say! Now!”
I’m happy to see them hesitate, but I can’t take advantage of it.
I dispelled the dragon and dropped my sword to the ground. I always had a feeling it would turn out this way. No attempt at incriminating someone survives a culprit who can prove their own guilt. This was my foolproof plan. Now they need to do their part too. That’s the only way to save Katja.
I locked eyes with Katja and nodded. It’s okay… I won’t resist.
With perfect coordination, they instantly pushed me down from behind and got on top of me. They pinned down my body and limbs with their weight until I couldn’t wiggle. Not that I would, anyway.
“Why do we have to do this…?” Carol bitterly asked.
“What were you thinking, Iroha?” Hecate couldn’t believe it either.
“Ahaha… Ahahaha! Looks like not all of you are stupid.” Daisuke slowly got up with his legs still wobbling. “Just like that… Just keep her there.” He slowly approached while preparing some kind of syringe.
“I’m sorry, Iroha… I’m sorry…” A few tears fell on my back from the same direction as Katja’s voice.
“Don’t let her attack me! Just a little more…” Daisuke injected something into my neck and my vision went dark not long after that. I couldn’t hear anything anymore. Like my body was forcibly shut down.
I’m alive. Must have been some drug to knock me out… With Mind Transience, I could hold onto this consciousness for as long as I want, but there’s not much point to that.
Summer was a bright and cheerful season. We spent so many great moments together that I’ll likely never forget them for as long as I live. But Summer is also the season of fire. Even at the end, just as the leaves begin to turn brown, it’s not too late to get burned.
The normal and happy life we hoped would last forever disappeared in the blink of an eye. Just like my consciousness as I let myself go with the flow…
