Werna raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms.
"What happened to the Eiren who used to speak to me so informally? Now you're all proper and polite."
"As time passed, I grew up," Eiren replied.
"Still as cheeky as ever. That’s the Eiren I know," she said, with a touch of amusement. Her words brought fragments of their past rushing back. When Eiren had thought that meeting his father would untangle all the knots in his life, there were still many that remained. There wasn’t much time for small talk.
"Why did you want to see me?"
"Why don’t you two talk alone? I’ll step out," Marceau said, eagerly looking for an opportunity to leave the room. She quickly exited, and the sound of the door closing felt louder than usual.
