The Villain Reborn as Game's Final Boss

Chapter 260: Partner [3]

Chapter 260: Partner [3]

I didn’t think that duke Levaith would have been willing to make such a loss, after seeing similar attacks being carried out across the world.

Imagining the face the duke would be making now, after knowing that his efforts were wasted to some extent, would have been a funny thing to see.

Though I still had to commend the duke for not backing off his words, even after everything that had happened recently.

And well... there was that matter of offending the headmaster if the Levaiths had indeed backed out of an offer that they themselves had presented to the academy.

The conversation between Noah and Kevin continued, though there was nothing of importance in it, making me get up from my seat.

I could sense Alicia’s gaze following my movements as if she wanted to speak something, but chose to remain silent at the end.

If Zenur had come this early to inform us about the assignment, then it was clear that the classes wouldn’t be held for a while.

Seeing me move, the other students began to have similar thoughts, though they still chose to remain at their places and see whether another instructor would arrive.

Haa...

Walking out of the door, just as I took a right—

The bald instructor stood before me, his hands crossed as he leaned back against the wall.

I just stood there, maintaining a polite distance from him, without trying to initiate any sort of conversation.

"Are you still at Silver 3?"

The question made me a little wary, but I had enough trust in Alfred’s capabilities.

"Yes."

Keeping my answer short, I waited for a moment to see whether the instructor wanted to continue the conversation, but seeing no progress, chose to walk away.

"I just felt you were a lot stronger than before."

"..."

That made me pause.

"But it must have been me imagining things."

Knowing that any words uttered here might have unseen consequences... I remained silent.

Though Zenur didn’t seem to have any issue with my lack of response.

"You seemed to have grown closer to the headmaster."

Zenur spoke while beginning to move away from me.

"A word of advice from me."

"..."

"Stay away from him... it’s for your own good. You may take my advice or reject it, but—"

Zenur paused before turning slightly to look into my eyes.

"Do not ever forget it."

That was the end of the conversation.

I simply nodded my head, as Zenur had now walked quite a distance away from me.

Though Zenur hadn’t seen me nod my head, I felt that he knew about it nonetheless.

After all, his mana sense should have been far stronger than mine.

Thinking about his words, I felt a little strange.

When I had seen Zenur interacting with the headmaster for the first time... his behaviour was pretty subservient.

No... the closer word would be that Zenur was respectful towards his employer, so seeing him suddenly warn me out of nowhere felt a little odd.

Coupled with the fact that I shared no direct relationship with Zenur, for him to worry about it.

Was it a normal advice from a teacher to his student or was Zenur trying to hint at something else?

Didn’t the instructor fear that I might report him to the headmaster?

Or was it... a test?

The questions left me standing at the same spot, trying to figure out the answers to each one of them.

"Kael Frost?"

Though someone was quick enough to interrupt my thoughts.

Turning around, I could see a student in the uniform of the disciplinary committee walking towards me.

The moment the student took note of my face, he looked visibly relieved.

Hm?

Knowing which committee he belonged to, I could deduce the main player behind this exchange.

Maybe... she had finally taken the time to have a proper talk with me.

Haa...

Ashlyn Levaith... she was a girl of ambitions for sure.

"Are you free—"

"Let’s go."

"Huh? Y-Yes."

Though the senior was surprised by my words, he quickly composed himself before guiding me towards the student council.

On the way, I could feel the guy taking short glimpses of me from time to time, though he restrained himself to simply looking at me.

Seeing that he didn’t initiate any conversation, I chose to follow along.

The walk was short, as within some minutes we had arrived at the student council room.

Not caring to act reserved, I pushed open the door before entering inside.

Silence.

I seemed to have pushed the doors with quite some force, as the moment I entered the room, several heads turned in my direction.

Hm?

I could see some familiar faces, Victoria being one of them.

She seemed to be in the middle of some meeting, as all the members of the student council sat across a long table, listening to a guy reading out the reports.

From the looks of it, the students seated close to Victoria were the heads of different committees in the student council.

"Uh... The meeting was underway, so I had been asked to accompany you and wait outside for the time being."

The senior who had come to invite me whispered the words close to my ear, making me look into his eyes.

"Umm..."

If the meeting was underway, then what was the point of bringing me this early?

"You had begun to walk on your own, so... I couldn’t really stop you."

Haa...

"How long will this last?"

Not caring to pay attention to the senior, I shifted my focus to the girl who was sitting just beside Victoria.

Her blonde hair was a giveaway of her identity as a Levaith.

Ashlyn looked a little taken aback by my sudden question, though there wasn’t much of a change in her expression.

"Few minutes."

That was all she said before looking at Victoria, who had her eyes fixed on me.

Sigh.

Nodding my head at Ashlyn’s words, I ignored Victoria’s gaze before turning to walk out of the room—

"You may attend the meeting... student Kael."

Hm?

Shifting my position, I looked in the direction where Victoria sat, only to see her eyes on some papers that were placed before her.

Was she—

"Having a representative from the first year would surely make our meeting fruitful."

Victoria spoke without lifting her eyes from the papers.

Logically speaking, being the first ranker indeed made me the student representative from among the first years, but—

"I thought the students had to be selected by the council to participate in these things. Unfortunately, I hadn’t filled the form, so I must take my leave and not remain an uninvited guest."

It was only after I uttered the words that Victoria lifted her gaze to meet my eyes.

"The final selection is still ongoing, so for the time being there is no representation from the first years. I hope you can contribute something on their behalf."

Victoria had the same neutral face as always, her black eyes staring into mine.

"Be quick with the meeting."

I spoke while looking at Ashlyn, who was once again surprised by my statement.

Not caring to respond to Victoria’s words, I left the room, leaving behind a silence that might have felt heavy to many.

There was no way I would do something on the orders of a Frost.

No matter how polite her wording might have been... to my ears, it still felt like an order given out to a subordinate, and I surely wasn’t one of them.

Moving out of the room, I began to walk away towards an open space, as the senior followed me from behind.

This guy... he was too docile for someone who was part of the disciplinary committee.

"How good is she?"

I was talking about Ashlyn, and the senior seemed to have understood my question, as he scratched the back of his head.

We had now arrived at one of the open spaces in the hallway, which had a small area designated for relaxing.

"I... I am still at a lower position in the committee, so I haven’t had much direct contact with the committee head, and—"

"That’s okay."

I assured the senior, though he looked a little hurt, as even after staying in the council for quite some time, he hadn’t had a direct talk with the committee head... which according to me was pretty normal.

I just wanted to see a general opinion of a committee member, but gave up on it.

"She’s beautiful."

Hm?

The senior blushed a little as I looked at him with curiosity.

Did he have a crush on her?

Possibly.

After all, Ashlyn was a pretty likable girl according to the standards of the youngsters here.

"Had you ever proposed?"

As I had to wait for the meeting to get over, I might as well entertain myself a little.

"Uh.. N-NO! I mean, I... wouldn’t dare to."

I could sense the tip of the senior’s ears turning red as he denied the possibility.

"I can put in a good word for you."

"Huh?"

It was good to make things a little fun once in a while.
