Chapter 258: Partner [1]
Chapter 258: Partner [1]
Kael’s behaviour had begun to deteriorate when he had turned ten years of age.
After all, that was when Castor had begun to nag him about training and becoming the heir that he was supposed to be.
"It was after Diana had turned ten years of age."
Alicia didn’t explain further, though the message was clear.
Kevin’s outburst seemed to have given her some kind of unknown strength as she didn’t fumble on her statement.
I just nodded my head before leaning back in my place.
I had said the necessary things... and the rest would follow in the chain of events.
Though I had been a little too soft with Alicia, I knew what I was doing.
The Frosts were still one of the major powers, and logically, I was still the eldest son of the Frosts.
It wasn’t like Kevin had been given the position of the duke... at the moment, he was just an heir, and those positions don’t take long to change.
As for whether I needed Castor’s support to make it a reality, well... D.X. would do the rest of the work for me.
I felt like it was time to broaden my influence across the world by every means at my disposal.
Though House Frost had always been in my plans, after all there was a reason I hadn’t dropped my last name.
I was still Kael Frost, and that would stay the same.
Still... the way in which I was going to carry out my plans regarding the Frosts had changed quite a bit.
Even I couldn’t understand the sudden change in me.
It was as if an enlightenment was inscribed in my mind out of nowhere.
As if... someone wanted me to move in this way—
Hm?
Yeah... so after turning ten, Kael had distanced himself from the rest of the family, so it was obvious that he wouldn’t know anything about Allan.
Though by digging into the matter, Julien had discovered that Diana was very close to the kid.
For her, Allan was like a little brother... her own blood.
Maybe... the time was right to move forward with the completion of the condition that Alfred had put forth before joining D.X.
After Alicia’s statement, none of us spoke, as silence had enveloped the area.
"Where had you been?"
Hm?
Had this girl become comfortable with me just after some soft words that I had uttered?
This...
Maybe the family dynamics of the Frosts weren’t as complicated as I had thought them to be.
Or maybe...
Alicia was the only exception to it.
Because fighting Victoria, one thing had become clear to me.
That girl would cross all limits to ensure that I wouldn’t set foot in their house again.
Heh.
She could dream about it.
I was a far more practical person than people had credited me for.
"At my new home."
An emotional person was far easier to manipulate.
Though I didn’t think Alicia would be much useful in my plans... it was still better to have some backup.
I had learnt the hard way that this world had many hidden variables that could pop up from anywhere and ruin everything for me, so creating a backup out of every person that I had previously considered worthless had now become an integral part of my actions going forward.
Still... sitting at this place wasn’t what I had aimed for from the start, but it turned out to be a better decision.
"I s-see."
The little girl fumbled with her words again.
The silence ensued between us, but was soon interrupted as the instructor arrived in the class.
Hm?
It was Zenur... the bald instructor.
"Looks like everyone is here?"
Where would the students even go?
"And... some new faces are visible too?"
Zenur uttered the words while looking in my direction.
Though there was no surprise on his face, which was to be expected—as the moment I had stepped foot in Namda, almost the entirety of the academy had received the news.
As for how?
Well... some people were trying hard to get my attention, and I wasn’t one to ignore such desperate tools.
"A small assignment had been arranged for you, and I am here to discuss the details about the same."
Zenur’s words were met with collective disappointment from the students.
After all, no matter how prestigious the academy and its students were, at the end of the day, they were still kids.
And no kid enjoyed doing an assignment out of their own will.
Though there were some exceptions to it.
I thought while looking at a particular red-haired girl.
She seemed to have become quite docile compared to her original self.
The change wasn’t visible on the outside, but I could sense it just by looking at her eyes.
Amelia’s love for academics seemed to have blended with some sort of new interest in other fields.
She didn’t look as excited as before, or maybe... it was just me imagining things.
"Weapons... they are the core part of combat."
Not paying any attention to the reactions from the students, Zenur began his explanation.
"My statement might have resonated with many of you, as strong weapons make a person even stronger, but—"
Just as the students were about to nod their heads in acceptance of Zenur’s words, the guy gave a dramatic pause, raising the thumb and index finger of his right hand before pressing them together in a gesture of something being crushed between them.
"All that logic is the most pathetic thing I had ever heard in my entire life."
Silence.
Heh.
This guy sure was a lot more dramatic than everyone credited him for.
"Cultivators should never be known for the weapons they use, but... the weapons should be known for the cultivators that had used them."
"..."
"..."
"..."
Almost every face had turned blank at Zenur’s statement.
No.
The closer wording would be... everyone had an instant enlightenment in the field of combat.
Sigh.
